You will enjoy 825 sq feet of coziness on the main floor of our newly remodeled 1934 home. In the living room you will find the original wood ceiling & walls of stained ship-lap which gives this room a warm and cozy feeling. During the renovation an old fireplace was discovered inside the walls, but is now exposed and separates the living room from the kitchen. Sit in the living room and enjoy a movie or read a good book by the fire! In the newly remodeled kitchen and dining room you will find black leather granite countertops along with white subway tile creating a fresh clean modern feel. All new appliances give this old farmhouse the convenience of modern living. Dishes, silverware, cookware, stove, microwave, coffee maker are all available for your use and to help make your stay more enjoyable if you choose to just stay in, make your own meals and relax. The bathroom features a full size walk in shower, heated floors, and a washer & dryer available for your use. The bedroom, our favorite room in the house, shows the true rustic charm of this old house. Underneath layers of sheetrock and paint we found the original ship-lap. Although very rustic with a little hard work we reconfigured, cleaned, white washed and stained the wood to truly bring out its beauty. An “open closet” concept provides plenty of room for your personal belongings. The queen bed is very comfortable and is dressed with fresh linens, a 2” thick mattress topper and plenty of comfy pillows. Just off the dining room, french doors open to a private deck & hot tub for a quiet relaxing evening. Or, there's nothing like sitting on the wrap-around porch while sipping on a sweet iced tea! Upon arrival we'll provide snacks for your enjoyment. Also, enjoy a free breakfast at Briar Patch Cafe the next morning after your check-in. We want to open our home to you and hope you will enjoy our cozy "Modern Farmhouse” in historic downtown Galax as much as we do.

  • Our stay couldn’t have been more spectacular! We wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy the cabin. It is exactly as described inside and outside, the bubbling brook with koi pond was so beautiful. We sat on the porch and watched the hummingbirds feed. The cabin was extremely clean with special touches throughout, milk and juice in the fridge, eggs, butter, oatmeal and the list goes on. Michelle was quick to respond and willing to help with anything we needed during our stay. Comfortable beds in both bedrooms. Quiet and serene location.

    Erica2020-05-03T00:00:00Z
  • This place is just wonderful! Very quiet and peaceful not far from the Blue Ridge Parkway. It is beautifully decorated, all the comforts of home with a price well below what you'd expect to pay. The front porch is awesome!

  • Beautiful cozy cabin, highly recommend!

  • Charming, cozy cabin in the middle of the country. Highly recommend staying a night or two here!

    Robert2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • Michelle’s cabin will exceed your expectations! We could only stay for one night, but wished it had been longer. Prior to our arrival, Michelle gave clear directions to the cabin (gps was accurate too, but her directions helped to confirm location). The living area was very cozy with a kitchen having everything you need (starter cooking supplies, coffee, as well as a few extra snacks and breakfast foods which was very appreciated). Cell service was limited, I had no service while my friend did have cell service (different provider). WIFI worked great though! Ultimately, we had a great stay and Michelle was a very welcoming host! I’d love to return!

Hiking, biking, canoeing, horseback riding, etc. I have three available bedrooms with private baths. Two of the bedrooms have queen beds and the basement room has a single twin sized bed for one person only. You should be able to see all three of my offerings on a normal browser on your computer. I have been told by Airbnb that they all might not show up on an app. The names of all three listings are: See Shirley's Homestead, West Bedroom/ Prvt Bath, the other two sites are named: Shirley's Homestead Walk-Out Basement Bed/Bath and Shirley's Homestead, East Bedroom/ Private Bath so you can search for any of those.
This is a rural setting and a very quiet neighborhood. The scenery is beautiful and very restful.

We love it here :) Highly recommend!

  • This place was great... so many thoughtful touches and it was so nice to sit on the porch and listen to the birds at night/morning!

    Gerald2020-03-29T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was beautiful, relaxing and accommodating. It was beyond our expectations. The drive up the mountain to the town coming off rt 77 north was scary and exciting all at the same time. Luckily Kathy told us a better way to leave town. We definitely look forward to staying there again.

    Ann2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • You will be very pleasantly surprised at this spotless, scenic, beautifully decorated and comfortable place. Has all you need and nothing you don't need. Very well worth it in every way. The only problem we encountered was that our OnStar navigation system wouldn't work when we were leaving, but we were able to get directions on our phone. Would revisit in a heartbeat!

    Jeanne2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • I always read reviews before booking. So I knew to expect nice. It really was exceptional. Kathy, has all the touches down to the music playing when you arrive. We were originally just looking for a place to rest on way home from Florida to Ohio, so the location was ideal and private for us and the dogs. This place however, was like booking a 5 star hotel. The bed was the most comfortable of stays. We didn't have to rush out in the morning which was exactly what we needed. I'm sure we will look for it again. True value!

    Dennis &Amp; Joanna2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • This was a perfect home away from home while we visited family for the week. The home was especially clean, beautiful, and welcoming. After a long drive from Nevada, this home provided such a peaceful place to rest! The bed was extra comfortable and the host was very prompt and kind to answer any communication that we we had! We highly recommend this home and plan to schedule again in the future!

    Engle2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Shepherd's Rest has everything you need for a getaway. The space was very clean and tidy, and Kathy was very responsive to our last minute booking. The full kitchen was well equipped and we had an easy time cooking both dinner and breakfast (the works!). The 12 PM standard check out time felt like a real bonus to us... there are not many places that let you stay that long on departure day, and we really appreciated the ability to have a slow morning before hitting the road. Close access to the Blue Ridge Parkway was also great! We hope to be back for a longer stay!

    Lindsay2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • Shepherd's Rest is well appointed, super comfy, and sparkling clean. We've stayed at several other cabins and cottages in Galax and none compare to Shepherd's Rest. Craig and Kathy are great hosts and have thought of everything.

Quiet private location in the woods with private path to the river
Like a time machine to the 1930's. All wood house and furniture. Old style plumbing. New electric. Gas stove for cooking Wood stove for heat (Electric and gas backup ) The cabin was built in 1920. Almost a century old. It was renovated in 1995 after Purchased by current owner. Please : No smoking inside the cabin. The driveway is very passable but some with low vehicle clearance have expressed I should give a heads up. If you’re not sure, you can walk down the driveway first. The river trail is over 50 miles long and no motorized traffic is allowed Very private. Located on 75 acres of private property adjoining the New River Trail Dogs allowed
No neighbors to bother you. Every Thursday night there is a free bluegrass performance at the local recreation center in Fries. Local talent. 7 to 9 pm
  • A perfect place to get away. It's nice and secluded but still only a 5min drive to the market for any essentials. Easy self check in process. We handled the driveway no problem with a Ford Focus. Just take it slowly and you'll be fine. Love the walk along the stream/river. Love all the little touches and attention to detail James went through to decorate the space, too. Definitely a recommend...

    Aaron2020-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a gem. Hands down my favorite place I’ve ever stayed.

    Bridget2020-04-20T00:00:00Z
  • James was super nice and helpful. His cabin is beautiful and with lots of little touches that make the cabin feel warm and cozy. The trail right next to the cabin was also wonderful

  • Now one of my favorite places

    Hannah2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • We decided to cap off a backpacking trip in Grayson Highlands by extending our trip at this cabin. If you are looking for quiet and secluded time in nature, this cabin certainly delivers. I enjoyed sitting on the porch and reading, building fires in the wood stove, and hiking down to and along The New River. The cabin was well decorated, and the kitchen had enough equipment that we were able to cook all the food we needed. Unfortunately, the shower was not working while we were there, but there was plenty of hot water for a more indulgent bath. James was very responsive to our messages and made sure that we were well accommodated. He even shared some of his chickens' eggs with us, which we enjoyed for breakfast. We would happily return again in the future if we find ourselves in the area again.

    Michael2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Couldn’t have loved this place more, I thoroughly enjoyed every minute I was there.

    Hannah2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect place to rest and rewind. The hike to the river is awesome and I left feeling relaxed and uplifted. The property is gorgeous and the cabin has everything you need. It was a little cold the first week of March, but the host had a ton of firewood and I kept the wood burning stove going all week. I will definitely return next time I need an escape.

    Kelli2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed a wintry girls weekend in this charming little cabin and we made memories we’ll cherish forever. Note that if you’re visiting in the winter it is quite cold - space heaters & the wood burning stove helped but it was still quite chilly. Also - we did feel a bit vulnerable in the evening. It’s a very remote location, and there’s not much in terms of security. But all in all it was the location of our dreams!

Enjoy a relaxing vacation in our secluded mountaintop cabin getaway. Tucked away in the Blue Ridge Mountains bordering Jefferson National Forest, this cabin is a cozy retreat with dynamite panoramic views. Spend your time sitting on the porch swing overlooking the Appalachian Mountain countryside. Glimpse the four highest peaks in Virginia, watch the hawks and eagles soar at eye level, and enjoy nature at its best.
Inside the cabin, you will find: -A small but fully outfitted kitchen with refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave, toaster, coffeemaker, dishes, utensils, pots and pans. -Living room with flat screen TV connected to Dish Network satellite with all the network stations as well as Showtime, Cinemax, Starz, and many more. -Unfortunately, we DO NOT provide internet at this time. However cell phone reception and data usage is confirmed to work well for U.S. Cellular and Verizon plans. (We do not have any knowledge of how well other carriers will work at this time.) -One full bathroom with shower and washer/dryer located on the ground floor adjacent to the kitchen. -Heating via baseboard heat. -Upstairs there are two small bedroom spaces; one bedroom with queen bed and the other bedroom with two twin beds. There are NO DOORS separating the bedrooms from each other or the staircase. -We will provide a starter amount of toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, dish soap, hand soap, and shampoo, however for longer stays you may need to purchase additional supplies. Outside the cabin, you will find: -Front porch with swing and two rocking chairs. -Picnic shelter with picnic table and gas barbecue grill. -Forested walking path along the ridge behind the cabin. -Scenic views of the countryside. You may spot some of the local wildlife including white tailed deer, wild turkey, raccoons, possums, hawks, and eagles. Although not as commonly seen, black bears, coyote, foxes, and snakes also live in the area. Also of note: -The drive to the property is somewhat of an adventure in of itself. You will be driving through curvy rural farmland roads with livestock including cows, sheep, horses, goats, and chickens in various fields. Please be cautious while driving; it is very common for livestock and/or wildlife to be in the road! You will be on paved road for the majority of the trip, but toward the end, this changes to a one lane gravel road as you climb up the mountain. The driveway to the cabin is steep, so we recommend front wheel or 4-wheel drive vehicles. -During winter months, reservations may be subject to cancellation due to safety concerns in the event of snow or ice on the road. -There are 4 steps up to the front porch, and there are 13 somewhat narrow steps inside up to the second floor bedrooms. -There is a cable gate (essentially a cable across the driveway) with combination padlock at the driveway entrance and keypad self check-in on the front door. (We will provide the codes and detailed driving directions prior to your stay. We strongly recommend you print this information prior to driving since there may be areas of spotty cell service.)
The town of Fries (pronounced "freeze") is about 15-20 minutes away from the cabin, along with two nearby access points for the New River Trail. The New River Trail State Park is a linear park running 57 miles including 39 miles that parallels the scenic and historic New River along what had previously been a railroad track. The trail is relatively flat and includes trestle bridges, tunnels, small waterfalls, and other beautiful woodland scenery enjoyable to hikers, bikers, and horseback riders of all ages. The nearest stores for groceries and supplies would be the Star Market (~15 minutes) and Dollar General Store (~20 minutes) in Fries, VA. There are larger grocery stores and a Super Wal-Mart located in Galax, VA (~35 minutes). We would recommend picking up supplies on your way to the cabin to save time. About 20 minutes away, across from one of the more scenic New River Trail access points, you will find "New River Outdoor Adventures." This is a local company that provides shuttle services and rentals for canoes, kayaks, tubes, biking, fishing, etc. They also sell live bait and tackle for all your fishing needs, as well as fishing and hunting licenses (either short or long term). If you call (276)237-TUBE(8823) they will customize whatever adventure you might want for your group. The city of Galax is about a 30 minute drive. Within Galax, you will find many restaurants, fast food options, antique stores, a quaint walkable downtown area, a small movie theater, bowling alley, and of course Super Wal-Mart, among other amenities. Galax also happens to be home to the largest and oldest running Old Time Bluegrass Fiddler’s Convention, which takes place annually in August since 1935. But don't worry, the entire Appalachian region is known for Bluegrass and traditional "old-timey" music which can be enjoyed year-round. The Rex Theater in Galax, VA hosts weekly live music and other special events. The Fries historic theater in Fries, VA also hosts weekly Thursday night Bluegrass "jam sessions" and other special events. The wonderful Blue Ridge Music Center can be found on the Blue Ridge Parkway at Milepost 213. This facility includes a large outdoor amphitheater with summer concert series, an award winning music museum of old-time music, and daily display of free music from local musicians. Access to the Blue Ridge Parkway is only 22 miles away, or about a 35 minute drive. The Blue Ridge Parkway runs 469 miles through Virginia and North Carolina and is one of the most visited properties of the National Park System. The Parkway offers something for everyone including scenic drives, mountain views, biking/hiking/equestrian trails, waterfalls and swimming holes, historic farmsteads and museums, cultural exhibits, and much more. Grayson Highlands State Park is a longer trek, about 45 miles (or ~70 minutes) drive away from the cabin. This park serves as gateway to the state’s highest peak, Mount Rogers, as well as the Appalachian Trail and the Grayson Highlands. The park offers hiking trails, biking trails, horse riding trails, bouldering, fishing, boating, and the chance to encounter wild ponies.
  • One of the best places I’ve ever stayed at. The view is fantastic, the house is fully stocked with anything you could possibly need. You can’t get more away from society than this place. You can smell the fresh air fill your lungs on the drive up to the cabin. Overall highly recommended staying at Loren’s for all types of occasions.

    Kimberly2020-04-24T00:00:00Z
  • This place was so breathtaking, the view was more amazing than I could have ever imagined. We had everything we could have needed in the space. This was the perfect place to get away and recharge. We hope to be back.

  • Lorens hospitality was outstanding providing all information from the start from alternate routes to get there to operating the shower, tv, etc.. I have to say this is one of my best Air B&B experiences me and my wife have experienced. Perfect romantic getaway with a once in a life time view. They provided enough towels, toilet paper, laundry detergent, and plenty of dishes for the two nights we were there! The space provided had a cabin feel with a spacious bathroom. Ceiling fan is one awesome touch. Bed is extremely comfortable. Very Clean place. Very secluded. The porch swing and picnic table is a nice touch to view the gorgeous sunset. Clear sky’s at night make the stars very visible. Will 100% be back!

  • If you want a place to decompress in Southwest Virginia this is an excellent place to do it. The views are excellent, the cabin was cozy, and the fresh air is hard to beat. Also if you're into geology at all there are some neat rock outcrops right in the front yard. Check this place out.

You have traveled, you have explored. You have stayed in many places! Now its time to stay in one of the coolest locations you never knew existed. Stay in the top of a Silo! The Silo was finished in Nov 2018. We’ve been renovating this old 1950’s dairy barn/silo since 2013. The Silo has 4 floors and the top 2 are yours! There is a living room on the third floor (and bathroom) and bedroom at the very top with windows all around and 360 degree view ! Also your own private deck off the bedroom.
We bought and have been renovating an old dairy barn since 2013. We had a goal to renovate the attached silo into a beautiful place people could come and enjoy. The silo itself is 4 stories. The top two floors are your living spaces. A living room and private bathroom with a bedroom on top. The rooms are circular, the original shape of the silo. The bedroom has windows that go all the way around the top for a stunning 360 degree view of the mountains and valley. It is an experience you will never forget! We have also created a little game for our Silo guests! Upon arrival we will give you clues to a secret compartment in the Silo. My husband is a master cabinet maker and creates the most unique secret compartments. When you discover it , there is a special gift for you to take home!! Our son documented the renovations of the Silo so if you are interested you can see the 10 videos of this amazing renovation on utube. (search for Dream Rock Silo) Breakfast is not included, however, there is a screened- in full kitchen for you to use anytime. The refrigerator will be stocked with fresh eggs, bacon, butter, oatmeal, grits and coffee/cream. HOWEVER, the outdoor kitchen is closed Nov-April due to weather conditions but there are restaurants in town. NOTE: This is a tall Silo. There are 15 steps to the entrance ( living area) and 12 more interior steps to the bedroom. ***We also have 2 other Suites available: Creekside Bungalow, sleeps 4 Rustic Rooster Room, sleeps 6
***Many things to do in Independence, VA! -Fire pit for night relaxation and s'mores. -Hiking in Grayson County, Grayson -Highlands Park, Creekside Trail in Galax, VA -Biking the Creeper Trail in Damascus, VA down a 17 mile old retired train railway......AWESOME! -New River Kayaking -Horseback Riding -Blue Ridge Parkway -Blue Ridge Music Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway. -Changing of the leaves in Autumn -Crooked Road Music Trail -Grayson Highlands State Park -Galax Home of the Old Time Fiddlers Convention (Second week in August) -Smoke on the Mountain Festival in July. • We had such a lovely time... the silo was a perfect getaway for the weekend we were meant to be hitched! Karen and Bill and their place are inspirational. Everything was so amazing, cleverly built, thoughtfully designed and we really appreciated their VERY generous hospitality in driving us to the boat landings to kayak the New River! We are already making plans to go back!

    Lauren2020-05-06T00:00:00Z
  • The silo is unlike any place I’ve ever stayed. The views from the top bedroom and deck are incredible, even on rainy/foggy days. The craftsmanship that went into creating the space is really amazing! I loved hearing about the history and seeing the progression photos. It’s truly a haven! The sound of the creek was an added bonus. The outdoor kitchen has all the best parts of camping without any of the inconveniences. There isn’t a bad view up there. Karen is incredibly kind and thoughtful. She makes the whole experience peaceful and relaxing. It’s not too far from Mt. Rogers either! Definitely make the trip to the silo if you get the chance!

    Sarah2020-04-25T00:00:00Z
  • A *Perfect and unique place to enjoy the nature and serenity. Do recommend and can't wait to go back in that terrestrial paradise :) waking up surrounded of windows, view of the valley, and the enchanting creek sounds, the only unwanted part is leaving. ***Thanks dear Karen

  • This place is perfect! For those who are thinking about going just do it. It will be a stay you never forget. Karen and her husband are beyond helpful and will go over the top to make sure your stay is perfect!

  • Wonderful place for a weekend away. Karen and her family are fantastic hosts, we were warmly welcomed and felt at home during our stay. Thoughtful touches throughout, access to amenities, fire pit and anything else one might need. Do recommend and hope to return!

    Jason2020-03-29T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second time staying at the silo and both experiences were outstanding. There's so many ways you can enjoy your experience at the Silo. From quiet country serenity to soaking in the natural beauty hiking in nearby Grayson Highlands State Park, we had a wonderful time. When you step into the Silo you can sense the love and meticulous craftsmanship that went into building and decorating it. Karen is a wonderful host with so much energy and a great sense of creativity and fun that is reflected both inside and outside. We can't wait to come back again, and we're sure you will feel the same way too after your visit.

    Dommac2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Karen and Bill are architectural geniuses! This place is amazing! Many thoughtful touches! Amazing 360 degree view of the moon! Will definitely visit again!

  • You may be reading all the reviews and thinking to yourself is it really THAT magical and lovely? And the answer is unequivocally, without a doubt 10000% yes! The property is beautiful and serene, the silo is stylish and unique and fun, and Karen and her family are incredibly welcoming and lovely! I can’t recommend this place enough. It was the perfect relaxing getaway. The story of how the place came to be is amazing and makes you appreciate it that much more. If you are looking for one-of-a-kind accommodations where you can unwind, do yourself a favor and book here. You’ll also have access to great hiking about 45 minutes away in Grayson Highlands State Park! We are already planning our return trip.

Relax on the New River in the renovated hayloft of a horse barn -- perfect for a peaceful country getaway. Located at the end of a winding rural road, this apartment is on a working cattle farm with 3/4 mile frontage along the New River. Hike, fish, canoe, or just watch the hawks, deer, geese, and turkey.
As mentioned, our "River View Getaway" apartment is actually a renovated hayloft above an old horse barn. Although there are no horses currently in residence, the property is located on a 94 acre working cattle farm. (No animals will be stored in the barn during your stay, but you may see cattle in the fenced off paddocks.) Enjoy sitting on the rocking chair porch overlooking the fields and New River. You may spot some of the local wildlife including white tailed deer, canadian geese, or wild turkey. Although not commonly seen, black bears, coyote, and foxes may also live in the area. Inside the barn loft apartment, you will find all the comforts of home including an open living area with leather sofa (which pulls out to queen sized bed), dining area, and kitchen. The full sized bathroom is off the hallway. The rear of the apartment contains a large bedroom with skylight and King sized bed. All linens are of course laundered between each stay including the Duvet covers. (So no dirty bedspreads or blankets!) We will provide toilet paper, papertowels, trash bags, dishsoap, and travel-sized bathroom toiletries, however for long stays you will be responsible for additional supplies. There are large flat screen televisions in both the living room and bedroom. We provide Dish Network satellite TV with all the network stations as well as HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, Starz, and many more. High speed gaming/streaming internet is unfortunately NOT available in this area. However we provide a Verizon Hotspot for internet access so you can check your email and research information. It should be noted that this property is located at the end of a long winding country road, which becomes a one lane gravel road near the end. There are 19 steps up to the front door. A number code on the front door allows for self check-in.
The town of Fries (pronounced "freeze") is about 10 minutes away, along with two nearby access points for the New River Trail. About 12 minutes away, across from one of the more scenic New River Trail access points, you will find "New River Outdoor Adventures." This is a local company that provides shuttle services and rentals for canoes, kayaks, tubes, biking, fishing, etc. They also sell live bait and tackle for all your fishing needs, as well as fishing and hunting licenses (either short or long term). If you call (276)237-TUBE(8823) they will customize whatever adventure you might want for your group, including pick up at the farm, (which is known locally as the Delp's Beach farm.) The city of Galax is about a 15-20 minute drive. Within Galax, you can find many restaurants, antique stores, a quaint walkable downtown area, a small movie theater, and of course Super Wal-Mart, among other amenities. The Rex Theater in Galax hosts weekly live music and other special events. The Fries theater in Fries also hosts live music events. The wonderful Blue Ridge Music Center can be found on the Blue Ridge Parkway at Milepost 213. This facility includes a large outdoor amphitheater with summer concert series, an award winning music museum of old-time music, and DAILY display of free music from local musicians. Access to the Blue Ridge Parkway is only 14 miles away, or about a 25 minute drive.
  • We loved this place. View is amazing. River was fun to play in with our two year old daughter. The residence was clean and had everything we needed. Joan was the best host we have dealt with through out any of our past rentals. She is awesome and easy to reach if needed. We travel a lot to the mountains and this will definitely be a spot we visit again.

    Jon2020-05-04T00:00:00Z
  • The farmhouse was clean, comfortable, and cozy with great amenities and a wonderful view, and Joan was so hospitable and easy to work with! Would recommend to anyone looking for a quiet getaway!

    Kathryn2020-04-26T00:00:00Z
  • This was a great stay for us. Very comfortable lodging and the estate had breath-taking views. Joan is an attentive host who was very easy to communicate with.

    Noah2020-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • If you are interested in privacy, peace, and serenity in an unbelievably gorgeous setting - then this is the place for you. Multiple views of the Virginia mountains from the rocking chairs on the deck, the hills a variety of different shades of green grass, hiking trails to explore, a wide river in the distance, gentle cows grazing, birds singing morning and evening, starry skies...HEAVEN! And the space above the barn has everything you need - a pretty bed with great sheets, bathtub big enough for two, spacious living and dining areas, kitchen equipped with what you need. I mean it - if you want to get away from humanity- this is the place. Five stars for sure!

    Kate2020-04-11T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at the barn was great. It was nicer than we expected. Very private. We didn’t see one person while we were there, which we loved😊 We were giving detailed directions and found it very easily in the dark which is good given its remote location. Would definitely go again!

    Steven2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Very relaxing, just what we needed.

    Doug2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Our recent stay at Joan's River View Getaway was our first trip using Airbnb. Joan is a fantastic host and made our first stay a truly effortless experience. Her place is amazing and she made the whole process a delight. Check-in/out was super easy. Joan provided us with very clear and concise driving directions, as well as great directions for entering/exiting the property. This little gem of a place is perfect if you're looking for a quiet, relaxing, peaceful, opportunity to re-charge your batteries. Joan's place is very clean, neat, and tidy. The property is nicely secluded, yet you're only minutes from town should you need supplies, or if you're looking for activities. My husband and I enjoyed watching the little bit of snow that fell, the birds roosting in the tree near the porch, and the beautiful stars on the clear nights. The New River is just a very small walk away for the house so it would be great for those warmer months of the year! All-in-all we were extremely pleased with River View Getaway and we hope to stay again in the future.

    Angela2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Joan was quick to respond to our reservation and a needed change of date. The place was perfect for a child-free getaway, though kids might enjoy all the space to play outdoors. Loved walking along the river and in the field. Bed and pillows were super-comfortable. A fun selection of family games was provided as well. We'd love to return!

  • If you want a quiet, beautiful, clean and comfortable place to stay this is it! The countryside in this area is so pretty. We enjoyed every minute of our time here and wished we could have stayed longer.

  • The Black Dog River Retreat was everything I was hoping for and more! My wife and I took our 4 grown kids (17, 18, 18, 22) on a wonderful weekend getaway. The house is great, we cooked and hung out by the campfire and just enjoyed the amazing setting right next to the river. The New River State Park was the reason we choose the house, as we wanted to ride our bikes along the river. It was conveniently located 20 minutes from the house (Gambetta Access) and it did not disappoint. My sons and I fished off the bank every morning while sipping some coffee, and we simply dropped our kayaks in and paddled upstream, then floated back. Overall...it was a great house with an amazing backdrop. Could not have asked for anything more.

    Don2020-04-26T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely enjoyed our family trip to the Black Dog River Retreat. Plenty of space inside and out. The cabin has all the kitchen amenities you will need, very comfy, and plenty or places for the whole family to lounge. Beautiful views of the New River, especially the sunrise. Perfect getaway. We plan to book again soon!

    Bobby2020-04-23T00:00:00Z
  • The perfect getaway for the family! The kids loved the beach near the river. The fireplace was a great way to start the morning. Having firewood provided was so very convenient. This place was so much better than we expected, and our expectations were high.

  • This place is so incredible! It's secluded and the perfect place to get away from all the chaos going on in the world today. The home is beautiful inside and the view of the New River is simply amazing. We'll be back for sure!

  • Relaxation at its finest. The place is exactly as advertised, right on the river. Perfect for kayaking, and also for sitting, having a coffee or wine and watching the river go by. The house is set up perfectly and John has taken extra steps to make sure his guests are taken care of.

    Sean2020-03-30T00:00:00Z
  • The House was Great property was very private with deer coming from the woods to drink out of the river. Even more beautiful in person. Only 1 bathroom and 1 large bedroom upstairs with 2 beds and a bunk bed. Since it was only my husband it was great. Would definitely recommend to others, and stay again ourselves.

  • This place is amazing! Mark and Susan could not have been better hosts! We pulled up to the perfect little home and were welcomed with a beautiful Christmas tree shining through the window. Check in was a breeze. We walked in to the most peaceful and homey environment. The Christmas tree was all lit up, it smelled so nice inside and the fireplace scene was going on the TV along with Christmas music. It actually brought me to tears. Our welcome could not have been any better. What thoughtful touches! Communication was great, they even offered local info to make our trip so much better! The people of Galax were so kind and we had such a great time! We all loved the ping pong table and the board games. The kids ran around outside and played football. Plenty of room. Having a washer and dryer was super helpful too! We could not have been happier with our stay and would recommend this home to anyone!!!

  • This house is on a beautiful property! Nancy was a wonderful host, she gave us a tour of the house and even baked cinnamon buns!

    Krystal2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • This location is located in a very private and beautiful setting, extremely peaceful. The host met me outside, at a 3am arrival, and went as far to have muffins made and ready for the morning hours. The pictures on Airnb are beautiful but their is much more offered than what is displayed. The bedroom has a very "homey" feel and is very comfortable. My dog loved running safely outside and snuggling up on the recliner inside. I highly recommend this location. Great value at a great price!

  • amazing stay!! beautiful apartment and views. very cozy and warm - perfect for a weekend getaway!

    Olivia2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Nancy and her place were fabulous! We had low expectations after reading some of the reviews but Nancy has really put forth effort and made our stay beyond what we expected. Great big space both up and downstairs. Beatufil furniture and great sleeping arrangements. Fully stocked kitchen should you decide to stay in and cook! Quaint little town that was a delight to explore. Nancys property is great for a countryside retreat or a day of mountain adventure! Stone mountain was 30 min away but a great days axfivity. One parkway entrance was about 15 min away but close to the VA border for even more fun.

    Benjamin2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Nancy's place was great! She anticipated our family needs before we even arrived. We are incredibly thankful for that. The property is beautiful and was exactly what we needed.

    Sarah2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Nice enough apartment... plenty of room. My daughters are skittish when it comes to bugs so a couple cobwebs bothered them more than me. Comfortable bed and overall a good value

Craftsman build. Custom interior. Unique experience lying in bed looking at the Falls. It feels like you are anywhere in the world but Independence Va.
Beautiful rolling hills with pasture and cows surround you as you drive up.
  • We’ve stayed in many Airbnb’s in cool places- but, this cabin in the woods, close to home, has been the hidden gem we wish we knew about sooner! Everything is beyond what you’d expect. Caroline has thought of everything. you’ll leave here feeling peaceful, recharged, and reconnected with anyone you go with.

    Rob And Chelsea2020-04-05T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing space and beautiful surroundings. Truly a magical place, Caroline is indeed a superhost and her place was unbelievably catering.

    Brendan2020-03-23T00:00:00Z
  • Second stay at the falls house. A spa-like retreat that must be experienced. Cozy, amazing accommodations. Caroline is a gracious host & very easy to communicate with!

    Christina2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • This place is truly paradise! The waterfall in the back is absolutely stunning & an amazing sight to look at. We literally sat in the chair looking out at the waterfall for hours and the sound of it is so relaxing! Definitely secluded, no cell service & no tv but it was absolutely perfect for us. Best weekend we have ever had and the most relaxing!! We will most definitely go back and suggest everyone to check this place out!

    Jessica2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • This space is pure magic. The quiet, the beauty of the waterfall, the deer that visit the yard are so special. Caroline has decorated the home in such a stylish but comfortable way. This is a great place for a romantic get away or even a solo trip for someone wanting peaceful solitude. We can't say enough good things about it. There are restaurants near by but we cooked simple meals in the kitchen and never left.

    Cristin2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • This was the most wonderful way to get away in the mountains for a few days. The falls were amazing and the cabin had everything needed to rest and relax. We will definitely be returning.

  • The owners are very hospitable. They made themselves available for anything we needed. The cabin cabin was very clean. It was stocked with snacks, drinks and coffee options. Front porch was great place to sit and relax. The pool table was a nice extra. The king size bed was very comfortable. We will definitely stay here again.

  • All perfect during our 1 week stay in this cabin!

    Ruth2019-11-23T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome cabin tucked away in the beautiful VA countryside. Janis and Tim are the most amazing hosts and they have outfitted the cabin with everything needed for a comfortable stay. The space is super clean and cozy, with a variety of yummy snacks and a great selection of coffees. There is also a dorm fridge stocked with water and sodas. The downstairs space is great for hanging out and playing pool, and it also has a kitchen area. Location couldn’t be more ideal. The Blue Ridge Parkway is just a few miles away and good restaurants are within a 20-30 minute drive. We are already looking forward to going back!

    Kim2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • You can expect a very clean cabin and very friendly hosts. We have stayed with Janis and Tim twice now and have plans for our next visit come spring time. This is a great area, centralized to all the activities nearby. Book with the reassurance that you will be happy with your choice.

    Lazaro R.2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed the remoteness of the cabin. It is close to the Interstate but you feel like you are miles from civilization. There is plenty of time to sit and rock and unwind.

    Clodia2019-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • Tim and Janis are very nice and make you feel welcome from the moment you arrive. Hope more people from Europe will spend some time in this beautiful region. If so, visit Tim and Janis, sit on there porch, just listen to the birds and watch the squirrels. What more do you need...

We love our long view and the utter silence just a mile off the Parkway. The country road dead-ends another half-mile down, so traffic is rare. Lots of walkable paths and such. The large deck faces South so the morning will come to you. Evenings are fun to watch the dusk cover the Hanging Rock and Pilot Mountain 25 miles across the way as the lights of Mt. Airy twinkle 1,800 feet below. Our very favorite time is when the clouds lay below us like a carpet with the sun above. Why leave?
The view is stunning all seasons of the year, except when the fog rolls in. It does that sometimes, especially when it's cold. The native Americans called it "foggy gap", not Fancy Gap. Technically, it's not really fog, but clouds that don't lift off the 2,000 ridge over the Piedmont below....but it's still hard to see through it. We have a webcam so we can see what we can and can't see, and will share with guests so you know, too.
You'll be on Elk Spur right off Lightening Ridge, which is right off the Blue Ridge Parkway a half mile from where it crosses old US 52. The Spur is dead end. While there are about 20 homes just past us in a recent development of weekenders, you can only see a few of them even in the Winter. There is little traffic, pretty much you and the hawks and a few deer.
  • Excellent value, exceptional views. Have stayed in a larger cabin in the neighborhood with the similar views, but much more expensive, and since just the 2 of us, this was perfect. Don't count on the wi fi or you will be disappointed. Phone calls drop too. But you don't go there for that. Wife saw turkeys and deer. I saw the white tail of one. Easy to get to Hillsville, Mt Airy, and of course the Blue Ridge Parkway. Bring CDs, DVDs in case of rain, or books, though he is an author and has a couple of his up there. Bed was comfortable. Be aware, there are 14 steps down to the deck and house entrance. So if stairs are an issue, keep that in mind. You have to go back up them in order to leave!

    Sharon2020-03-30T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent getaway with everything needed to enjoy the blue ridge mountains. Gary is a standout guy and has several works of literature to enjoy at the home too! I was blown away with the view and the calm atmosphere.

  • This cabin has the most incredible view (the pictures do not do it justice!) It is in a super convenient location and really easy to get to. The check in/check out is very simple and the hosts are great at communicating with you through the process. The house furnishings are a little underwhelming but with the experience and the view it can so easily be overlooked! 10/10 recommend staying here!

  • A wonderful clean place with a great view. It was quiet, clean, and pretty which is everything we were hoping for. We really enjoyed the gas fireplace in the living room. There is a flight of steps to get into the house so that’s just something to keep in mind. We brought our own food and were able to make everything we needed with the kitchen.

2020 marks the 100-year-old birthday to this charming farmhouse, located on a working horse farm within the town of Hillsville. It has been meticulously redecorated in 2015-16, with an elegantly simple flavor, displaying original hardwood floors, soften with area oriental style rugs. Central heat provides indoor comfort and usually, a breeze hosts the front porch. Ask about the horse whispering experience next door.
Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, there are breathtaking fall leaf colors and splendid mountain views. The New River supports fishing, kayaking and canoeing, while the New River Trail is 51 miles of walking, bicycling, or horseback riding. Nearby is the Blue Ridge Parkway, which you can visit Chateau Morrisette, Blue Ridge Music Center or Mabry Mill which is the most photographed mill in the nation. First weekend in August hosts the famous Galax Fiddlers Convention. The historic Rex Theatre in Galax offers music shows every weekend and occasional entertaining plays. Down the street is the Chestnut Creek Arts Center and antiquing opportunities downtown Galax. In April, Hillsville offers the unique play depicting the 1912 famous courthouse tragedy involving the Allen family. The play is reenacted in the original courthouse setting and tells of the involvement of area sites such as the Allen home on Hwy 52 S and the Felts home of Cliffview owned by the Felts-Baldwin Detective agency, which was instrumental in the capture of Sidna Allen. The Carroll County Historic Society maintains a museum of Tragedy artifacts. Beaver Dam Creek Trail is nearby for hiking. Golfing is hosted by Blue Ridge Country Club, Galax Municipal Golf Course and Ole Mill Golf Course in Laurel Fork. 28 miles away in Wytheville, Wohlfahrt Haus Dinner Theater offers professional musicals. 28 miles south into NC is Mt. Airy, home of Andy Griffith, of which Mayberry was created from, hosts delightful shopping.
You will think you are miles away from civilization and town is just a stone's throw away. A very quiet neighborhood with a peaceful view of beautiful horses.
  • Lisa goes above and beyond.

    Jo2020-03-23T00:00:00Z
  • Lisa's house is in such a lovely setting -- surrounded by a horse farm and serenity. The house is very quiet and rural, yet close to restaurants and other amenities. The inside of the house has old fashioned charm yet with modern amenities such as central heat and air. Our dog also enjoyed the weekend getaway and exploring the area. Will definitely come back!

    Rob2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time here! Between the very spacious house, the lovely town, and my personal favorite, the horses, it was a really good time!

  • If you’re looking for a great family friendly house with lots of character, you’ve found it! The house and town has an awesome bit of history to it and interesting pieces were posted all over the house. We enjoyed our stay with Lisa and also appreciated being able to take our dog.

  • Lovely spot. We enjoyed our stay at this farmhouse. Our daughters appreciated having the second floor (three bedrooms and a bath) to themselves. Lots of table space for games and meals with a view of fields and horses. Super convenient with a grocery store and shops and restaurants within a mile. We'd be happy to stay again.

We had an entire 1 bedroom living space with a full kitchen, bath, huge living room, and porch all to ourselves. It was very welcoming and cozy. Kathy is an exceptional host, and she gave us wonderful suggestions for food and activities. She is very kind, attentive, thoughtful and friendly. Spacious space with a roomy loft, and bright living area, and a private roomy hot tub.The yurt is in a peaceful area off of the Blue Ridge Parkway. We live within two miles of the yurt, but we do not come onto the property unless there is an issue or something needs to be repaired. I, or a repair person can usually be out there within the hour for a minor repair. We have an information book of nearby wineries, breweries, restaurants, ziplining and hiking trails nearby.
This luxurious yurt has privacy fencing on the back and a drop off with gorgeous views at the front. It has central heat/air, a well stocked kitchen and a huge bathroom with a walk in shower and a claw foot tub. Enjoy the hot tub on the huge deck with mountainous views.
The yurts are just behind a golf course called Skyland Lakes. It’s a nice course. It’s a five minute walk or a two minute drive. Hiking is all nearby with Cumberland knob, Devils Den with caves, the Blue Ridge Music center has two hiking trails as well.
  • I recommend staying here! This was our first experience in a yurt. So I thought it would be neat. It was better and very relaxing!!!

  • Very nice location with. Beautiful veiw of the Fancy Gap area and Blue Ridge Mountains. Worth the trip.

    Steven2020-04-28T00:00:00Z
  • The yurt experience exceeded our expectations. It was beautiful and quaint. Loved the sky view thru the dome when waking. The space was very clean and had everything that we needed. Enjoyed the hot tub with a view of the mountain ridges in the distance. We loved cooking while we were there. Pots, pans, and cooking utensils were nice. There’s a toaster oven but not a big oven for baking so plan on stovetop meals. Directions, check-in, and check-out was organized with easy to follow directions. There’s another Yurt close by with a privacy fence between and a shared storage building that houses a washer/dryer and extra supplies. Booking both yurts would be a great way to get back to nature with friends or family!

    Leslie2020-04-19T00:00:00Z
  • Great place, helpful tips on local hikes/amenities and overall a solid location. The space was very clean and the hot tub was awesome. Bring a corkscrew if you’re drinking wine and grill tools if you plan on using the outdoor grill. We would definitely recommend this spot!

  • Eric’s little cabin is a perfect getaway. Easy directions and eric was extremely hospitable. Their farm is really nice and we were able to walk around and explore. The goats and donkey are really cool and are fenced right next to the cabin which is cool. You have everything you need with this cabin. Also great value for the price. Will definitely be back!

  • Great place had a nice time really nice location!

    Anthony2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had the one room cabin- it’s very private and sits at the bottom of a hill where they have goats and chickens and a rooster! (There is a wire fence between the cabin and the animals) but you can see them hopping around and strutting their stuff (mainly the rooster strutting). There is a fire pit with the cabin. It is located right in the middle of a clearing in the trees so you can look straight up and see the starts so clearly. It was beautiful. They also have another bigger cabin which we saw while we were exploring the property/ trails. it’s perfect too of course. I’ve stayed at several Airbnb locations through the years but this place has the best vibe 100%. The cabin was super cute and they have all of the essentials. The hosts were amazing and very helpful. I’d recommend this to anyone - I already have in fact!

    Rachel2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely amazing. Private, quiet, and the tranquility is perfect. The goats were on our porch this morning and made my day! We could not have picked a better place with a better value to spend the weekend off the grid and in such a peaceful place! We will be returning when we come back to Laurel Fork to look at more properties to buy ourselves. If you're looking to visit, please do. You won't regret it.

    Marrah2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • So, we got engaged this weekend and this cabin! Such a romantic, fun time! Pack as if you’re going camping though! We survived the cold December nights with sleeping bags for each of us. The lighters and matches that were there didn’t work but luckily we were prepared. The firewood was also very wet because there is no roof on the building. Just something to keep in mind. But, we made it work! I would still love to go back soon!!

    Darien Claire2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • I was nervous about arriving by myself after dark. If I didn’t have my two dogs with me I might have turned around. I was glad I came prepared with flashlights and a zero degree weather sleeping bag. I stayed warm even though the space heater kept turning off all night. I had plenty of propane I just kept having to relight the pilot light. The bed was comfortable and the little cabin had everything I needed for one night. In the light of day it was a beautiful place and I would love to go back to camp and explore the trails with another person.

Small cottage secluded on 31 private acres. 3 bedrooms (2 full beds; 2 twin beds). One bath with claw tub/shower. House built in 1929 by owner's grandfather. Comfortably furnished. Linens provided. Front porch and back deck. Playhouse for children.
Secluded, peaceful. Great place to stay for musicians interested in mountain music!
    Peaceful, quiet, safe.
  • Terrific hideaway for home base or quiet R&R. The house is amazing, full of wonders past into present. Enjoy the porch, the quiet, the breeze. Amelia is great with communication and the house is exactly (but better) as described. Great for solos or several.

  • For a girls road trip, this was a perfect little home away from home. A true gem in a small town with so much history, you have the entire place to yourself but are only minutes from practical amenities such as gas as food. We particularly enjoyed the privacy off the main road and saw chipmunks and deer each morning. Definitely an older place but that’s part of the charm of historic places. We would stay again if in the area!

  • The best

    Rick2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • This was my second stay at Granny's. It was the perfect home base as I explored the area and looked for a place I might buy as a permanent home. Tucked up and away from the road, you really get a sense of privacy - with the exception of the pond's occasional heron, a bald eagle flying overhead, or slow moving cows in the nearby pasture. Amelia was incredibly kind and helpful during our communications and interactions. Wi-Fi is good enough I could work remotely and end the day with the occasional Netflix binge. A truly special and lovely spot. Make sure to take a walk up the hill to get even more views of the rolling hills surrounding the area.

  • Great place. Our third visit and this time for 2 weeks.

    Cindy2019-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay here. I think we spent most of our time sitting on the front porch taking in the view, relaxing in the hammock, and enjoying the pond. Amelia went out of her way to make our stay wonderful!

  • Beautiful house and land. A+ host! Could not ask for a better, more relaxing place! If you are looking for a peacfull mountain getaway, this is the spot. Lots of great hikes, trails and swimming near by too.

    Dan2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • As a person on the hunt for her own homestead, this place was 100% the type of place I aspire to one day have. The house is set far back from the road so you can’t see it, and passing cars can’t see you. The sound of cattle in the background and the occasional croak of a frog. A great porch to watch the clouds and appreciate the landscape. A field to walk in. And really good WiFi? I couldn’t have asked for anything more...I will say I had a very hard time finding the silverware but that’s because I’m a nincompoop (it’s very obviously on the kitchen table but I spent many minutes checking and re-checking drawers because I am silly).

Not close to fast food. Kitchen is fully stocked to be able to cook. Close to Mt. Airy for restaurants and entertainment. A great place for a family getaway. Highly recommend!

The home is located in the beautiful blue ridge mountains of southwest Virginia midway between the towns of Galax and Hillsville. It is conveniently located just three miles from Exit 19 off Interstate 77. One of the major events here is the Galax Fiddlers' Convention held in August. The dates this year are August 8 - 14. Another major event is the Hillsville Labor Day Flea Market and Gun Show which brings in about 100,000 people so it has been said. Dates are Sept. 2 - 5, 2016.
This home is located in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of the southwestern part of Virginia. It is 80 miles southwest of Roanoke and 80 miles north of Winston Salem. The location is about three miles from exit 19 of Interstate 77. Twin County airport is three miles away. There is a multitude of activities in which to participate in the area.
This is a quiet country atmosphere where one can totally relax.
  • Great host and place! Everything positive...nothing negative at all!!

  • We just wanted to crash there for a night on way back home. We were pleasantly amazed by the place and host. It’s an awesome place and one the best place we ever experienced. Shirley is extremely sweet and helpful. You will find more than what you expect at her place.

    Kumarkrishna2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • Great place out in the country away from the Interstate noise.

    Steven2019-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • Shirley has a nice place conveniently located close to highway 77. I only wish the Airbnb app worked as it should prior to my arrival. I was not able to open the link showing all the house rules. She has sensitivities to scented lotion, soap and the like and requires shoes be removed at the door. Had I known, my check in experience would have been better. I would definitely stay again.

Camping on the New River about a 5 minute walk to the New River Trail and State Park Fire pit Beautiful view of river Road is smooth but: NEED 4 wheel drive for campsite Two wheel drive for camping shelter Shelter has power, light and fridge. Cold water from hose Or can walk to site Rent to only one group at a time for privacy
It’s at the end of Whipporwill Ridge in a forested area next to the river. Go to the end of Whipporwill Ridge , Fries, Va and someone will meet you there to show you around
  • If you want privacy, have a beautiful view and spend a few pleasant days do not think twice and book with James, very friendly, the place is clean and with a beautiful view, it is the second time we have stayed in this place and we will do it again

    Catheryne2020-04-26T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome spot to camp with beautiful views. Great shelter to enjoy time outside.

    Roy2020-04-19T00:00:00Z
  • It is three times as beautiful and cozy as the photos show, highly recommended with an excellent view of the river, perfect for couples or friends who want to escape a bit from the routine

    Catheryne2020-04-09T00:00:00Z
  • The shelter was fantastic! Kept us dry through a couple of showers. The running water and privy made the stay even more comfortable. There was fire wood, plenty of small tender around the site, a small charcoal grill and a coal starter. We’ll be making our way back!

    David2020-04-07T00:00:00Z
  • I definitely recommend staying here! The view was gorgeous and the campsites are very private. The area was beautiful and there was tons of hiking trails around and stuff to do.

    Stacey2020-03-28T00:00:00Z
  • Great little getaway!

    Darcy2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • Great camping spot! I stayed at the campsite (as opposed to the shelter). It is 5 minute walk to the river and New River Trail. The driveway was pretty good, but I was glad I had 4x4

    Harmon2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • James' place was wonderful. We booked it super last minute and got there just before dark, and he met us at the parking space and showed us to the cabin. There was an outlet with a bright light, a mini-fridge thoughfully stocked with waterbottles, a hose and faucet nearby, an outhouse, a shower. a charcoal grill, a firepit, and some pre-cut firewood! Very thoughful. We didn't actually stay in the campsight, since our car didn't have 4 wheel drive, but the shelter space was wonderful. We just pitched out tent in the shelter, which worked out well! (note: there are two possible campsights--up by the shelter/fridge area and then about a 5-min downhill walk to the actual campsight). We loved it and hope to be back someday!

This quaint, warm cabin in scenic, serene Elk Creek is located on the mountain up a gravel road on 5 wooded acres. The area is loaded with wild turkey and deer, and the occasional bear. This is the perfect getaway for nature lovers, hikers, hunters, fishers, bluegrass music enthusiasts, or anyone simply looking to disconnect from technology and the busyness of life. Roast marshmallows in the fire pit, grill out on our charcoal grill, rock on the front porch, or fish just 1 mile from the cabin.
This cabin is very special to my family. It was built by my papa and several others in our family. We have shared many fond memories here and hope you will too. Our cabin is a rustic getaway for those seeking adventure, privacy, and peace. There is little to no cell reception, unless in town. We also do not have wifi or cable. This is a place to connect with loved ones instead of technology. We do have a tv and a dvd collection, and games! We recently had tree work done, a new roof installed, new back steps, and had some wood rot repaired. Exterior paint is coming soon!
The cabin is located up a winding gravel mountain road full of beautiful scenery near the historic site where Caty Sage was said to have been kidnapped. The road is bumpy, but doesn't require 4 wheel drive. You DO need 4 wheel drive if visiting while snow is on the ground. Our cabin is a rustic getaway for those seeking adventure, privacy, and peace.
  • Very clean, private, secluded, such a nice cabin. Perfect place to get away and unwind.

  • Everything was exactly as stated in all the details about the cabin. My family and I were very happy with our stay. I recommend this cabin if you are seriously looking for relaxation, peace and quiet!

    Todd2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful cabin to relax and enjoy some relaxing time. The cabin had 2 full bedrooms, one bath and space for 6 to stay. The property is large, and the house includes a front and back (screened in) porch. There is also a fire pit behind the house. The kitchen has full appliances to cook if you choose to do so. The house has a TV with a DVD player and nothing more. It’s what you should do on a nice trip such as this: disconnect, relax, and have no use for WiFi of cell service. Communication was great, quick, and thorough. Would highly recommend to anybody looking for a relaxing weekend. Hikes and outdoor walks are available in driving distance.

    Craig2019-11-25T00:00:00Z

  • Danielle was a wonderful host and her cabin was delightful! If you are needing a picturesque place to unplug from the daily grind, this is it!! It has the best stocked kitchen of any place I’ve ever stayed. The view of the river and the rolling hills of farmland are gorgeous! It is very clean and had a better supply of towels than usual too! We loved it!

  • Beautiful peaceful location! Very clean! A wonderful hostess that makes you feel so welcome. She has thought of everything. Directions made it easy to find. Will definitely stay again & recommend to friends. Even more beautiful than the pictures. Awesome place to stay for kayaking. Close to several boat landings.

    Stacey2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • This pretty cabin had it all- simple country charm; every amenity you would expect to see at home; comfortable beds; a lovely view of the countryside with its rolling hills; and enough wildlife to keep you entertained for hours. Located on the New River, we were lulled by the sound of the river as it flowed nearby. While not isolated, the property was quiet and relaxing. Eclectic restaurants were easily within a reasonable drive. If you like the outdoors, canoeing, kayaking, or fishing you are within an easy drive of three state parks, Grayson Highlands State Park, New River Trail State Park, and a short drive south, in North Carolina, Mount Jefferson State Park. Danielle provided good information for the surrounding area. Would I stay here again? YES, YES and YES!!!
