Holiday rentals in Lanzarote

Formed by volcanic eruptions millions of years ago, the Canary Islands off the coast of West Africa are a bucket-list destination for many travelers. On Lanzarote, the lava flows have created otherworldly landscapes both on land and underwater. As the easternmost island, and one of the oldest, the Spanish territory has a wealth of attractions to explore. Spend your Lanzarote holiday splashing in the turquoise waters of Playa Blanca, lounging at the beach resorts of Costa Teguise, or seeing and being seen at the marina at Puerto Calero. Though with the array of covetable holiday villas available to rent, you’d be forgiven for staying in, too.

Lanzarote’s consistently warm and pleasant weather draws visitors all year long. With very little rainfall and endless sunny days, you couldn’t ask for a better climate for your hard-earned vacation. The air temperature is almost always in the 70s Fahrenheit, whether it’s January or June, and the sea temperature is a few degrees cooler, ranging from around 64 in the winter to 73 or so in the summer, so its crystal-clear waters are perfect for diving at any time of year.

Timanfaya National Park

This alien landscape, created by a series of 18th-century volcanic eruptions, looks like something that belongs on the moon. (It’s no accident that a world-renowned space program chose Timanfaya as a training base.) The national park allows visitors to explore its 21-square-mile area by means of a bus tour. Highlights include the Islote de Hilario volcano and a restaurant that uses steam from the park’s geysers to cook your meal.

Jameos del Agua/Cesar Manrique Home

This famous architect helped bring the world’s attention to Lanzarote, and though he died in 1992, his legacy lives on, especially on the northern end of the island, near the village of Hariá. Known for his ability to integrate architecture with nature, his style is on display at his famous Volcano House, built into boulders in a lava field; it also features an exhibition space with work by famous contemporary artists.

Beaches

Lanzarote has no shortage of beach resorts, some of which include luxury shopping, lively nightlife, and ocean activities galore. You can sunbathe at Playa Blanca, snorkel the waters off Playa Papagayo, go windsurfing at Playa de Las Cucharas, and finish off the night in one of Puerto del Carmen’s clubs and bars until the sun comes up.

Teguise

Lanzarote's historic former capital, Teguise, is worth a visit for its 16th-century architecture. Overlooking it all is the imposing Castillo Santa Barbara (Santa Barbara Castle), built to protect the islanders from marauders such as Sir Francis Drake, and now a pirate-themed museum.
