Family-friendly holiday rentals in Lothian

I booked this property for my husband and his 3 friends for his 40th birthday. Wallace was extremely communicative at all times, and was very welcoming to the group on arrival. One of the guests arrived early and while Wallace explained the place would not be ready till check in, the guest was able to fish on the loch till later in the day, and thoroughly enjoyed himself! The property was as described, perfectly clean and the location was exactly what I was looking for when I booked. It was easy to find, and the walking guides and maps of the local area were very helpful too. Would book again!

We had an amazing week at Nether Glenny! The location is absolutely stunning, offering breathtaking views and endless opportunities for walking right from the cottage. Alison was extremely accommodating, making sure we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We especially loved relaxing in the hot tub after a day of exploring the beautiful local area. If you’re looking for a peaceful retreat with fantastic hospitality, this is the place to be. Highly recommended—we can’t wait to return!

We had a lovely couple of days here as a family. Home was lovely spacious and gret views. on arrival were greeted and shown round by familys lovely son. scones and wine waiting for us which was a lovely touch. views from the hot tub were stunning and the rivwr at the botom of the garden made for lovely sounds. Wether was great so made it even more special. would definately return. thanks for having us.

We had an absolutely lovely time at Ali's place. Spacious, clean and very comfortable. Hot tub and garnden really make the place with stunning views. Easy access to Edinburgh by train and car and also the Fife coastal path. We loved it! would be very happy to return again one day. Ali was the perfect host.

Maggie’s cottage in Dunning is a true gem. The place is beautifully set up, with a cosy but clean feel. The garden and retro hot tub add another dimension and make this an unforgettable stay. We will be back! Thanks a lot

We all enjoyed the stay. The place helped to make us feel comfortable. We had all we needed. Short walk to Killin village where you can find a co-op, restaurants, hotels, takeaways and pubs within walking distance. The falls of Dochart are close by which made the area more appealing. Great views, peaceful and the river on the balcony is amazing. Everything was in great condition and well maintained. The Highlands can be a bit challenging if it's your first time getting around but this place is in a perfect location on the Bridge of Loch Tay and was easy to find following the instructions given. There's a hotel/pub right next door and a golf course. I would've enjoyed staying longer as it felt just like home and I would use again if the opportunity ever arises.

Deborah was a wonderful host, and she made us feel very welcome to Perth:) The cottage was stunning and well-equipped with everything, and the hot tub was an excellent addition! We felt very safe as she was staying near us, and she gave us great advice for travelling around Edinburgh and St Andrew's. Overall it was a pleasant stay at Riverview Retreat, and we definitely intend to visit it again!

We rented Ladywell Lodge with the Doocot for a large family holiday. Though the cottage is up in the hills, it was very quick to get to major routes. The lodge was perfect for the two couples who stayed there. It is tucked away in its own large outdoor space with woods and hill walks just moments away. It was comfortable and clean with everything as described. The kitchen was well laid out and the sitting room really cosy. The hosts were great too - Sandra is really responsive and we found the flexible check in really good. It was perfect for our family and being able to pair renting this with the Doocot meant we had a brilliant space for lots of people to stay. My husband and I would love to go back and would happily rent the lodge again as it was so comfortable in a beautiful setting. Highly recommend.

We visited the cottage for a long weekend as we love the Borders. From first communication with Lowry I knew we would not be disappointed. The cottage was so lovely, peaceful and beautifully furnished. It was not like a holiday cottage at all it was definitely like a home. The garden was amazing and our dogs absolutely loved it. The welcome pack was extremely generous and thoughtful and along with other luxurious touches like bathrobes it did make the visit one that stood out. The pub across the road was really nice and it was a pleasant surprise just how lovely it was when we walked in. My partner said several times he could live in the cottage and wondered if they would sell it to us! We would love to return. Thank you x

Outstanding cottage, would love to come back soon! The photos don’t do it justice! It’s even better when you’re there. Spotlessly clean, beautiful kitchen/dining room and comfortable bed. A spacious and well maintained property in a superb location in the centre of Elie. The house is actually situated on the same road as the Ship Inn (probably the best pub/restaurant in Elie) which is very short walk away, as is the beach. The house also benefits from excellent privacy, and it has a small, completely walled in, front garden which makes it very secure for a dog (if you bring one).

Lovely wee flat, enjoyed our stay very much. Broughty Ferry is a great place to visit & the accommodation was spotless & met our needs well.

What a lovely cottage! Julie and Nigel's cottage is a real home from home, and it matches the photographs perfectly. Thoughtfully decorated, and made to feel homely with blankets, pictures, books etc. Homemade bread and delicious muffins, plus milk and tea and good coffee were most welcome. I appreciated the use of Eco friendly cleaning products and shampoos etc. Comfortable bed with cotton duvet cover and comfy pillows. Big, fluffy towels were great. There are maps and suggestions of places to visit and eat. Julie sent me some recommendations too which were helpful. Friendly neighbours who are keen to share information too. It is perfect for two people - and our dog was made ever so welcome too. Julie and Nigel were responsive to messages right from booking to the end of our stay. Thank you Julie and Nigel for letting us stay in your lovely home.

Very peaceful location in the country but close enough to Saline and Dunfermline for anything you might need.

We had a wonderful weekend at the cottage, which was the perfect location and had everything we could possibly need for our stay. The cottage was beautifully decorated, the photos don't do it justice. Hope to be back again in the future xxx

We had an enjoyable weekend break in the Lookout at Pitmilly. Excellent standard of accommodation and facilities and a wonderful setting, convenient for exploring the Fife coast. Would highly recommend.

Everything in the accommodation was kept clean, and the kitchen was well-equipped, so it was convenient to use.What was a little disappointing was that the bathroom shower leaked, so it was a little uncomfortable. Overall, it was a satisfactory accommodation.

Perfect stay for a large group wishing to have both a taste of rural Scotland and the bright lights of the city! Great house for large groups with more than adequate cooking facilities. Excellent hot tub that was kept meticulously clean. The hosts were amazing and so helpful with helping me organise a stag weekend. Sharing local knowledge and recommendations of activities and hostelries, etc. Milngavie is a perfect location to explore both Glasgow city (20 minute train ride) and hit the start of the West Highland Way! Milngavie was a nice little town itself with an active high street and a good Tesco and station just a 3 minute walk from Pleasant Hill. We really enjoyed Fullbacks sports bar as well- good value food and an atmosphere. Activities we enjoyed from Pleasant Hill were a walk to Glengoyne Distillery, afternoon and night out in West End Glasgow and a speed boat pub tour of Loch Lomond! Thanks again Chris!

Lovely, comfortable cottage with everything we needed for our stay. It’s in walking distance of the shops, pubs and importantly for us an electric charging point. We had a lovely walk to the local waterfall, visited Kielder and Hexham. We would definitely stay again.

This is a super place to stay . Modern and tasteful in a beautiful historic building, right on the riverside. It is super clean, very comfortable beds, plenty big soft towels . It feels like a home from home as Anthony has put so much thought and care into making the apartment so welcoming .

We had an amazing stay at the Orchard hideaway - it is in beautiful, rural and peaceful surroundings, and is exactly like the photos. It is private, warm and very clean, the hot tub is great and well maintained, and the host has thought of everything to make it a comfortable relaxing stay. We would love to come back and 100% recommend!

Karan was extremely responsive, great communication. Place was worth every penny compared to other hires in the park. Only issue we had was that the caravan had a horrible stench when we got there, most likely something the previous people cooked as the place didn’t have an extractor fan on the hob. We messaged Karan and he sent someone over to refill the air freshener but the odour over powered so took more than a day to die out. Other than that we had a lovely stay and would recommend this place to others.
