    Cumberland, MD, United States

Rustic, 100 year old 1 rm primitive cabin in West Virginia along the Cacapon River. Beautifully restored with wood stove, loft, & screened in porch. Access to 214 acres of private mountain land & over 1/4 mile of river frontage plus 1/2 acre pond, trails, and private shooting range. This cabin is completely off grid. It has NO electricity or plumbing/running water, but does have a Porta-John serviced weekly. Renter will be cabin camping so pack accordingly; tents also welcome.
The rental is a historic cabin with the exterior recently renovated to maintain its rustic look. It is suitable for outdoorsman, couples wanting a more rugged romantic getaway in private, or for family camping. Note that some building materials (stacks of lumber and barn boards) are still on premises from the renovations. The cabin has a large screened in porch and an open floor plan on the main floor with a small loft overlooking it. Four people can comfortably camp in the cabin. Guests can throw down a sleep pad and sleeping bag on the floor or in the loft or bring a cot. There are two cots and a small hammock strung between beams inside for your use. There is also a Porta-John serviced weekly outside the cabin. The cabin is completely off grid and does not have running water/plumbing/electricity. It is primitive camping in style, but that means you will see creepy crawly things like spiders and possibly even a mouse. You need to pack like your are camping. Also, it is mandatory you bag out all waste (HUMAN or otherwise). I recommend bringing a camp toilet if you do not want to use the Porta-John. Due to the water table essentially at ground level, we take proper disposal of human waste very seriously because it will rapidly pollute the ground water. On very humid days you may be able to here a distant crackling sound caused by the high tension powerlines that cross the property. Don't worry, that is normal. The wood stover is now operational for the season. Please familiarize yourself in advance of proper use of a wood stove and specifically the damper (YouTube). If you intend to use the wood stove, please bring your own firewood (wood may or may not be there), make sure the fire is completely out before leaving the cabin, and do not split wood inside or on the porch. The gas range is not currently operational. Please do not try to use it. If you would like to make a fire outside, there is a camp fire ring in front of the porch with some benches and logs to sit on and a pile for wood in front of it. Do not cut or damage live trees for wood. Feel free to bring a grill, generator, battery operated fan (it's hot and humid in the summer), or other convenience. If you want to just tent camp, that is perfectly fine too and I recommend using the upper campsite for that since it offers an excellent view and privacy.
You are in the mountains of West Virginia. People are friendly and respectful and enjoy their privacy and expect the same courtesy. Although very private, you will occasionally see a neighbor passing the cabin en route to their property at the far end of the access road. If you head to the back 164 acres, you will pass through a small portion of private property owned by a neighbor. You have permission to use the access road, but be respectful of their property and camp site/cabin.
  • Jonathan is a really nice guy

    Sean2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • I love this rustic cabin. It’s fun to be off grid for a couple days. This is such a peaceful place. Weather hiking or just being on the river, it’s just a great escape. Thanks ! Will return soon.

    Michael2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time! It was COLD but our second night we almost got sweat out of the cabin by the stove! If you're arriving late like we did (11pm almost) I would take care to really pay attention to the written directions that Jonathan provides. It gets much harder to see signs and to see the river crossing when it's the middle of the night, but the directions were true and led us directly to the cabin without any second thought. We brought our own firewood but the extra wood split by the cabin was a thoughtful addition and we appreciated it being there if we had needed it. We were also appreciative of previous guests who had left spare supplies behind. You shouldn't have a shortage of necessities thanks to the community leaving their extras. All in all, it was a beautiful bit of land and we cannot wait to visit again when it gets warmer. The first night was rough with the cabin not being warm inside beforehand, and waiting on the stove to do its job, but our next day and following evening were great and a very memorable experience.

  • What a gorgeous location! We wished we could have stayed longer!

    Rebecca2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to disconnect and enjoy friends and family. Lots of nature, plants, trees, owls and coyotes calling in the distance. Had visits from possums to see what we were up to. We'll be back.

    Joseph2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • Love this place. Been staying here for 3 years and will continue to come back for as long as allowed. Everything you could ask for.

    Great Cacapon, WV, United States

Enter through the basement entrance into a kitchenette, includes several appliances, shelving and table. Close the curtains to your private double bed with a window; fan or heat. Close to I-68, and FSU, not too far from GAP. Also in the basement is a private half bath, washer, dryer, and NOW a standing shower! Your private room also host a pull out sofa couch, closet, dresser and desk.
Frostburg has charm. My space is simple. A place to rest along a trip (by car or bike). No real bells or whistles, but clean, safe and out of the elements. I am super happy to now have a shower in the basement for guest to have all their needs on one level.
Small town, close to main street for community events, and far enough away to be peaceful.
  • Great place to spend the night!

  • Great place for a quick trip!

    Anna2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Heather is a very nice host! She seemed very genuine and was as accommodating as could be. The space is definitely under construction, but is very spacious, has nice amenities, and can shape up to be quite a nice guest suite! Had a good stay!

    Dylan2019-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Heather’s to treat ourselves to a non-camping night while doing a multi-day GAP ride. We lucked out and found her place last minute in a pinch when we couldn’t find anything in Cumberland. Heather and her family are warm and welcoming and even offered us pie! While not luxurious, or in the realm of a “treat yo self” stay, it definitely served its purpose with providing a warm place to stay with beds and a hot shower! We were super happy to have stayed here and would do it again to break up the camping streak when bike packing. I’d say our least favorite part was getting OFF the trail and back. Frostburg is much hillier than we hoped after a long day of riding.

    Maribel2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Close proximity to frostburg downtown and FSU, I'd stay there again!

This a sweet 2 bedroom bungalow. Ideal for lovers, or a quiet beautiful environment for a retreat. Rooster has 1 full bath. Living room with satellite TV, wood burning stove fireplace, wood provided , fully equipped kitchen, dining table, linens and paper goods furnished. Large deck looking out on Cacapon Mountain. Hot tub off master bedroom deck in trees, feels like a tree house. Most mornings a mist rises up from river, about half mile away as crow flies, access point about a mile.
Private hot tub under stars, big deck over the valley with Cacapon Mountain in the distance
Outside Great Cacapon WV, a rural subdivision with 5-acre plots. Roads form a nice 1.25 walk. Deer, at least one bear, fireflies, birds, squirrels, raccoons. Quiet with a distant train whistle every couple of hours. Overlooking Cacapon Mountain, near river with dedicated access points. A mile or so away are two public access points. Good for kayaking, swimming and river sitting. Can introduce local kayak guides. Potomac River at Hancock is good for canoeing and kayaking or cycling on C&O Canal Towpath or Western Maryland Rail Trail. Cacapon Resort State Park is good for hiking and nature walks with rangers. Berry picking, home brewed kombucha nearby. Massage in Berkeley Springs and a modest but lively arts and music scene. Farmers market on Sundays April-December. Lots of thrift shops
  • The cabin is a wonderful getaway from DC. The driveway is tricky, but the cabin itself is great. The kitchen has all of the basics. The house is clean and comfortable (the hot tub was super clean!). Jim has lots of great tips for the area.

  • Great place, we have been there 3x and plan to go back

    Brian2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely an outstanding place to stay!! My third stay here and have loved it more everytime we stay here! Excellent secluded place to stay while still being just minutes from town. James is a fantastic host who is quick to respond to any questions or issues you may have. WiFi, tv with internet, outside grill, newly enclosed screen deck, an EXCELLENT kitchen with all the utensils, pots ,and pans you need to cook anything, and the best thing...a 6 person outdoor hottub!! We travel to Berkeley several times a year and James is always our first choice!

    Adam2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at rooster wrest. Close to Great Cacapon state park and Berkeley springs. The house was as advertised in every way. A very cool property in beautiful West Virginia!

    Dane2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • James was quick to communicate leading up to our trip. His home was cozy yet more spacious than I anticipated. The hot tub was a great plus. Very nice outdoor areas that would be ideal on warmer days. I would definitely recommend.

    Marta2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cabin

    Ayana2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful view of the Great Cacapon mountains, lots of places to hike, and the cabin was much more spacious than the pictures suggest. James responded immediately to our questions. We had a wonderful stay!

    Timothy2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • The house is even better than the pictures show, and the location is very peaceful. There is one house nearby, but it is not at all visible due to the rooster wrest being set down a bit among the boulders and trees. You will feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere, except just 15 minutes away is the most adorable little town with everything you could need. Already planning our next stay at this wonderful location!

Tucker's Retreat is a cozy cabin nestled in the West Virginia mountains, with everything you need for your getaway. The standouts: - Grill and relax on our 20 foot deck - Walk 2 mins down the hill to swim or fish in our small private lake & beach - Drive 3 mins to Cacapon State Park for hiking, golf, & horseback riding (you can literally hike from our cabin straight into the park!) - Drive 15 mins into Berkeley Springs for amazing restaurants, shopping, and dozens of festivals Enjoy!
Our large, family-friendly cabin is packed with amenities and fun for groups large and small. The cabin includes: - 3 bedrooms + a large basement sleeping area with three more beds - Chalet-style lofted ceiling with large windows that let in tons of light - A huge wrap-around deck with a propane grill - Kitchen with a dishwasher - Central heat and AC (it gets hot outside in WV in the summer!) - The fastest WiFi you can get in the WV mountains (25 Mbps) - Downstairs pool table - TV with dozens of movies, DVD player, and Roku - Outside fire pit with a stack of pre-cut firewood you can use Note: we have an indoor fireplace, but unfortunately it's not usable and is only decorative. Our cabin also has access to a small private lake (shared with just a few other cabins). It's about a 100-yard walk down the hill from our place. There's a beach and a dock -- and another floating platform in the middle of the lake -- and it's stocked with fish (we've caught bluegills, bass, and catfish). We have fishing poles and several tubes/inflatables and beach toys you can use! We often take our two little kids and dog to the cabin with us, so we're very family- and dog-friendly. We have a pack 'n play for sleeping, a high chair, and plenty of toys and children's books. Beyond the cabin itself, we love how close to everything we are. We're nestled in the Cacapon Mountains, directly next to Cacapon Resort State Park. The park is free to enter, and has a ton of activities -- including another lake and beach, clay shooting, horseback riding, an 18-hole golf course, and miles of hiking trails. Lastly, you can get to the city of Berkeley Springs in about 15 minutes. The town has been voted one of the top arts communities in the US, and the shopping, spa, and restaurant scene does not disappoint. March 2020 update: we're taking the coronavirus risk seriously, and have taken steps to ensure you're able to fully enjoy your stay: - We're using disinfecting spray on all surfaces and handles (doors, appliances) and only using disposable paper towels when cleaning - Our cleaners are washing their hands thoroughly as soon as they arrive at the cabin - If a cleaner is showing signs of sickness, they will be staying home and not allowed in the cabin We hope you enjoy your visit, and want you to stay healthy! If anything, now's probably a better time than ever to get away to the woods!
Tucker's Retreat is just south of the city of Berkeley Springs, and feels like a world away from everything. The cabin is nestled in the Cacapon Mountains on a quiet gravel road, directly adjacent to Cacapon State Park. We love our private lake and beach. We often go swimming, tubing and fishing in the lake. It's small, but it's perfect on a hot summer day. We have a few water shoes you can use, but please consider bringing your own flip flops or water shoes; the lake can sometimes get a little muddy near the beach. We also have several inflates tubes and other water/beach toys you can use. When it comes to hiking and other outdoor activities, Cacapon State Park is right next door and has a ton to offer. There's no entrance fee, and there are dozens of hiking trails over 6,000 acres. Better yet, they have a ton of other activities like an 18-hole golf course, horseback riding, clay shooting (with guns/clays you can rent), and another lake/beach. We love it. About a 10 min drive from our place is a small local brewery, Berkeley Springs Brewing Company. They're constantly churning out new beer (literally every week); we're big fans of their IPA and sour beers. They also have a smoker with fantastic BBQ!
  • I planned a solo trip for myself and my dog Marshall, the lake access is what caught my attention. The cabin is lovely, set up on a hill with a beautiful view. The fenced in deck was perfect for my pup and he enjoyed chasing the moths in the evening. I enjoyed cooking and being able to sit out on the deck enjoying nature. I honestly didn’t need to contact Tony outside of the reservation because all instructions were incredibly clear and I had no issues. I plan to come back when it’s warmer so I can enjoy the lake as much as Marshall did :) great place!

    Catherine2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Tony’s place is another home, good for groups. They are very responsive. The deck is my favourite spot.

    Kevin2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Some friends and I were traveling through town and needed a place to crash, so we came to Tony's. It's incredibly beautiful, quiet, spacious, and was an overall great find. I highly recommend staying here! I'm hoping to come back in the summer time to really take advantage of the nature

    Dustin2020-02-28T00:00:00Z

    Rob2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • Basic accommodations , perfect when you are biking the C&O. Host Daniel is a volunteer on the canal and can answer any questions. He is a wealth of knowledge. Breakfast was super.

    John And William2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • If you are bicycling the C&O, you should stay with Daniel. His local tips and his directions saved us 16 miles and put us on 30 miles of good paving that parallels the C&O. He also cooks breakfast individually (for each guest). I was amazed at his hospitality. My friend (Shawn) and I have never had a more informative host. You will not be dieappointed. Thank you, Dan.

    Bob2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • I can't impress enough upon C&O travelers Dan's hospitality and generosity. From meeting us in the cool darkness of Paw Paw tunnel, to the cozy home-like accommodations, to the recommendations of "dining options" in Paw Paw (limited, btw) and wrapping up with a great home-cooked breakfast and conversation and inspiring words. You will experience true spirit of a genuinely positive human spirit serving others. It is one of the memorable highlights of our C&O Canal Towpath passage.

    Richard2019-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • Dan's place was just as expected. Dan was a super host, kind and wise and willing to help those in need. Really was a boost to meet someone so open and willing to help his fellow humans along the trail!

    Ann2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place to stay on the C & O canal trail!

  • We had a wonderful experience using AirBnb for the first time. Keith was a great, detailed host and the cabin was beyond expectations. Very clean, updated and cozy! They left us sweet treats and a bottle of wine to celebrate our Anniversary, that was a nice surprise! The views were so pretty, if you want “up high on the mountain” then this is it! We will definitely be back!

  • Staying at Keith's cabin in Great Cacapon was such a treat. A nice scenic drive up a mountain that leads to Keith's cabin overlooking the Potomac. The cabin was clean, well appointed and comfortable. Some great restaurants with local charm in Berkley Springs (Tari's) and Hancock (Buddylou's). Would love to visit this cabin again!

Henry is a beautiful stone house located on the Historic National Pike. It has a one acre garden of diverse native perennials planted by our friend Henry Yates, past owner, builder, horticulturist, and namesake of the property. The house adjoins our 10 acre homesite affording guests the opportunity to enjoy our shared seasonal pool located behind our house next door. There is a fire pit, and hiking trails, as well.
Enjoy breakfast overlooking the garden from the dining room or patio. A spacious living room with stone fireplace will keep you warm and cozy on a chilly winter evening. During warmer months sit around the outdoor fire pit or take a dip in the shared pool next door.
Henry is just outside of town but is only 3 minutes from the downtown and 5 minutes from the University. The Frostburg trailhead of the Great Allegheny Passage bike trail is only 5 minutes away.

  • The Henry house is wonderful! immaculately clean and tastefully decorated, the house obviously was built by a craftsperson. The design of the space is a step above. I want to make note to visitors that the house itself faces the road and appears as an unassuming bungalow/cape cod from the front but inside the layout and design are impressive. Never heard a sound from the road in the house and the real focus is the back, the garden, paths to the wonderful pool. The hosts presented us with fresh laundered and folded towels as we arrived. Just a few minutes from downtown Frostburg. We had a great stay

  • Alright , so let me just start off by saying that this place is amazing. The location, the amenities, everything. On top of that, Claudio and Lisa are extraordinary hosts. They provided us with everything we might have needed during our stay. If you ever needed something to help you navigate around the area, the hosts made a guide book that is well-written and easy to follow. From activities to restaurants, that book has it all. We can’t wait to go back and we definitely recommend this place to everyone.

  • This was an absolute perfect experience for my boyfriend and I. We had such a relaxing weekend and had plenty of space for the two of us. The whole house was very clean and organized, the amenities were great and the location was lovely being tucked away in the woods. Definitely coming back in the summer/fall and bringing our dog next time. Would recommend this cabin to couples or families for a nice getaway!

  • Claudio’s place was so great we loved every aspect of it! We wanted to check in a bit earlier on the day we arrived and he let us check in earlier without a problem!

  • We stayed for our anniversary looking for a quiet and relaxing place to spend some time to ourselves. The cabin was exactly what we needed. It was cozy and felt like home from the moment we walked in. And you can't beat the charm of West Virginia. Also, communication was fantastic and there are lots of helpful tips for navigating the house and the area. Huge plus.

  • I can't say enough good things about the cabin, the location, the amenities, the great host communication, the restaurants in the area, etc.! My husband and I wanted to do a quick getaway from Friday to Monday for our birthday weekend (my birthday was Saturday and his was Sunday). On Wednesday, we decided we wanted to go up a night early so I messaged Claudio and he accommodated us and it was not a problem at all. Such quick, easy, good communication. We stopped at Pizza Hut in Hancock on the way up and grabbed a pizza because it was going to be late when we got there. We didn't end up eating until 1:00 in the morning because we explored the house and were so excited at how great it was! We started a fire at the fire pit (we found an old pot planter and scooped a ton of old ashes out and dumped them in the woods. There were 2 big logs that were left on the fire pit so we discarded them by the woods as well) and the fire started right up! It was beautiful and peaceful! The next day my husband took our black lab (LOVED that the cabin is named Retriever's Retreat) down the hill to the brook in the woods. Coming from Maryland's Eastern Shore that is completely flat to climbing the hill after hiding bumpers in the woods for Raven (our lab) was quite a workout but they enjoyed it every morning! We packed a lot into our little retreat and got to experience a lot of local things. We went into town and got a couples massage at the Berkeley Springs State Park Spa, had a few drinks and appetizers (twice) at Tari's and made a few purchases at some of the cute, local shops. On Sunday, we knew we wanted to cook some food and watch football but we got up early and as I was drinking my coffee, I flipped through the book on the table that Claudio has suggestions in and saw that the Farmers Market is in town Sunday's (I think May-October) so we headed up there (it's dog friendly) and picked up some Apple Butter and a ton of other things including fingerling potatoes, husk cherries (which neither of us had ever even heard of), gooseberries, artisan bread and several different flavored jams. We left there and went to Berkeley Springs Brewery which we actually visited Friday, Saturday AND Sunday. I just wanted one more Apple Butter beer. Then we headed back to the cabin and turned on some Raven football. YES, there ARE local channels for those that are wondering!!! We spent the late afternoon in the hammocks and my husband said he was glad we were just laying in them because had we been in them Thursday, that's where he would have stayed all weekend hahaha! The chairs by the fire pit are super comfy too! We didn't use the grill because my husband prefers charcoal but the back deck was nice! We sat out there and played Scattergories (the score cards are almost gone but could easily be photocopied) and listened to music. (There is one deck rail by the grill that looks to be warped but it doesn't hurt the functionality of anything.) The game cabinet was stocked and they have literally thought of everything for this place. I brought Tide Pods and didn't need them because they were there, the linens were great, the bed (we stayed on the main level) was amazing, the AC was on point, the TV's were easy to use, there are Alexa'a in every room, even the light switch on the nightstand in the main level bedroom was convenient and the night light and charging stations are very nice touches. We giggled a little about the bidets on both toilets (only because of our unfamiliarity) but truthfully, we're about to start a bathroom remodel and a bidet might be a must-have! My husband loved his downstairs bathroom and was so happy that the dispenser contained body wash because he forgot his. (It smelled great too!) The extra living room downstairs was nice but we didn't spend any time down there but had there been more than 2 of us, it definitely would have been utilized. We tried to mess with the arcade game a bit but couldn't figure it out. But, there was so much else to do that it didn't matter. We have two minor things. A hose out back would be nice just because in the house rules it says that fires in the fire pit need to be fully distinguished yet there's no way to do that without waiting. It wasn't a problem for us at all, just a suggestion for others. Also, it's a fairly steep hill in the back that you have to haul firewood down, so we suggest having a tarp or a small wheelbarrow on hand or having guests bring one. (Quick note, we left firewood under the deck for the next guests to enjoy!) All in all, we had a wonderful birthday weekend! My husband said I picked the perfect place and it was the best birthday he's ever had (and he's had 36 of them)! Can't wait until next time!

Our rustic modern mountain getaway is available for our guests. We have 24 beautiful acres just south of the Green Ridge State Forest which contains an expanse of 47,000 acres for public use. For nature lovers: hiking, cycling, or just walking the C&O Canal Towpath (near mile-marker 157) is only a few minutes away. Visiting the historic Paw Paw tunnel or kayaking on the Potomac River are other nearby activities only minutes away from our home.
Our home is a cabin with wood ceilings and floors, re-purposed wood work, a fireplace, wood stove, full modern kitchen, and a bathroom. We have three decks surrounded by 24 private wooded acres right off of Gorman Road. We have a gas grill available for guest use. There is one neighbor to the right of the house. Up the mountain, there are no close neighbors.
We have only one neighbor family that you may see; right next door. They live there full time and are very nice, so please be respectful and courteous. They have two dogs that often come over to our home. Ragnar is the large black german shepherd and is a puppy that barks a lot but is not aggresive (he is not allowed in the house). The other dog is a short, fat corgi named Squishy and he used to be our dog. He still thinks he lives there and comes over all the time. If you want to bring him in please talk to the neighbor to make sure they are ok with it.
  • We really enjoyed our stay at the cabin. The wood stove and fireplace were the highlight of our trip. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for a nice retreat into the woods. If was very quiet, and there were lots of birds to see right out the bedroom window.

  • Beautiful house and great location! Make sure you visit Paw Paw tunnel and Cumberland :) Also, you will most likely loose all phone signal withing a 30 min drive radius from the house, make sure you have all the information you need to get into the house written down.

  • We really enjoyed our stay here. It was such a clean, stylish and cozy place. Mathew and Heather were both quite responsive and helpful. They handled perfectly the minor issue we had with bugs at their cottage.

  • This was a wonderful place to have a girl's weekend away. My friends and I live in Baltimore and we wanted to go somewhere away from the city and noise. This beautiful mountain cabin is hidden away, but definitely worth the drive. If you are looking for peace and quiet or away from the city--then this is the place to go. Heather made sure there was everything a person could need while on a trip from little bottles of commentary shampoos or soaps to a hand held mixer which was used to create a wonderful birthday cake. If you decide to stay here, you will not be disappointed. Thank you again!

    Jordan2019-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • A great place to stay. Quiet and remote and very comfortable. I highly recommend.

    Dan2019-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Heather's place was wonderful! It was actually much cuter than the pictures looked - the chairs are amazing and she has a great DVD collection. Overall we had a wonderful time . Just an FYI if you are using Google Maps it will likely tell you to go to the wrong house. Just go by the numbers on the mailbox (her mailbox and the one before hers are clearly labeled so if you don't see a number you are not in the right place). It was about three houses past the one the GPS took us to. Also you may want to bring a few jugs of water - the tap water didn't taste great and the Brita filter seemed a bit old. Water jugs are only a dollar at the dollar general down the road. I would definitely stay there again we had a great experience!

    Annie2019-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • The house is a bucolic secluded place to spend a relaxing weekend or few days. Bring your own food and you'll be so happy that you decided to stay here. Even in winter the hikes were magical and I can only imagine what they would be like in the summer.

  • Beverly's cabin was the perfect getaway for us. The dog had plenty to explore and the cabin had everything we needed for a few days of relaxing in the woods. Beverly was easily communicated with but also had everything well set up for an easy check-in/check out. I would highly recommend her cabin as a place to stay.

The cabin was clean, the kitchen was well outfitted, and the hot tub was great! There is a beautiful view of the river below from the front porch. Would recommend and stay again!

Whether you want a romantic getaway, a family break or a quiet place to write, Long Time Gone Cottage is the perfect spot. Scenic acres. Mountains. River. Eagles. Fire in fireplace. Stars in the sky. Tranquil, peaceful, and private. What else do you need? NOTE: We are deep-cleaning our cabins between guests.
Fully renovated cabin with vintage features. It looks old but everything has been salvaged from somewhere else. Clawfoot tub. Huge screened-in porch. Full kitchen. Two bedrooms in main house with queen beds. Futon in living room. Bunkhouse (you'll need a space heater in winter) has a double bed, double futon and bunk with queen mattress. Three primary beds have pillows and duvets. Bedding needed for rest. PLEASE NOTE: You MUST bring sheets and towels. We don't have washer and dryer facilities and cannot provide linens beyond bedspreads and pillows. Amazing views. A separate bunkhouse where you can stash the kids. Outdoor shower in summer. Phone service and Wifi. Please note there is no TV and no a/c. We are in the mountains where the nights are typically chilly well into June. During the day, breezes come straight off the river and fans will keep you cool on even the hottest days of summer. We like 5-star hotels too, but this isn't one! :-) The cabin is self-catering. We are far away from any major city and unfortunately there is no local trash pick-up. If cleaning up after yourself isn't your cup of tea this isn't the spot for you. We operate on the honor system (although our caretaker drops in after each guest to make sure things are okay) so please leave it as you would hope to find it! Please note that well-behaved pets are welcomed, but must be kept under your control at all times and are not allowed on furniture. The use of firearms, hunting and fireworks are strictly prohibited. PLEASE PLAN TO BRING YOUR BEDDING WHEN YOU ARRIVE AND TAKE YOUR TRASH WITH YOU WHEN YOU LEAVE!
Gated community but doesn't feel like it. Our property is right on the river first surveyed by George Washington. In summer, we have our own beach. Helpful neighbors who aren't around much. Historic sites close by including Paw Paw Tunnel. 40 minutes from ski resorts and hot springs. This is wild and wonderful West Virginia at its finest. The perfect spot to get away from it all. Spend your day floating lazily down the river and your night counting the stars.
  • The Floating E is a beautiful little cabin tucked away in the wilderness. The river views in the morning with steam rising off the Potomac are breathtaking. As is the sunrise shining off the mountain! I am looking forward to booking again as the weather warms up and getting more use out of the screened in porch and campfire area!

  • Leslie's cabin is a neat, quirky little place that offered a great getaway in a pretty nature-full setting. Be prepared to take care of some bugs because it's deep in the woods, but you'll enjoy your stay here!

    Bradley2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is a little gem tucked up in the hills of Paw Paw!! Very cozy, everything was documented well and things were just as Leslie described. The walk to the river was nice, and we enjoyed a fire in the fire pit afterward. I grilled out on the deck and had two cozy nights by the fire. Berkely Springs is nearby and such a quaint little town, I did a rainy afternoon antiquing trip. Definitely will be keeping this property on the list. Don't miss this one!!!

    Janet2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our weekend stay here! Even cold rainy weather couldn't dampen the experience: we explored the area and then warmed up by the fireplace. The place has everything you could need and more - we especially enjoyed the game cabinet with our 6-year-old daughter. It was so welcoming and full of thoughtful touches - we've vowed to return so we can experience it in warmer weather. Highly recommended.

    Rachel2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • If you love seclusion and getting away from the hustle and bustle, this is the pace for you! This is our second time here and we were celebrating our anniversary. We tried to make it a thing and come every year but they were booked this time last year. Making a trip into Berkeley springs is always great if you want get out and We had fun hiking around the Paw Paw tunnel and building fires in the fire place every day—highly recommended!!

  • The house is very comfortable and right in the middle of a university town. We walked to breakfast both days and had fun. You will find the house clean and ready to use!

  • Great location. Very cozy. Everything was too notch. Highly recommend staying here.

    Pamela2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • I have stayed at this property multiple times now and already booked again for an upcoming trip. It's sort of my defacto "home away from home" when I travel to Frostburg. This is a wonderful Civil War era duplex/flat that has all the amenities of home. The host is wonderful and responds quickly to any queries. In all the times I've stayed at this property I've not heard a peep out of the neighbor on the other side. It's very quiet; very restful.

    David2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • One block off of Main Street Frostburg, walkable to many stores and restaurants. Parking is easy and off street, and communication with Mytra was easy through the app. It is an older quirky house, but renovated to everything you need for a stay. We didn’t use the tv/dvd/vcr, but it was very warm for quite a cold weekend. Would recommend.

    Nick2019-11-10T00:00:00Z

Gorgeous 2 story Custom Built Log Cabin in a private setting. Guests have complete privacy downstairs and private entrance and exit with 2 bedrooms, full bathroom, a breakfast bar, coffee, dvd collection and games for entertainment. About 40 mintues from historic Winchester. Come enjoy the tranquility of the country.
1500 sq ft downstairs with patio and seperate entrance. Complete privacy. Peaceful and tranquil country setting. Safe and secure.
We just recently moved here from Maine to be closer to family. We love the seclusion of the mountains, and all the amazing wildlife we see every day, yet we are still close enough to Winchester VA (about 40 mintues) for a little burst of city life.
  • Kim was extremely kind and helpful. The place was cozy and had a great aesthetic. Was the perfect place to unplug, relax, and regroup for the night! Thanks so much for the time Kim!

    Olga2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • Kim’s accommodation was cosy and welcoming. She really took care of us during our stay and her hospitality is exceptional. She served us breakfast daily and also made sure we had snacks in our place the whole time. Overall the place was really clean with a separate access and the neighborhood was homy. There are a few places to explore in and around. More importantly if you are looking for a vacation away from all the hustle and bustle this place should fit the bill perfectly!

  • I had a wonderful time! Everything exceeded my expectations of the place. The cabin was perfect inside and out. It is situated in a peaceful setting with gorgeous views of the mountains. You can breath clean air anywhere you turn. I loved to take walks around the area! Philip, the property Manager, was very welcoming, and always responded quickly to my inquires. I felt welcomed from the beginning to the end. I will definitely be back. If you are looking to have a relaxing week in a little piece of heaven, this is the place to book! (This is a Hidden Jewel).

    Ana2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Phillip was very communicative and helpful throughout our stay. We booked the cabin for a work retreat, and it was exactly what we hoped for.

    Alysia2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Su's place is beautiful and very peaceful . Philip is wonderful host and is always available to help. Su has a great collection of books. I would recommend this place to anybody who is looking for serene place to relax or meditate. Thanks Su and Philip to let me stay at you place. I will hopefully be back next year!

    Surinder2019-12-07T00:00:00Z
  • An absolutely amazing and beautiful place to stay. One of the most peaceful areas and a beautiful view to go along with it. Philip was wonderful in making sure we had everything we needed.

    Lauren2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • I was taking a class in the vicinity, and wanted a place for quiet self reflection. The cabin is a bit on the small side and somewhat remote, but very cosy and private. Waking up each day to watch the sun rise over the mountains was icing on the top.

    Nathaniel2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Our second time here and we loved this beautiful mountain stay just as much as the first time! If you want privacy, this is the place to stay. If you want fresh mountain air, beautiful sunsets, sunrises, and peace and quiet, you have found the right place in this beautiful mountain and cabin. My only suggestion is to go slow on the gravel roads (15mph)...I was lovingly chastised for kicking up too much dust, by an elderly gentleman, and he got no argument from me, as he was 100% right. I was low on gas (should have gotten it when we were in town the night before) so was in a hurry to get to a gas station. I am glad he stopped me as I only hope to be surrounded by love on this mountain. The wildlife was wonderful to see...bucks, does, and fawn were a daily occurence. Cannot say enough about this wonderful place, and the host, Phillip, is such a kind soul, and such a joy to talk to. He is very prompt in his replies and even stops in once a week to see how you are enjoying your stay. This wonderful cabin is 5 star for it's beautiful scenery, serenity, and peace.

    Kathy2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Gorgeous little cabin tucked away in the beautiful "Wild and Wonderful" mountains of West Virginia. It was the perfect spot for a 2nd honeymoon, secluded and romantic! The view is absolutely breathtaking. Location Location Location.... complete and total "Zen." We overpacked, as there are so many amenities we didn't need a fraction of the items that we brought with us. The cabin is Pristine and includes everything imaginable; it is extremely well appointed and stocked to: live, cook, relax, sleep, and bathe. Our host Philip made our experience truly memorable. He greeted us with a big smile and a bigger basket packed with an assortment of fruits, cheese and crackers, he is such a sweet and caring host! Check-in was seamless. Philip took the time to show us what we needed to know on how to operate everything. If you enjoy wildlife this is the place for you. It is located on a dead end road on top of a mountain. Deer are everywhere!! We were sitting on our covered front porch watching families (a herd) grazing, Bucks, Does and an abundant amount of fawns. We saw Fox Eagles Hawks.... so amazing. The pictures do not do this cabin justice. We could easily see several mountain ranges away and a blazing sunset every evening. One afternoon we saw a storm approaching approximately 50 miles away, what a sight to behold mother nature arriving, the view kept changing as the moments were ticking by. A tourist hint: a must see in the area is located in Romney West Virginia The Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad Train tour. Tip: Spring for the 1st class ticket you will get an incredible meal prepared by a chef comfortable seating and air conditioning as well as access to the entire train. We would like to thank our host Philip for this serene memorable week. We can't wait to come back for another week, actually we would like to experience all 4 seasons on top of that West Virginia mountain.

    Doris2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • Where to start? First, Su's cabin has spectacular views! The pictures do not do it justice. Second, Phillip, Su's brother who manages the property was beyond kind. He knew I was coming to decompress after my dad's death. He met me with a basket of fruit and invited me to dinner at his house with friends that night. That may not be "part of the package" but it was so welcomed after eight very difficult weeks. Su also stopped by before her trip and we had a lovely chat. I felt so welcomed and supported. The cabin is lovely, not fancy but it has everything you need. If you've been to Asia, you will come to understand a new meaning of "sparkling clean." Did I mention the views? Additionally, as a Buddhist and an energy healer, there is such good energy in the cabin and on the land. I spent several days in silent retreat and I could feel the energy vibrating from the land. It is truly a very special place and I am so grateful to Phillip and Su! I will definitely be back.

  • We had an amazing time and it truly was a peaceful getaway. Everything we needed was super close and it still felt so private with such a beautiful view! Felt like our own home away from home. 🖤 It's clean but you are in a cabin in the woods so there is still some rustic aspect to it. All in all, great sweet place and I love the purpose behind it all.

    Sheila2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay. Very good view. Fairly urban.

    Neal2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • What a great little private get away. Perfect for 2! Feels like youhave your own mountain but still only 2 mins away from anything you need. Dave and Paulette were very responsive to our questions. They own a bagel and coffee shop in town called Holy Grounds. They even left us a coupon for free bagels! Plenty of restaurants to choose from nearby. We are at Rio Grands and Texas Grillhouse and visited the 1812 Brewery. It was pretty cold this weekend but the baseboard electric heat kept the cabin toasty warm. There is no wifi but our Verizon connection was perfect the whole stay. If you take a shower, you might need to let it run for a few mins to get steady water flow but after that it was fine. Great views from the porch. Wish it had been clearer as there was a meteor shower and it's so dark there that it would have been a perfect location to view from. All in all, a great stay and a great value. We'd definitley stay again. Thanks Dave and Paulette!!

    Mike2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommend! Beautiful view and many things to do around the area. Definitely going back.

    Amber2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • Hidden gem of absolute beauty. Great views right from the front porch. Host was very accommodating!

    Kristy2019-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • This place truly is secluded, you can walk around outside naked if so desired with very little chance of being seen. The views are breathtaking, it was a true joy sipping coffee in the morning in the porch and just enjoying the mountain views. And there are the occasional wildlife that visit you, like the deer that passed by the area. Despite how private it is, it is remarkably close to conveniences. Literally 5 min from walmart and restaurants and various shopping. Since we forgot to pack some things, being able to shop for food and other necessities close-by was very nice. I and my girlfriend definitely recommend this place! We hope to come back in the future!

    John2019-06-03T00:00:00Z
  • Great place

    Tammy2018-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • The rental was in a COMPLETELY private location yet still 3 minutes from Walmart, restaurants, movie theater, etc., which was perfect. It was small but perfect for my needs, cozy, heating worked perfectly, kitchen was great. Wi-Fi is available but doesn't really work at all, but that's fine because it was listed without Wi-Fi for this exact reason. Everything was as expected and perfect!

    Rebekah2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • All I wanted was a remote place to enjoy some trees and a fire mid-winter. It was really tricky to find something that fit the bill but when I came across this place, I was immediately in. The cabin is beautifully situated, away from town but within striking distance. It’s in a flat clearing, with a few other houses which are far enough away to still give the sense of seclusion. The cabin was tidy and well maintained, all the basics you need. Plus there was a festive bouquet of fresh flowers—a lovely touch. Pete was great to work with. We were warm despite chilly temps and the location is beautiful. We meant to explore but ended up being so happy at the place we stuck close. We enjoyed sitting by the stove at night the river in the morning. Can’t wait to return during a different season.

    Marita2020-02-17T00:00:00Z

Free WI-FI now available. Our place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers and families (with kids). The Cottage is a quaint, Cape Cod style house built in 1950. It sits high on a hill in the heart of Maryland's Appalachian Mountains in Allegany County. It is surrounded by views of Wills Mountain and Shrivers Ridge. The Cottage sits amongst a 652 acre family managed forest. Visitors have spotted deer, turkey, rabbits, squirrels, black bear and a multitude of song birds.
Vistors have listened to coyotes, whippoorwill and woodcock while resting on the screened-in back porch. The house is filled with lovely family heirlooms. Custom artwork by the owner of Mockingbird Studio is displayed throughout the place and available for purchase by talking to the owners of the cottage.
It is a quiet, county, residential neighborhood with views of the mountains, fields and forest.

The kitchen is well stocked with coffee, tea, etc. The bedrooms are clean and comfortable. Our children loved the little toys scattered around for them to find: a bear on the bed, etch a sketch on a table, coloring books in the upstairs bedroom. We will be back.

  • Lovely getaway, charmingly appointed with amenities for all needs. Great communication with hosts. Felt remote (in a good way) but only about a 12 min ride into historic Cumberland. Would definitely recommend.

  • Clean space, prompt contact with the hosts, wonderful mountain views, still close to town!

20 super private acres 2.5 hours outside of DC. House is 1000 feet off the road and invisible to passers by. Unplug for the weekend and enjoy total solitude with the convenience of being 15 minutes from town. No WiFi in the house but iPhone users can stream to the 55” TV + the house boasts a collection of movies. Ask about early check in. If no one is checking out the same day, early check in is no problem!
The house is totally private and has a back deck that overlooks the treed valley. Perfect for late night sipping wine and enjoying the peace and quiet of a wooded retreat. House also has a fire pit so BYOSmoresMaterial.
Though the house is completely private—the town is only about 12 minutes away where you will find a grocery store, and a few eateries. Further down the road is an old antique store and a hometown dinner.
  • Great place to get away. Back in the country with a beautiful sunrise view in the morning. Very quiet and secluded. Excellent for a great weekend retreat or longer just to step back from day to day life. Julie is a wonderful host. We had everything we needed. Just what we wanted for our stay. Hope to come back again soon.

  • My husband and I, our 9 year old son, and our dog all had a wonderful stay over Presidents Weekend. The cabin is close enough to enjoy the area, but still off the beaten path enough to enjoy some wilderness seclusion. Thank you Julie!

  • I had a great time at Harriet’s Hollow. The studio was very nicely decorated and the perfect size for myself, my boyfriend, and our dog. We enjoyed ourselves very much, it was so private! You really do get 100% privacy at this place!!! We definitely plan on coming back during the summertime. I would recommend this place to anyone!

  • We had an awesome stay! Lovely host, housekeeper, and place. We will for sure return!

    Shaylin2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely perfect getaway. The dog loved it. The baby loved it. And mom and dad got some much needed rest! Verizon is one bar and less than 3G here, so don’t expect to be streaming Netflix, but Julie has an impressive list of movies and some great books as well. We were even able to have a small fire and sip some wine. Previous guests have generously stocked the bath with toiletries and the kitchen with basic spices and oils. A real home away from home.

  • My wife and I stayed here during our transition move between homes. So many great things to comment on. First and greatest is the hospitality and kindness from Julie. She went above and beyond to make us comfortable and help us. Awesome, private and very quiet location with wildlife right outside. Being able to stay with our pets as we traveled was huge and the house is extremely pet friendly. Very nice, clean and homey inside. Felt like we stayed at a family members home. If we didn’t live right down the road now, we would stay again. We will definitely recommend to our friends and family that visit and may want their own space. Thank you again so much Julie! Best Airbnb we’ve stayed in!

  • Lovely, quiet, well appointed kitchen and lots of coziness. Far from everything but not too far from the grocery store. Julie is a great host.

  • The cabin is easy to locate on top of the hill which gives you an amazing view to enjoy the sunset ... Well... Anytime of day. The house was very clean and well organized. The host had everything setup for 5 of us including a bottle of wine and 5 glasses which made us very happy and meant a lot to us. Definitely a worthy trip and highly recommend it.

  • Beautiful cabin, clean. Jim is a thoughtful host and provides everything you need for a WV weekend!

    Jamie2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Great Views and amazing hospitality. Couldn’t ask for a better retreat. Hot tub wasn’t as hot as we would have liked it but that was probably due to the cold outside weather (16°). No real complaints everything was just as it were advertised. Everything need was in a 10-15min drive down the road. Well definitely try to come back in the summer months.

  • FANTASTIC!!! We had a wonderful week of rest, relaxation, peace and quiet. This is the perfect place to get away from everything and just enjoy sitting on the porch with a cup of coffee and the sunrise. We are looking forward to our next visit.

  • This is a wonderful find and getaway from normal life. Overlooking a valley in the middle of the Appalachian Mountains and stocked with everything you need for a getaway (towels/linens/full kitchen). Philip, the property caretaker lives nearby and was very communicative/supportive of us as we stayed there. A wonderful place to reflect/getaway; I highly recommend it!
