  • Roca Verde was amazing! Jay's place is just as described, though the pictures don't do the view justice at all. It is clean and open and airy, and had more than enough space for me and two of my friends! Atenas was a great little town, but without a car you'll be relying on taxis or walking (the house is at the top of a STEEP hill, so be wary!) We utilized the kitchen quite a bit, which was nice because it was stocked with great things already. We didn't interact with Jay too much, but he lives very close and always responds quickly to emails, so we knew he'd be of help if needed. My favorite thing about the house was definitely the beds. They were SO comfortable. We got spoiled by them and compared our following beds constantly. Overall, it was a very very nice start to our vacation and we would easily stay there again if in the area! :)

  • We had so much fun!

  • Casa Bella was tough for me to summarize in a review. The views are nearly unparalleled, and many aspects of the stay were above our expectations. Robert and Christian were fantastic hosts and provided plenty of great tips for staying in the area, and even helped fill the refrigerator with goodies before our stay. The property has many really appealing features as well, such as an open design, very large rooms, and modern fixtures. On the other hand, some things just didn't seem to come together as they could have. Some of these could have been easily remedied by us reaching out to the cleaning person but we decided not to do so as we were only staying a few days. The wi-fi was spotty and did not work on the part of the property with the spectacular views. The hot water was hot about 80% of the time, and the sliding glass door didn't lock as easily as we wished. The property also has some termite and ant issues. I think the biggest disappointment for us was the condition of the outside furniture on the upper lookout area. The cushions are pretty worn through and it made it such that we didn't even want to sit on them. Overall, it was a positive experience for us. Some minor changes, perhaps even visiting in dryer months than we did, would have made this a great place.

  • Our stay in Casa Bella was a last minute plan and were very pleased with our stay in this house. The house itself is located on a mountain (very high mountain) and within a private residence neighborhood. Jay was very attentive in responding promptly to my messages and provided information on places to dine, relax, and explore. As other reviewers have mentioned, the house is clean, beds are extremely comfortable, and you are welcomed to a home equipped with fruits, chocolates, drinks, and breakfast essentials. While we did not get to meet Jay directly, Wendy the host was the sweetest and very resourceful as Jay was. Our family relaxed and enjoyed the picturesque views from the house. It is about a 30 minute drive to airport (using the new main highway). Definitely enjoyed our stay here and highly recommend to anyone visiting the San Jose area.

    Carol2015-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • We staid at Jay's property our first night in Costa Rica and all I can say is WOW! The house and the views are breathtaking, specially at night. This is the PERFECT place if you want to stay in the hills and have privacy yet still be close to town. Also, I met Christian who gave us our keys, he's really friendly! Bottom line, love love love!

    Elaine2016-04-11T00:00:00Z
  • Our host left fresh fruit, eggs, bread, milk, coffee, water & beers, this was a nice touch.

    Michael2016-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • Jay was awesome and the home was exactly as described. The views are amazing and the beds are super comfortable.

    Joseph2016-06-22T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommend staying at Casa Bella! Our host provided bread, eggs, fruit and chocolate. Very thoughtful gesture, which was highly appreciated. The whole house was clean. Had amazing views. Weather was very pleasant as it is located in a higher elevation. Felt very safe. I can go on and on, ill just state that i would def stay here again. :)

    Atenas Canton, Alajuela, Costa Rica

Beautiful, private villa with a fabulous ocean view and a secluded, infiniti pool. Very popular villa with both honeymooners and retired people. It is a prvate subdivision with 26 villas with support from rental manager and other staff. The villa is almost equal distant from both Liberia - LIR and San Jose - SJO airports. I believe it is easier to drive south from Liberia airport on a straight, scenic and paved highway.
The 3500 square feet villa is on a very private, 2/3 acre lot with ocean and rain forest views. The beautiful swimming pool is partially shaded by a picturesque "Corteza Amarillo" tree. The villa has "Almond Wood" hardwood floors in the living area including bedrooms. The full kitchen has black granite counter tops. All appliances, pots, silverware, china and coffeemaker are included in the kitchen. The gazebo has both gas Bar-B-Q and 4 burner cook-top with ocean views. Master bathroom has 2 large bowl sinks, large tub, bidet and large windows with a view of the rain forest. The house a large, flat screen TV, amplifier with whole house, surround sound, speaker system. The house has 10 fans and air conditioning. The large master bedroom has a king bed and the second spacious suite has a full bath with two queen beds. The house is on a hill top with wonderful 120 degree views of Nicoya bay and the hilltop location gives one a unique sense of Privacy with no neighbor to look in. The subdivision is 3 miles from the ferry station but it is advisable to rent an SUV so short day trips to Nicoya, Samarra, Carillo, Tambor, Paqueras ( Tortuga island snorkeling ) can be done. Renters have access to a near by grocery and liquor store. The store also provides DVDs and books free of charge. Concierge service is also included. The "Roma del Mar" development has 2 private beaches and a private pier for fishing. There are numerous beaches close by (Playa Blanca 5 kms away) and a golf course at the Tambor Bay. A one time payment of $100 is required for cleaning the villa both before and after the rental. All day maid for cooking is available through the manager and a massage specialist manicurist/ pedicurist available - reservations through management. . The internet access and the router is free. Location Description: Playa Naranjo, Puntarenas, Costa Rica (next to Cabo Blanco on (website hidden) map), Central America. Fly to Liberia Airport (Code: LIR). Two hours drive from Liberia airport and 5 minute drive from Puntarenas/Playa Naranjo Ferry.
The neighborhood is private, quite and away from busy tourist spots with plenty of things to do in the area. Our rental manager has a long list of optional tours
  • This is the first time I used Airbnb and hit the jackpot. Raj was a perfect host from afar. This property is exactly as you see in the photos. I would call it a "Slice of Heaven". I was a little concerned visiting Costa Rica for the first time and staying in a remote area but we were well taken care of. Arlene, the property manager, is fantastic and speaks English. She booked excursions for us. I would definitely book the boat trip snorkeling then on to Tortuga Island with lunch! That was our favorite. Also plan on doing some cooking, the kitchen has everything needed and the market is very convenient. We woke up for the sunrise every morning and did yoga on the deck. A few things that we didn't realize as a "first timer"; The time of year, we were expecting to see GREEN but arrived the last week in March (Dry season) mostly brown. It was still wonderful and NO Bugs. Just not the rain forest I envisioned. However, we were able to see lots of birds, the Karen Morgensen Reserve was green and the hike to the waterfall was fun, we had monkey sightings and admired several varieties of butterflies. Birds visit the pool for a drink. We enjoyed the Parrots flying by the villa and the iguana's roaming. We used US dollars which everyone accepted, and it was fairly easy to calculate. $1.00 = 500 colones. OH.. Don't forget to book a massage with Anja, she was fantastic. It was like a dream on the deck with the view.. (Get the body scrub too) Raj will forward her information to you, I suggest you book it via email directly with her. I wish I booked 10 days instead of 7, the villa was so beautiful I wanted to stay and relax. There is a bit of construction going on, however except for a few trucks going by you can't hear anything.. No worries. Check out the Black Pearl restaurant on the water, but plan on cooking too. Find out when the store receives fresh fruit/veg deliveries and the pastry truck comes once a week too. This is not a "Resort", we very much enjoyed the beauty in a quiet setting without the touristy vibe. We loved our experience and Raj was the best host. Thank you Raj and Airbnb! Pura Vida!

    Sue2015-03-28T00:00:00Z
  • We wanted to thank Raj for the beautiful Villa, it was by far the highlight of our vacation. The home is even more beautiful then the pictures on airbnb and we just couldn't get enough of the views from the back yard overlooking the bay. We used the home as a base from which we took daily excursions and it worked perfect since the ferry to Puntarenas is a 5 minute drive. Having said that, Arlene is the care taker for the Villa and she was wonderful in helping us book different activities like ziplining through the rainforest, horseback ridding, kayaking, name it...so much to do in Costa Rica. We would absolutely recommend this home for a vacation and would not hesitate to come back in the future, it was wonderful! Stefan and Jillian

    Stefan2015-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at the Ocean Front Villa for the first two weeks in August and had an unforgettable time. Villa was as described and even better! Raj was easily accessible and had given us some great suggestions for what to visit. We can highly recommend this Villa for anyone who is planing trip to Costa Rica.

    Lilian2016-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I rented the villa for six days and it absolutely took our breath away! The view alone is totally worth the trip. Raj and Arlene were very prompt and professional in their responses to our inquiries and provided all of the necessary information before our arrival. They also gave great suggestions on how to make the best of our stay. We would highly recommend a pool-side massage by Anja, and eating at the local restaurants. Although there is much to do in Costa Rica, this is also a great location for just putting your feet up and total relaxation! The infinity pool is a wonderful amenity, and we found ourselves using it several times a day. Roma Del Mar's beach is also very beautiful, and because of its exclusivity, is easily accessible at all times of the day. We personally suggest a day trip to Playa Samara (about 1.5 hours' drive away) and Playa Blanca (about 5 km from the property). These are two amazing beaches, that you will not want to miss out on! Also, even though you will be reminded to rent a 4x4 vehicle for the trip, we urge everyone to not take this advice lightly! Raj and Arlene, you two are awesome! And we hope to come back sometime in the near future...thank you!

  • We had an amazing time in Costa Rica, and Raj's palace was the best possible place to stay. Convenient market one minute away with food and booze, multiple beaches close by, very helpful staff, amazing home with mind blowing view, surrounded by nature and animals, safe, music speakers wired in every room and backyard, great place for watching movies... the list could go on and on but you'll just have to go see it for yourself..!!

    Scott2014-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • The pool and the view were really spectacular. The scorpion on my bed and insects all over and in the house and everywhere was not. With some attention to maintenance this place would be great.

    Mark2017-11-08T00:00:00Z
  • Raj has a beautiful villa that is very private and comfortable. My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon and it was perfect for us. And Raj was amazing with suggestions and advice about where to go and what to do around Costa Rica. I highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to go to a quiet and scenic area of CR. My wife and I loved it!

    Jay2014-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed every minute of our relaxing stay at the villa! Raj provided many good tips on sights to see along the way, places in the area to visit, as well as a detailed map with photos on how to find the villa. The villa is even prettier than the photos! Laying by the pool all day, watching the ferry pass by, and seeing the beautiful birds made for a most relaxing week! We met several of the wonderful neighbors, including the property managers/developers and were even invited to a neighborhood dinner party with amazing local foods and a mariachi band! Do not overpack! You don't need a suitcase full of clothes, just flip flops, water shoes or Teva type sandal to walk to the beach and a pair of shorts and a sarong to lounge by the pool in. There is a wonderful onsite grocery store with fresh produce arriving on Thursdays. We grilled local shrimp and fresh chicken on the outdoor BBQ, made pitchers of tropical drinks and enjoyed relaxing music from our iPhones through the whole house speaker system every day. One evening we placed candles all around the edge of the pool and enjoyed an evening swim. The private beach is a 3 min walk and it is beautiful! I called it Shell beach, because it is not sand, it is entirely little crushed and miniature shells, just beautiful! We will definitely be back to this villa! Thank you Raj and everyone at Roma Del Mar!

Santa Fe style home, twice in Architectural Digest of Costa Rica. Acres of gorgeous gardens, 40 ft waterfall, 20 min from airport. 15 acres of private forest. Internet access. 3+ bedrooms 2 1/2 bath, office. Beautiful kitchen. Driver available. Gardener can help take you to the waterfall on the property. Great local restaurants, look at airbnb guidebook. Early check in possible some days, $10 fee given to guard so they come early. Read the airbnb house manual for good tips, very important!
Santa Fe style home, with rare recycled woods. Acres of beautiful gardens, view of valley. Smell of jasmine and gardenias. 15 acres of included forest and 40ft waterfall, yet only 20 min to airport! Mi Kiva was designed by a famous architect that created very warm feeling by using recycled rare rosewood and other wood and 100+ year old tile in some locations to add texture and visual interest. Mi Kiva has a sensory surprise around every corner, and is super relaxing.
Other neighboring beautiful executive homes form a close-knit neighborhood. Safe, no crime. Many neighbors have purchased acres of forest across the creek/river. In addition to our 15 acres, the others combine to be some of the last original forest in the area so close to San Jose. Mi Kiva sits on 2 acres with executive homes bordering with similar lot sizes. There is a small bridge that gives access to the adjoining Mi Kiva owned property that has paths and is rain forest. Poas and La Paz Waterfall gardens nearby. With cautious speeds 45 minutes drive. Zip lining and hiking available on Barva, or hike the property.
  • Really easy to reserve the place. Upon arrival the caretaker was there to greet us and showed us around the property. It was our second time there, it is an awesome property with a magical feeling of an enchanted forest. The sound of the waterfall is constant background reminder you are in Nature. Architecture to delight the sense of spaciousness and comfort. We'll be coming back many more times. Thank you

  • Gerald was very helpful in communicating over email and very responsive. We had a quick welcome call once we arrived. Mi Kiva is a beautiful and unique place. The yard and the path in the back is really beautiful with an awesome view over the valley into the city lights. It was great for New Year's to see all the fireworks, too! Don't miss some star gazing and smelling the scents in the evening. As it was just the two of us, the house was big and we did not use the whole right side of the home. We enjoyed the Master bedroom and large dining room the most on the inside. We had one ride from Maikol, who is also the guard back into San Jose to pick up our luggage and car (travel delays) which was $28 US. Maikol was kind and we navigated the conversations in broken Spanish and English. Honest feedback: There is a definite uniqueness and charm to being at this place, and there was a higher price due to staying during the holiday period. That higher value did not seem to be commensurate with the place/experience compared to other places that I have been to during the holiday season.

    Christine2016-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • A breathtaking home. Having the opportunity to stay here was an absolute gift. These kinds of treasures are what make AirBnB so good. It was also nice that Gerald was so kind, helpful and communicative. Great stay.

    Geoff2015-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • This property was an idyllic place to start our vacation. The photographs truly don't do it justice. It was huge for us as we were travelling alone as a couple, but it also felt intimate and inviting too. The house is beautifully maintained and situated in a perfect combination of well manicured garden paths extending into a lush and pretty rainforest hike near a river and waterfall. We made friends with the neighbor's sweet dog Minnie and she cleverly visited each morning for pets and love, making it feel just like home. The neighbor was very kind and sprang into action when we could not open the mechanical gate when a very intense thrunderstorm knocked out the power for a couple of hours. The mini mart at the base of the hill was perfect for saving a little vacation cash and just making breakfast with some local cheese and eggs. And the restaurant at the bottom of the hill was just as accommodating when we came for a drink and hot meal during that short power outage. This was my favorite airbnb property yet and I have a feeling I'll be thinking and dreaming about our stay here for some time to come! I certainly don't usually have acres of forest and hummingbirds in my backyard at home. Wish we could have stayed longer!

    Ingrid2017-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely beautiful home! Take time to enjoy and explore the beautiful property. Don't miss the sweet town of Santa Barbara. Just an amazing retreat.

    Amanda2017-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Its a beutifull house for relaxing ! Best if you bring a car or supplies to have a fantastic stay. It's a great place with a great host!

    Ana Maria2017-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • Gerald's home is sprawling and lovely. The gardens and trail out back are like something from a movie. It's conveniently quite close to La Paz waterfall gardens, which is why we booked if for out first night. Would love to stay here again!

    Amy2016-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • We chose Mi Kiva because we were so intrigued with the house and property, which certainly lived up to our expectations. The place is beautiful. The three days we spent there were so relaxing, just staying there, wandering in the gardens, finding the waterfall, relaxing in the house. we did walk some in the beautiful neighborhood and enjoyed two dinners at Las Espuelas, walking both times from the house. Outside of the house, I'm not sure it was the best area for us. We weren't quite prepared for driving the narrow and precipitous roads. If you are looking for an area with lots of nearby attractions, you might want to investigate another situation.

  • Stayed 10 days with andy at his gorgeous hillside villa. My husband and I rented a 4 wheeler for the entrie time as it was a very steep hill to walk up on a regular basis due to the heat and elevation of the hill. Well worth the climb. Juan was Amdy's concierge who made the trip so easy and organized for outings that he arranged for us. Snorkelling, surfing lessons, horse back riding., anyting..you want to try he can arrange in a days notice for a fair rate. Monkeys calling in the evening and swinging from the trees was an added wonder to see. Very gracious host and his friends were the same. Great experience for our first trip to Costa Rica! Cathy and Dave Epple

    Cathy 2012-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • The villa was amazing! Beautiful view, comfortable space, kitchen had everything we needed. The property manager Crystal was great, she helped get our rental car picked up, gave us restaurant recommendations, hung out with us sometimes, and generally gave good advice about the town. The whole experience was great! Like others, I would recommend renting an ATV. It is a lot of fun and the best way to get around the town.

    Jessica2013-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • My girlfriend and I had an awesome week at Andy's place. It really is as great as the pictures make it look. Andy was very helpful and super communicative. We got simple to follow instructions on how to get there from Liberia, and also how to get to San Jose when we left. Andy wasn't there while we stayed, but Juan was and he was super helpful and friendly and a nice guy. We actually found out during our stay that we had to leave a day early and Andy was great about it, giving us a refund for the extra night even though he wouldn't be able to rent it to someone else at such short notice. Thanks Andy, you are a legend! You should stay here if you come to Santa Teresa, it's a great place. If you stay, a 4x4 is a great idea as the access road is majorly steep (hence the great views). Rooms are big and have a couple of beds so could fit a bunch of people, but was very comfy for the two of us. We were upstairs, and the 'common' area of the deck was so pretty and great place to relax after a day of surfing. Hammocks and the house dog were also awesome. We grilled fish on the bbq a few nights which was perfect. Definitely recommend this place and would stay here again! You won't regret it.

  • We've stayed in many an AirBnB places and they are usually warm and friendly, as Cota and Andrew are. They are genuinely nice and give excellent recommendations on where to eat. The photos of their place look astoundingly beautiful but fail to capture what you see and feel when you arrive, I mean after you catch your breath from the steep uphill climb. Don't let this deter you tho it's more than worth it! The stunning views are a captivating euphoria. Beholding the majesty of being on the mountain top like you're flying over the jungle while looking out over the ocean is in itself a transcendent experience. The sunsets are a magical journey of tranquil introspection and newfound appreciation for all that is nature. The sounds of the jungle life at night were amazing, we seriously got some of the best sleep of our lives. It's truly an unforgettable experience which I will treasure for all of my days. The kind of place you will tell your grandkids about. We will definitely be returning for another stay here!

    Ruth2017-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! The pictures of the view do not do it justice. I extended my stay from 1 week to 2 weeks. The sunsets overlooking the Pacific are unreal, serene, and soothing to my soul. San Diego, Malibu, or Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica don't hold a candle to this view. It is very quiet and serene. Off the main road and away from the hustle of Santa Teresa. Locals are super friendly. This town is obviously a surfing mecca. Andrew is quick to communicate and accommodate. Crystal and Juan were also very helpful. My room was cleaned every other day. I had access to a nice washer and dryer. Internet works great, the fastest during my month traveling here. Showers were always hot. The beds were very comfortable. Here is the real skinny about the hill to the villas; I had no problem getting up and down with a Toyota Yaris (2 wheel drive) dry and during heavy rain (I stayed here during the rainy season - Aug & Sept). Juan fills in potholes after rain. 90% this hill is paved. I also ran every other day. The hill is steep in a couple spots but not a big deal. It is a short 3 - 5 min drive to all restaurants, grocery, and other attractions in Santa Teresa. Super La Hacienda (grocery) is a block away at the bottom of the hill. The beach is 100 yards from the bottom of the hill. Love The Bakery for breakfast. Zula Restaurant was a staple for me. Burger Rancho, Casa del Mar, Chicken Joes are all great as well. A local named Jack ((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)) will deliver just about anything from local restaurants to grocery. Al Capone Delivery on (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN).

  • Our stay at Surf Vista Villas could not have been more relaxing. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of life and be reminded of how wonderful and peaceful the simple life can be. We didn't have much of an opportunity to interact with Andy as he was away for most of our stay but he was extremely friendly when we did see him. Juan was great as well. He gave us great recommendations - zip lining in Mal Pais and hiking to the waterfalls in Montezuma- both of which I'd highly recommend to anyone coming to visit! Travel wise, I would recommend driving or taking a flight to Tambor and then a cab to Santa Teresa. We flew into San Jose, took a 30 minute Sansa flight ($105) to Tambor and then a cab ($50) to Surf Vista Villas. We originally planned to go the budget route and take the $12 bus but are so happy we didn't in retrospect. We saved 5 hours of travel time. Also, the roads are mostly unpaved so driving across the peninsula is not the most pleasant, especially if you tend to experience motion sickness. We didn't rent a car but I'd highly recommend renting an ATV for your stay. The walk up and down the hill is an adventure. You will definitely be sweating after your walk up the hill to the villas. Also, if you plan on walking down to the main road and up again to the villas at night be sure to have a flashlight. It is very dark and Andy didn't have a flashlight. Luckily we installed flashlight apps on our phones which worked :) Other tips: pack bug spray and itch relief spray! We got really bitten up, especially at night when we were sleeping. Go to the soda (Soda Tiquica, I think) right near Surf Vista Villas. It is one of the best sodas in town and the food is tasty, hearty, and very affordable. The restaurant, Al Chile Viola, just to the right of SVV when you get to the main roads is also nice. A little pricey, but a nice setting and they have life music on Monday nights. Great if you don't want to venture far for dinner...

Stay in a cozy 1 BR or 2 BR, upscale Costa Rican-style bungalows with a pristine pool at your doorstep. Look out over the trees to the Pacific ocean from your private balcony and listen to the birds and howler monkeys that call the gardens of Casa Tranquila home.
This one-bedroom architect-designed bungalow comes fully equipped for short stays and month-long getaways. It's perfect for honeymooners or families with up to two kids, as well as small groups of friends. The kitchenette has everything you'll need to eat at home if you wish. The bungalow has a comfy bed, air conditioning throughout, a daybed that fits two people in the living space. The bathroom has a huge glassed-in shower with a big window to the gardens, where monkeys pass regularly. Just outside your door is a cool swimming pool and wooden deck for relaxing, as well as plenty of hammocks. Casa Tranquila was designed with sustainability in mind. The property takes advantage of sea breezes for passive cooling, minimizing the need for A/C. The gray water from your bungalow feeds into the trees and other plants that surround the property instead of washing into the ocean.
Casa Tranquila is located on a hill in a quiet, residential neighborhood of Tamarindo – far enough from the busy downtown that you won't be kept awake by the parties but close enough that you're just a 10 minute walk away from the center of town or 14 minutes to the beach.
  • I stayed here in February 2013 and again in February 2014. It really is such a tranquil setting. Plants, flowers, (some wildlife), and a terrific swimming pool with a couple of hammocks… perfecto! With a cool breeze at night, a chill pool during the day and a short walk to town, Casa Tranquila has everything I need to kick back and relax. José and Erin are terrific… very friendly and always helpful.

  • WOW! We loved our stay at Casa Tranquila. Nicely secluded, we felt very welcome and at home. Our hosts were very nice and made sure we were welcomed the moment we arrived. We had fun sitting by the pool watching the iguanas and listening to and searching for the howler monkeys. Town and beach were a pleasant walk away.

  • Yes, Jose greeted us at the gate and walked us to the bungalow. The dog was so sweet and slept by the bungalow.

  • Jose's place was our first stop on our honeymoon in Costa Rica and it couldn't have been more welcoming. It's about a 15-20 minute walk from the main strip / beach in Tamarindo, with a large hill at the end. It was fairly easy for two in-shape people, but be aware. At night there are unlit portions of the walk, so having a flashlight was helpful. We did not have a car and had no trouble getting to/from anywhere we wanted to go in town. The bunaglow (we stayed in the smaller one) had everything we needed: towels, a small kitchen with dishes, bathroom, and large bedroom with A/C (which we used each night, in November). At night there were ants on the floor but they were harmless and gone by morning. The pool and grounds are awesome, and the entire property is secured by a gate (and two lovable pooches). Jose lives on site, and was incredibly friendly and helpful whenever we needed him. We would certainly stay with Jose again if we ever returned to Tamarindo.

  • Casa Tranquila was excellent and the perfect place to rest and relax while in Tamarindo. The bungalow is close to town but just far enough away to feel private and calming. The grounds really remind you that you are in Costa Rica! We loved the pool, which was basically our own private oasis. Jose was an extraordinary host. He was responsive and had wonderful suggestions for activities and restaurants. He recommended a great place to zip line (very near to the house) and we had a blast. Jose's dog, Guapa, also added to our stay-she greeted us every night and walked us to our front door! Overall, we couldn't have asked for anything more!

    Ben2016-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • I never got to meet Jose, but he gave great directions on how to get into the bungalow. His place is beautiful, there are a few hammocks, a pool, a fire pit, and a dog (choc. lab maybe). He lives in the main house and there are two bungalows. The bungalow is incredibly comfortable for 2-3 people... we had 4 and it was good for us because we were two couples. The walk to the beach is not bad: about 15 minutes. We only drove once. I would for sure stay with Jose again and I would highly recommend anyone I know going to Tamarindo to reach out to him.

    Rob2016-06-05T00:00:00Z
  • Our family of 4 had a great stay at Casa Tranquila. Everything was perfect. Jose and his wife (and baby) were very helpful and nice. The casa was spacious and had everything we needed. The location was perfect; just a short drive down to town and the beach. The shaded pool was a great place to hang out after a day at the beach. We saw howler monkeys two days in a row. One day they were literally all over the property, which was very entertaining. Guapa, the dog, was so sweet. She met us and literally showed us the way to our front door and was the highlight of the stay for our daughter. No doubt we will stay here again next time we visit Tamarindo.

    Jeremy2016-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing time at Jose's bungalow. It was just outside of the main strip, close enough to walk but far enough to not hear any of the street noise. A great breeze blows through his well maintained property and is a perfect place to relax after exploring a number of great beaches nearby. We did not get to meet Jose, but his father welcomed us and was incredibly helpful and both he and his wife were great hosts and really good people. Would come back again!

Your adventure can be as extreme or relaxing as you choose with a plethora of natural swimming pools, waterfalls and rock faces to explore! Whether you are honeymooners, a group of friends or a large family of 7, you will have the entire ecolodge just to yourselves. We have also planted lots of trees, so please be our guests and pick any of the fruits they are all obviously 100% organic! If you venture off any of the paths, take your boots and maybe a hiking pole. We are just a 10-15 minute drive (depending on season & road conditions) from the Costa Nera Highway allowing guests to easily explore the area with day trips to two of Costa Rica's most popular national parks (Manuel Antonio & Corcovado), stunning beaches (Playa Arco, Tortuga y Ventanas are our three favourites) and our concierge service can help with tours and boat trips, trekking options, scuba diving & snorkelling trips, kayaking, stand up paddling, surfing, hiking, mountain biking, canyoning, canopy lines and horse riding etc. The nearby village of Ojochal (just 5 minutes up the Costa Nera) is one of a few local villages hosting a whole load of fine dining and fusion restaurants or if you'd prefer to relax 'at home' we can happily arrange home-cooked 'tico' meals, food parcels (according to the season, fresh fish, ceviche and seafood all available) and fruit baskets to be delivered direct to the Jungle Villa. ECO-TRAVEL - Eco-travel in Costa Rica is your ticket to explore a plethora of amazing places that care just as much about the environment as they do about their guests. It's a country where 'organic' is as important as 'stylish', and the government plans to make it the world's first carbon-neutral country by 2021. ‘Pura vida' is Costa Rica's national motto, and for good reason. It's a real paradise: Our guests can enjoy the 'pure life' in some of the world's most bio-diverse jungles, rain forests and coastlines. The country's book-ended by beaches on its Pacific and Caribbean sides (hence the laid-back surfer ethos that characterizes coastal life) and inland, nature holds way: a full quarter of Costa Rica is protected land, from the smouldering volcanoes to dense jungles. In the highlands, farms and plantations produce delicious tropical fruit – as well as some of the finest coffee ever to grace your espresso PURA VIDA ECOLODGE FAQs: - WILL I NEED A 4x4 CAR? Yes, our retreat is situated 5km from the coast and the village of Coronado on a well maintained gravel road into the coastal mountains. A 4WD car is necessary. There is a convenience store or “soda" as they are called in Costa Rica, at the Coronado junction, where you can get the majority of your groceries and supplies. For supermarkets, restaurants/bars, beaches, bigger stores, etc. you would require transportation to the local towns of Ojochal (5 mins), Uvita (15 mins) up the Costa Nera Highway. Several taxi services are available but you cannot beat the independence of having your own 4WD. Driving time from San Jose is around 3.5 hours. Full details & directions in welcome pack TIP: Bring coins and change from the US or change colones for the highway tolls! - WHO SHOULD I RENT OUR 4WD WITH? We have been working with Vamos Rent-a-Car since we opened. They speak English and they have various offices around the country (Near San Jose Airport and Dominical amongst others). They will meet you off your flight or even at your hotel if you're setting off early in the morning. Be sure to mention us and Pura Vida Ecolodge to get the best prices & treatment. You should allow around an hour for vehicle collection and paperwork. - IS THERE SOMEONE IN COSTA RICA WHO CAN ASSIST ME WHILE I AM THERE? Yes, once you book Pura Vida Ecolodge, you will be sent the welcome pack which includes all the details of our housekeeper and his wife, who together with myself and Kika, will double up as your 'concierge service' leading up to and throughout your stay. Though our housekeepers are Spanish speaking only, they are very knowledgeable on the area and will be there at checkin & checkout and can help you throughout your stay with anything you might need. I'm sorry we cannot be there but you'll be in very good hands, Gersan & Ili are practically family! - IS THERE A BEACH NEARBY THAT IS EASY TO GET TO? Yes, in fact you are really quite spoilt for choice. Playa Tortuga is the nearest and possibly one of our favourites. Once down at the Costa Nera, it is just a 5 minute drive up the coast. A short drive further up the coast takes you to Playa Piñuelas, Playa Ventanas and then the stunning national park of Marina Ballena and Uvita. Full directions (including which beaches are best for swimming and surfing etc is included in your welcome pack). -HOW EASY IS IT TO FIND PURA VIDA ECOLODGE? Upon confirming your reservation, we send all our guests a welcome pack with very clear directions including photos of landmarks along the way. This is updated monthly as we aim to give all our guests as up-to-date info and recommendations as possible -ARE THERE RESTAURANTS AND SHOPPING NEARBY? Ojochal is the nearest town with a really good selection of fine & casual dining. You can find Fusion, Italian, Asian, “Typical Costa Rican," even a deli/bakery and a handful of great fruit smoothie and ceviche places. Further up the coast there is Uvita, again with a good balance of International and 'local' options. We include a full list of recommendations (both restaurants & bars) in the welcome pack. For shopping, you may wish to visit the bustling tourist town of Manuel Antonio (50-60 minutes drive north) which has souvenir, jewellery, and art/craft shops and many lively restaurants (we recommend a trip to Manuel Antonio, anyway, for the national park, which a lot of our guests do either on the way down or on the way back up to San Jose. -ARE THERE EXCURSIONS & ACTIVITIES CLOSE BY? Yes, yes, yes! Again, you can find more details on the Pura Vida Ecolodge web site, but there are spectacular waterfalls, nature trails and plunge pools right in the reserve itself. The surrounding area offers world class scuba diving, snorkelling, zip-lining, boat tours, mangrove tours, hiking, stand-up paddling, horseback tours, canyoning, as well as being located between the country's best national parks (Corcovado & Manuel Antonio) and a 20 minute drive from Marina Ballena National Park. There are dozens of picturesque, quiet beaches all the way up and down the Southern Pacific coast, with enough activities and adventures on offer to do something completely different every day! We can also recommend great day trips to the Osa Peninsula, Sierpe and Nuayaca Falls amongst others and an overnight option to Mt Chirripo is incredible if you have the time. For surfers, Playa Dominical has a famous left and right beach surf break, and waves 95% of the year. Closer to the lodge, Playa Tortuga and Ventanas often have good waves more for beginners or if you're after an almost private beach and wildlife experience, you can have breakfast or lunch at La Cusinga and then explore the different monkey colonies. if you're lucky you might spot some Red Scarlet Macaws and guests also regularly see lots of toucans and different types of parrots. The 10-min walk through the jungle down to Playa Arco is well worth the trek! -IS IT A QUIET NEIGHBOURHOOD? Yes, Pura Vida Ecolodge is the best of both worlds. While being a completely private retreat and reserve (both the house, pool and the surrounding nature trails) with it's orientation meaning that the property literally hangs over the jungle canopy on one side and directly faces the Pacific coast on the other, you will have a handful of neighbours nearby in the slowly growing community if you wanted a friendly chat or even some more tips on the area. -IS THERE A GROCERY STORE NEARBY? There is a good little 'pulperia' (small local store) on the crossroads at Coronado (around 5km away) that will most likely have most things you would need. There is also a great fish/seafood place just 1 km from the Coronado junction. For larger shopping, there are two big supermarkets ( as well as a really good Pharmacy) in Uvita, about 15 minutes up the coast -DOES THE ECOLODGE HAVE INTERNET AND CAN I PURCHASE A LOCAL CELL NUMBER? Yes, the house is equipped with WiFi for internet connection and you can even purchase a sim card for around $4 (around 2000 colones) by the luggage claim in the airport, you just need a passport. Sim card is technically free as you can use all of the funds with calls. While cellphone signals have greatly improved in the country, there are some spots around Coronado that don't have reception but there is consistently good signal in and around Pura Vida Ecolodge. Please note that while the WIFI/hotspot is fine for emails and checking the news etc, please don’t expect to be able to stream movies as it's only 3G speed. -WHAT IS THE WEATHER LIKE? A more detailed description of Costa Rica's seasons can be found on the Pura Vida Ecolodge web site, but in general you can expect about 85+ degrees at the beach year round. The only difference in climate year round is that May-November is the "green," or rainy season, and December through March/April is the dry season. The temperature up at the Ecolodge is always a few degrees cooler because it is around 1000ft. elevation, and you get great mountain breezes. Likewise, because of its proximity to the equator, the sunrise is around 5-5.30am with the sunsetting at 5.30-6pm. The ‘Green season's' rains are quite welcoming, it's always hot and the partial clouds and afternoon rains are soothing. Typically the rains start on the mountains between 2-4pm, maybe a little later by beach. For us, the best times of the day are between 5-7am. The congo monkeys will wake you up, and it's the most glorious part of the day and besides you'll most likely be asleep by 8/9pm! It's amazing how quickly you'll adjustment! -WHICH ROOMS HAVE AIR CONDITIONING? Both bedrooms/suites have A/C: the Ocean View Suite on the first floor, and the Jungle View Suite on the ground floor. Please note there is not A/C throughout the rest of the home, but there are ceiling fans in each room and the Ecolodge has been designed with your comfort in mind, with large-open plan living spaces, surrounded by sliding doors leading out onto the wrap around decks which mean there are lovely fresh sea-breezes throughout. -WILL I NEED TO BRING ANYTHING WITH ME? You need not bring any household items as all bedding, tableware, towels, cookware etc are all provided. We also provide a wonderful fruit basket and some other local delicacies on arrival. Bring only your personal items, and of course a sense of 'Pura Vida' adventure! -IS PURA VIDA ECOLODGE A PRIVATE LOCATION? Yes, not only is the location incredibly private but regardless of your group size, you will have the entire retreat (house and surrounding reserve) just to yourselves. A lot of our guests are honeymooners and couples, as well as groups of friends and entire families. Either way, whether you are 2 people or a group of 6 with kids, you will have the entire property to yourself. - IS COSTA RICA SAFE? In general Costa Rica is very safe, however petty crimes do happen especially by the beaches or touristy areas. Do not bring any valuables to Costa Rica with you and especially do not bring them with you to the beach. TIP: Leave the glove department open to indicate it's empty.
The neighbourhood offers guests peace and quiet and has an abundance of nature and stunning flora and fauna. You can wake with the sounds of the congo howler monkeys and watch the sunset as the toucans fly right by the house. There are nature trails and waterfalls just a short walk away plus plenty of adventures on Pura Vida Ecolodge's doorstep!
  • Pura Vida Ecolodge is an artsy retreat set among the rainforest with breathtaking panoramic views. My husband and I was staying in this hilltop hideaway with our two friends. We appreciated our hosts’ hospitality – excellent communication, welcome fruit basket, easy check-in and check-out. We woke up early in a morning, enjoyed a cup of coffee on a deck with background music of the jungle, practiced yoga, cooked healthy meals every day, plunged in the pool, read books, napped on a very comfortable couch, hiked the hills, and watched sunsets with a glass of wine. The location is perfect – it is right in the heart of the jungle, surrounded by birds, butterflies, howler monkeys with a short drive to beautiful secluded beaches. I highly recommend Pure Vida Ecolodge to anyone who wants to experience serenity, sanctuary, adventures, and appreciate clean sustainable design and eco-luxury.

  • We had a wonderful week at the Pura Vida Ecolodge. The setting is breathtaking, and each morning we woke to the sounds of birds singing and a view of the ocean. The house is beautiful and comfortable. The kitchen is well supplied, and we had everything we needed to cook family meals. My husband hiked the immediate area and was amazed at the beauty. Like many other reviews we read, the 5km drive up the mountain seems daunting at first, but it really wasn't a problem for us once we knew where we were going. It's a 13 minute drive, and we definitely needed 4WD. The area beaches and restaurants were easy to get to and we found a new and beautiful beach just about every day. Joe was very helpful throughout our stay and answered every question we had. Gersan was very friendly and helpful too. We couldn't have asked for a better experience. Highly recommended.

  • Really enjoyed the place. Had an amazing view and it was right in the middle of the jungle. Though at night, there was a lot of bugs which were attracted towards the house and we had to frequently turn off the lights to reduce their numbers. Overall I would highly recommend the place for anyone who wants to experience a real taste of Costa Rica.

  • I do not even know where to start. Let me start by saying that the Ecolodge is beautiful! Breathtaking! Joe, Kika, and Gerzan were so wonderful. They were very helpful, accommodating, and welcoming. When making the reservations, Kika and Joe were very informative and helpful. They always responded very quickly and politely. The suggestion to rent a 4x4 was very accurate. You must get a 4x4! I cannot imagine driving a sedan up the (extremely) bumpy and winding mountain (more about the roads later). You may think the pictures are perfection but they do not compare the real-life experience. The Ecolodge decoration and ambience make you feel at peace and relaxed. Yoga pads and games are available. But all you need is the amazing view. I woke up every morning at 6am to enjoy the thick clouds and beautiful misty mountains. Every night we sat outside in the dark and appreciated the lightening. The insects and animals chirping were unforgettable. We saw many insects, frogs, and spiders. In fact, we all slept upstairs after finding a HUGE spider. It was a classic horror scene. However, even that experience was fun! Gerzan is soooo wonderful. An amazing housekeeper and host. He was very patient and willing to help us with anything we needed. We got extremely lost and arrived late. He waited and came out to find us in the dark. He answered our calls and (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) messages very quickly. My best friend secretly arranged to have a private horseback ride with Gerzan and a local horse keeper. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! The ride lead to a waterfall which you can swim and relax. Blissful! The ride was amazing—a true adventure. She also secretly arranged to have Gerzan and his wonderful wife cook me a birthday dinner and cocktails. They personally delivered the food and set the dinner table. The presentation was lovely. The drive to Tres Rios was so fun. It was an adventure for sure. If driving from San Jose, leave early and arrive before 4pm. I had a great time driving up and down the mountain. Get ready for a ride! There are two grocery shops on the main road. Make sure you check the expiration dates. Most of our food was expired. We did not realize until we began cooking. Gas station was 24/7 which was nice. All together my experience was one of the best I have had. I will certainly be back and I cannot wait!!

  • We had the most amazing stay at Pura Vida Ecolodge! We got the perfect route how to find it in the Welcome Package and once we arrived Gersan was right there to explain everything to us. We even got fresh fruit as a welcome gift! From the very first minute we fell in love with thus beautiful house in a stunning location. Everything was super clean and very well kept in shape. It even has a second guest house on the lower level which we didn't get to use since there was plenty of room for the both of us upstairs. The pool is lovely and refreshing. I did Yoga twice a day with the sunrise and sunset on the terrace with its amazing view. The kitchen is super well equipped so we cooked every day, though there are a lot of great restaurants in the area... On our last day we took the tour with Gersan which was so great! His wife prepared a late breakfast for us at their home and from there we headed of to get to the boat and into the mangroves. We saw tons of birds and even monkeys! Finally we arrived at a super isolated, beautiful beach where we had the picnic they specially prepared for us (were both vegetarians and they had tons of fresh fruit and a homemade delicious guacamole and tortillas). Gersan and his friend were very polite and cool guides, telling us everything about the nature... What can we say: it was a PLEASURE to stay at Joe's & Kika's home and we'd definitely come back next time we're in Costa Rica! Thanks again for being such great hosts!

  • Having just returned back from 14 days in Pura Vida we are suffering with severe "holiday blues". Our Pura Vida experience has been amazing! The lodge and location exceeded our expectations and the host Gerzan was a delight! The lodge has everything you need and the owners Jo & Kika kept in contact with us and had we needed to we could have contacted them at any time. A 4x4 is a must would recommend a manual one. The road seems a bit scary at first but once you go up and down once or twice it its fine. There are too many things to list about how amazing this place is, highlights are firstly the "STUNNING" location, we spent so many lazy days just sitting on the deck listening to the sounds of the jungle and taking in the incredible view. Gerzan's mangrove tour is a MUST! Swiming in the numerous waterfalls. We visited the local animal sanctuary which was really cool and we also went on a wonderful horseback ride up to a waterfall for a swim ( at Rancho La Merce in Uvita). National Park Tour (saw Dolphins and Turtles on the way). There are too many beatuiful beaches to list here and hardly anyone on them and lovely sunsets. The sea is warm as is the weather at all times but not unbearably hot. I regularly applied deet and did not have any problems with bites. We saw, Howler Monkeys, Scarlet Macaws, owls, Iguanas, birds, insects and one evening a host Cappucino Monkeys (by the beach). Costa Rica way of life is laid back and friendly. Favourite thing of all??? Leaving behind the TVs, mobiles etc and sharing the peace and seclution of "Pura Vida" ecolodge with our dearest friends! Thank you so much Jo & Kika for sharing your piece of paradise with us and enabling us to meet our new friend Gerzan. We will be back for sure.

  • Pura Vida Ego Lodge was just amazing. After getting totally lost on our way to the lodge we were so thankful to get picked up by Gersan (the housekeeper). We enjoyed the stay to the fullest! The lodge and the surrounding is so nice. Everything is made with much love. When you wake up and see the sun rising at the end of the rainforest... indescribable feeling :) The communication was very good and everyone was helpful. Gersan is an amazing housekeeper and we totally recommend to do the boat trip with him. Hopefully there will be a second time a pura vida ecolodge for us! Thanks for everything

  • Phil is an amazing host! It felt like we were staying with family. He opened his home to my boyfriend and I to share breakfast and many great conversations. He really is a Costa Rica expert, he even helped us with other travel situations all along our journey. Kalina was also very gracious and hospitable, making us delicious coffee, eggs, and french toast with cream cheese and papaya. Yum! The room was nice and clean and the grounds were incredible. We would definitely stay again.

  • My husband and I were traveling across Costa Rica on our honeymoon. We booked Phil's place because it seemed like a good halfway point. We got in after dark and expected to leave early in the morning....until we woke up and had a look around. This space is fantastic! We ended up spending a good bit of the morning exploring the beautiful gardens and coffee farm. Phil has a meditation area set up on the river at the back of the farm. Phil greeted us with coffee in the morning. He is very nice, personable and informative. We all ended up chatting for quite some time. The room is simple and the bed is comfortable. We would stay here again. Oh and we left with quite a few bags of delicious freshly roasted coffee beans too!

  • Our stay at the coffee ranch was fantastic. We stayed here our first and last night in Costa Rica. The grounds and gardens are absolutely beautiful. Phil was very friendly and accommodating. He even gave us great advice that drastically improved our trip. The coffee and breakfast was delicious and we enjoyed talking with Phil in the mornings. The rooms were very clean and well taken care of. Phil even upgraded us to the guest house on our second night and it was great. Most importantly, the cat, Gizmo, is amazing as are the 3 dogs.

    Eden2015-05-30T00:00:00Z
  • I highly recommend staying with Phil. When I'm looking for somewhere to stay on airbnb, I break down what I want into three categories: 1.) The host (you need a reliable/cool host or you've got a big problem.) 2.) Room conditions (Need to have some quality of sleep and feel safe.) 3.) The surrounding area (need to have some fun or be surrounded by things worth while.) Touching on #1: Phil was a great host. Gave great insights about the area, cooked a really good breakfast, had absolutely brilliant coffee, and he was even nice enough to give me a ride into town because it was on his may during my last day. Touching on #2: His price is a real bargain for what you get. The room was clean, nice bathroom, tv (if you are like me and enjoy falling asleep to tv), and the bed was comfortable. Touching on #3: If you are looking for nightclubs it's not the place. But if you're looking for a really really cool compound with nature and amazing views, it's for you. I had a great time just wandering around all of the acreage on the coffee ranch and enjoying the views. Even though it's not right downtown, there still are really good restaurants down the road and places to grab a beer. I highly recommend it. A.J.

  • Amazing place! Beautiful tranquil coffee farm with amazing gardens, a perfect end to our trip. Phil is a gracious host and we feel lucky to have met him. The cottage is very cozy and clean - our only regret is that we didn't stay longer! Take at least a couple nights here if you can, you won't regret it.

  • Phils Place is the most spiritually enchanting place I have ever seen! He was so helpful. We felt both at peace and at home. He leaves no stone unturned! Spend time getting to know this renaissance man! He is such an interesting man!! We will be back over and over again. His coffee is even more incredible!!!

  • Phil was an excellent host. If we needed anything he was there to help us. He even went out of his way to help us order our food from the nearby town and he took us to go pick it up! Phil had some great information and insight into the life of Costa Rica. It was really nice to chat with him about the country. The property is so beautiful. We took nice walks and soaked up the sun and fresh air. The room was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. We were happy to buy a couple bags of his fresh delicious coffee! I'm looking forward to drinking more when we get home! Thank you Phil for sharing your beautiful home and property with us!

Experience Costa Rica in this zen-like modern home surrounded by 40-acres of tropical forest, across from one of the most beautiful palm-lined beaches in Costa Rica! Watch toucans and many other exotic birds from the deck, or take a nature tour around the spring-fed lake, that is home to the famous Basilisk or 'Jesus Christ' lizard, as well as turtles, tiger-throated herons, and spectacled caiman. The property is centrally located close to markets, restaurants, and national parks. Pura Vida!
Nestled on a hill off the Costanera, this modern home appeals to those who appreciate nature and simple design. Although the home is built with exposed concrete and has a minimalist feel, it is surrounded by natural landscaping and has magnificent views of the surrounding area. The home has an open floor-plan consisting of the living room, dining room, and kitchen upstairs, which leads to a private deck. Downstairs is the laundry and guest bathroom, which connects to the outdoor shower area and three bedrooms.
Playa Bejuco is home to one of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica! It is perfect for surfing, horseback riding, or simply enjoying one of the most awe-inspiring sunsets you've ever seen. There are some great restaurants within a mile from the property and many others in the towns of Jaco, Quepos, and Manuel Antonio. We are always happy to recommend our favorites!
  • My friends and I thorougly enjoyed our stay at this location! We loved it there so much that we are planning to return in the future. :) Rosie was extremely responsive, reliable, and helpful. She was willing to assist us with finding and securing a rental, dining locations, and a host of other things. She was there to greet us when we arrived ( we even met her son and his parrot :)). She also took the time to chat with us about different acitivities to do in the area. The home is exactly as pictured--exotic, beautiful, comfortable, clean, and safe. Most importantly, the hospitality and accomodations extended to us were exceptional. The home was adequately stocked with whatever necessities that we needed--saving us time and money. She even provided us with clean linen upon our arrival. What we enjoyed the most is the private pool, the outdoor shower, and the scenic views. The home also looks amazing at night. We had absolutely no complaints during our stay. We had an amazing time, and we are looking forward to visiting this location again. For any of you looking for a place to stay while visiting this area, please consider this location. Thank you again, Rosie!

  • Rosie was amazing! We loved the place in Esterillos and were profoundly overjoyed by Rosie's accommodations. Not only did Rosie help us plan out some excursions she also assisted us in booking them as well. We loved the house, the outdoor shower and the swimming pool was a nice break from the beach. Location wise, this was perfectly nestled between Jaco and Quepos. We rented a car and had no problem getting around thanks to Rosie's suggestion of renting a hot spot to use GPS. Great idea!!! We will be back!

    Leslie2016-06-21T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful modern home with a crystal clear pool and patio with an incredible view of the stars. Full kitchen, and AC throughout made it very comfortable! We had such a lovely time we extended our stay. Would recommend very highly. And Rosie was wonderful!! Her recommendations were fantastic, waterfall hike, national park, and black sand beaches close by. Can't wait to come back.

  • Property was awesome. I highly recommend.

  • Rosie's place was amazing. She was extremely helpful leading up to the trip with suggestions and planning tips for us. The layout of the house was fantastic and every bit as good as expected. The pool was amazing and having it all to ourselves every day was definitely a highlight. The property the house is on is beautiful and we saw tons of tropical birds and iguanas roaming around. There are caymans in the lake next to the house which were fun to see. The house is just very a short drive from a beautiful beach lined with trees and shade, and we actually started our morning run from the house and ran down to the beach every day. The house is conveniently and centrally located in a great spot on the coast. We had dinner in Jaco or Esterillos most nights, and spend our days exploring the coast to the south. I'd definitely recommend Rosie's place if you're looking for a quiet place with your own private pool to relax in after a day of exploring. It's not walkable to any restaurants or bars, but we enjoyed the privacy and having the pool to ourselves. Definitely recommended!

    Jeremy2017-04-05T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Rosie's place! Our stay exceeded expectations. The property was gorgeous and the pool was the cherry on top! Rosie was great communicating. We had some unexpected issues on our arrival date and Rosie was flexible. Rosie was very helpful with recommendations and helped us make arrangements for Ocean Ranch Park (which I also highly recommend)! The home was spacious and in a good location to head just about any directions on the coast.

  • We stayed at Rosie's Los Laureles Villa for three nights enroute to the Hatillo/Dominical area. We arrived in San Jose at 4pm and didn't want too long a drive on our first night, and this proved a wise decision. The Villa is about 1.5 hours through the mountains towards the coast. Traffic can be heavy but roads are excellent. Rosie settled us in and is a truly gracious host with lots of local knowledge. If you are interested in local plants and edibles, Rosie is a great resource and there is a wonderful organic garden to explore and 40 acres of trails to wander through beautiful tropical growth. A lovely family lives close by to caretake and tell you all about the garden (in Spanish) and if you like dogs, you will LOVE meeting their little gentle Nico. They showed us a sloth by the lake, and can do simple meals and laundry if you like. The house is spacious and clean, on multi levels, not so suitable for people with mobility issues. Kitchen was well equipped and lots of towels and comfy beds. Outdoor shower a real treat. Surrounding area (Bejuco Beach especially) easy drive and beautiful. Overall we were very happy and encourage guests to explore the property, a lovely way to start the day.

    Leeanne2017-03-28T00:00:00Z
  • This place is truly amazing and you can watch monkeys from the private pool. The house is beautiful (just like on the pictures), very spacious and has everything you need. The beach is close but you will need a car to get there easily as it is a short drive and across the highway. Rosie was utterly brilliant responding to our every need. We would definitely recommend this place.

  • Justin is an amazing host. He was there to greet us at the Surfshop in the middle of town. I was glad to find someone as friendly as Justin to support. He gave my partner and I great knowledge about the area, where to eat and more. The treehouse is BEAUTIFUL and very clean. The waves crashing on the beach was very relaxing. This place is paradise and whenever I go back to Costa Rica I'm staying here!!! Thank you Justin for everything. See you in 2017!

  • We had a great time here! It was easy to find from San Jose, and it was a perfect place to spend our week. Justin and Jessica were awesome - they were welcoming and helpful starting before we arrived and throughout our trip. We had everything we needed during our stay, including the housekeeper tidying up for us midweek, and great recommendations for things to do and where to eat. Justin even brought us some beach towels when we realized that we hadn't brought any. Esterillos Oeste is a perfect location - it's small but beautiful and we were completely happy there on the days we stayed in town. It's also a short drive from some larger nearby towns, and from Manuel Antonio National Park. Our week here was relaxing and easy, and filled with amazing views - just what we needed.

  • This is a fantastic property located near the beach and restaurants, stores, and surf shops. David is a fantastic, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable host. He is very welcoming, although located in a suite attached to the main house, one hardly knows he is there. We spent 9 nights with our 8 year old son and walked everywhere. The house in our opinion is exactly as described, modern, well designed, bright, and private. The new patio addition with dipping pool is spectacular! That you David for a fantastic stay.

    Michael2015-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • My brother, my friend, and I spent 4 nights at David place in late April 2015. David is a wonderful host. Upon arrival he gave us a quick overview of the property and a few recommendations on places to check out in the surrounding area. The house was beautiful and clean. I loved David’s modern design work. The open setup was perfect for us. I would highly recommend staying here. It is in a great location (close to beach and restaurant).

  • Everything about this place and this town is worth it! Amazing experience, amazing home, amazing host.

    Julie2017-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • David was very friendly and hospitable and is readily available for questions. He knows a lot about the area. The house was modern, spacious and comfortable and in a convenient location. The only caveat is that the roads around Nosara are terrible so if you are getting a vehicle get an 4 wheel drive or a atv in town. Don't drive at night if you can help it. I found David's instructions to Casa David a little confusing. If you follow the signs from Samara to Nosara, pass the National Car Rental sign on the right, then follow the signs for 4Uhostal you will find it. The driveway to the house is on the left between La Creperie and 4Uhostal, The house adjacent to La Creperie. We enjoyed are stay very much! Beach is close enough to walk to. I went to Nosara in part for yoga and the studios were within walking distance as well.

  • Modern and comfortable David has everything that you need to enjoy a visit to his place. Less than a ten minute walk to Playa Guiones, beautiful beaches David was a gracious and helpful host. However you need to be aware that the location (Guiones) is not safe , we left our car on the main beach (where all the tourists are) ,for about an hour and car was broken with all or documents-professional camera-cash-iphones stolen Best advise ,do not carry anything of value and even during the night make sure you let the lights open, your things of value in the safe and villa secured when you go to dinner Besides that David was full of good advise for activities We hope that you ll have a better experience than us !

    Fiona2017-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • Beautifully designed and crafted, Casa David is also conveniently located. The backyard space is great in the early morning and after sundown. There are several ceiling fans, but the house does get warm, so we really appreciated the AC.

    Garth T2016-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely house! We really enjoyed our stay. David was very helpful with tips and recommendations when we checked in, and was available all throughout our stay.

    Tiffany2016-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • David's house is fantastic, and quite unlike anything else (that we saw) in Nosara: stylish, modern, open concept. In short, cool. Perfect for a couple (like us) or a small group / family comfortable staying in a totally open concept loft-like place. Most of the places in Nosara are basic hostel-style accommodation or gigantic luxury estates, neither of which really suits us. This place is the perfect balance: stylish, without overpaying for a bunch of space that we wouldn't have actually used. David, the host, is a genuinely friendly, hospitable man, ready to help with anything. He's sort of a "man about town" in Nosara, and seems to know everyone. When we needed a van to take us to the airport, he whistled out the door and one of his neighbors, the owner of a taxi company, walked over. After a few friendly words with her, we had our cab booked. That's kind of how it is there: really friendly, and David is at the center of it all. If you like a dash of modern in the places you stay, and want great service, you'll be very happy with this place.

You will love my place it has lots of light, a beautiful mountain view, comfortable bed and fully equipped kitchen. Perfect for couples, families on vacation. Self check in.
Studio apartment, with full size bed and a pull over couch for an extra guest, internet and cable tv. Ideal if you come for vacation, and want to make one day trips to the mountains or to the beach, its also perfect for your first or las nights in Costa Rica, so you can get the feeling of busy down town, or if you come for medical turism it is about 15 minute cab drive to most hospitals. Located on the 5th floor, there is elevator, it has a great view of the mountains to the north side of town, and its located very close to all main museums and attractions in the heart of San Jose.
The place is located in the heart of the city and there is much traffic and people around the neighborhood specially in week days. San José is a very busy city, it gets very crowded during the day and at night it is calm, you need to take this into consideration. Although we are a small country every day in San José more then one million people go through the city on transit to work , school or hospitals, many located in the great metropolitan area. The apartment is located near hotels, restaurants, parks and a five minute walk to all the museums (Gold, Jade, National, Art) . Like any city that you are getting to know you should never be over confident, when you arrive I will be more than happy to give you instructions so you can get around, and you can also find instructions right here if you read " Getting Around" (Guidebook). The place is just three blocks away from central avenue where you can find all the museums, restaurants and nice shops, it is a nice street walk!... There you can see the beautiful National Theater, on calle 2 , you will find the Mail Building, both are "most see" land marks in San José. You might want to go take a peak at the Hotel Costa Rica, which is the first hotel built in San Jose in the early 1900's, walk a bit west on second avenue and you will find the Cathedral and Central Park, on the right the beautiful Melico Salazar theater. You can also find very nice souvenir shops just a couple of blocks away. The Jade Museum, is a most if you like museums!!... It is within a 5 minute walk.
  • We loved our accommodation in San Jose. Marie was a great host, welcomed us and gave us information on how to get around the city. The location was great, close to many different attractions. The apartment was beautiful, very clean and it had a great view towards the mountains. I highly recommend this home.

  • I had a very good experience at this place. The location is great, the view from the high floor is great and the bed is great :) Marie's handyman Juan Jose welcomed us and was very nice with everything even though we arrived later than expected. Highly recommended!

  • Great apartment, beautiful set-up and very comfortable bed. Marie was very accomodating and made sure we got our apartment key and anything else we needed. Very quick to respond as well. Thanks for a great stay and looking forward to come back!

  • I didn't get to meet Marie due to our flight being delayed a day, but she was incredibly helpful. Her place was adorable and clean, with any amenity we might have needed, and very gracious and accommodating about our delays.

  • Everything was as expected, and the experience was great!

  • I visited San Jose May 6th-May 10th 2016 and stayed at Marie's Airbnb. I had a wonderful experience in her apartment. The listing looks exactly as it is pictured and as a solo traveler on this trip, i felt very safe and right at home. Marie even made accomodations to have a taxi transport me to and from the the airport and they were very professional.

    LaToya2016-05-11T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean centrally located with everything one needs for a long/short stay. Marie was extremely helpful in providing us with all the information we needed. You can tell she's a "super host". Thanks Marie, hope to make it back someday.

    Kathryn2016-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment was just perfect. If you plan to stay in the city I'd recommend to stay here for a party of 2. The apartment/building is centrally located to restaurants, bars , and the central market (where we found a great spot to eat) in the heart of downtown San Jose. Marie is great communicating with if you have any questions. I recommend this place

This one-of-a-kind wooden house is the essence of tropical living. Surrounded by 4 acres of private property, it is a perfect place to decompress when you first arrive in Costa Rica, or just before you go home. 30 minutes to airport.
The Rancho is the guest house on our property where we live full time in Atenas, Costa Rica. It is a tropical-style building constructed of beautiful tropical hardwoods. It has a central living/dining area, a 2nd floor bedroom w/double bed, a small kitchenette with mini-fridge, a microwave oven, a sink carved from one long piece of wood. The bathroom is unique: 20 ft. long, stone walls and floor, wood structure; the walls are black lava rock from Arenal Volcano, the floors smooth flagstone, there is a stone shower stall, and a bathtub carved out of one tree trunk. Unfortunately the bathtub needs extensive renovation and cannot be used at this time. A toilet, of course; modern plumbing fixtures throughout. It was built out over a little man-made lake, but changing climate patterns have dictated a much smaller water body, only full during the rainy season. The rest has been turned into garden. The property is a birders paradise. We have 4 acres (16,000 sq.m.) with many fruit trees, are surrounded on three sides by coffee farms. This is the real Costa Rica. And this is the perfect tropical getaway for a weekend, or an interlude in between beaches, tropical forests and other activities. The property is in the neighborhood of Alto Lopez, in Barrio San Jose Sur de Atenas, just 4 km or 10 minutes from Atenas centro. The neighborhood is very safe - everyone knows everyone else, and our property is totally secure. NOT a gated community! We are one hour from the central Pacific beach towns of Jaco and Puntarenas, 1.5 hours from Manuel Antonio National Park, 2 hours to Monte Verde Cloud Forest and 30 minutes from San Jose airport. PLEASE NOTE: The building IS NOT CHILD SAFE. I will not allow any child younger than 12 in the building. There are too many places where a child could literally fall out of the building.
Its real Costa Ricans (Tico's/Tica's.) Friendly and honest, the Ticos's consistently come out No. 1 on the World Happiness Quotient. To be expected from a county who's slogan is "pura vida" - pure life. There is a restaurant serving lunch and dinner a five minute walk from our place, and a little convenience store right on our street, 2 minutes away.
  • Great stay! Jean and Al were great hosts! Thank you!

    Monika2017-05-02T00:00:00Z
  • I only hesitate to recommend this property because it is so amazing and I wish it would just always be available for us to rent. We already felt like this place was a real find based on the listing alone and we were not disappointed in the slightest. It was everything we had been hoping for and imagining in a Costa Rican rental property. The hosts were so incredibly friendly and welcoming and the property as a hole is gorgeous. We felt so luck to be there at all, it felt very off the beaten path and unlike anything you could normally rent as a tourist. We would definitely (and hope) to stay there again someday.

    Jason2014-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • I had an amazing time. This place was more than unique. It felt like I was in paradise for a couple of days. It was conveniently located (only 30 min from the airport) and Jean and Al were so sweet. I definitely would recommend this place highly.

    Ahmed2016-06-03T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful. Relaxing. Pura Vida. We stayed here the first night of our honeymoon. We were exhausted and this was the perfect little rest stop. We enjoyed our stay so very much. Jean and Al are delightful and helpful. Heed their advice and get there before dark. Driving there is an adventure in and of itself, one best done in daylight. I would stay again in a heartbeat.

    Rachael2015-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • This is the most one of a kind home and my favorite vacation experience. Pictures don't even do this place justice. Jean and her husband Al are so kind and wonderful hosts. They gave us some great beach suggestions near Jaco and it was absolutely beautiful. This was the perfect place to relax and unwind after spending a few days hiking in Monteverde. Very surprisingly we were not bothered by mosquitos at all. If you're looking for an authentic Costa Rica experience, look no further!

    Breanne2017-11-15T00:00:00Z
  • We loves the Rancho, Atenas, and Jean and Al. Not only was the place lovely- but so were the hosts! From their suggestions for day outings to their mangos, amazing hospitality, and Internet access- it was a comfortable and unique place to stay. We were an hour from the beach, and not far from a volcano and gardens. We only stayed in CR three days- and spent all three at the Rancho. I'd highly recommend it to couples and adventurers alike. :) thanks for a great stay.

    Brianne2016-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • The Rancho @ Cielo Vanilla was a wonderful place to stay! The lodge is as beautiful as shown in the airbnb photos. It is open air sleeping, very comfortable, exquisitely crafted and well maintained. Jean and her husband are lovely, welcoming and informative about the area. The yard has fruit trees, including plump mangoes that were weighing down the branches. They offered us delicious water apple fruits that were ripe. Jean's husband is also an accomplished artist with a studio on the property. There is only the one lodge located near the house, so it is very private. The only criticisms would be the directions to the lodge could be a little more clear and it is a little far from the town center in Atenas. We also had cancel one of the nights and they were very accommodating making the change at no extra cost. Pura Vida!

    Anne2015-04-09T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here for 3 nights at the beginning of our Costa Rican honeymoon trip, and our first AirBnB stay too! It's was awesome! The grounds that the bungalow are on are BEAUTIFUL. Jean said she's a retired landscape architect and you can tell - It's gorgeous. The bungalow itself is super neat - you won't find anywhere else that's as cool as this place! Al & Jean were awesome hosts and surprised us with leaving us some breakfast foods and fresh fruit (some of which came from their own organic fruit trees!) in the bungalow upon arrival, which was so sweet. The bungalow is a pretty open space, so don't be surprised to see a bird dart in and out, but that lends itself to a really unique Costa Rica experience! Our hosts were wonderful - they even met us in town to help us find our way there on our first trip in, and if we ever needed anything they were right there! Would definitely recommend!

Super magical & unique tree house based on sacred geometry located on an active organic farm. It's truly in the trees, not on stilts. It's composed of 4 rustic open air structures: the Awarenest - a separate epic 360 view deck 9m (30ft) high, the Bedroom Pod - with hanging bed, desk, northern view of the mountains and half bath with suspended bridge to full Kitchen Pod both at 4.5m (15ft) high and lastly a separate bathroom/shower pod at 3m (12ft). Basically a jungle farm wildlife adventure.
The main initial structure, the bedroom is actually suspended by cables between 5 strong Melina trees. The sacred geometry shape is an Icosahedron, one of the 5 platonic solids. It’s composed of 20 equilateral triangles that join at 12 vertices roughly making a spherical shape. The bedroom has a queen bed with canopy mosquito net, a built in desk, a small sink (with running water) and mirror and small porch. Just outside the bedroom is a half bathroom with flushing toilet. The kitchen, connected to the bedroom by a bridge has a full size sink, half size frig, toaster oven, 1 burner gas stove, plenty of counter space and built in couch/bench that can sleep a 3rd person, but it's narrow and not very comfortable for sleeping (which is why it's a 2 person listing). The bathroom in a separate tree, has flushing toilet and shower with 2 heads, one is cold only and one has hot and cold. Plenty of privacy but open air with a view. It has a ladder access. The view deck, called the Awarenest is about 30' up with quite an amazing view. It's accessible by a series of ladders, so not for the faint of heart. It's a great spot for yoga, meditation or just relaxing on top of the world. It's in the tallest, highest tree in the area. I say highest because it's also at the top of a little hill. It's truely one of a kind.
It’s 15 min drive to the Montezuma beach and about 25 min drive to Mal Pais and Santa Teresa Beaches. It’s nicely settled in the hills between them. Also about 15 minutes from Cobano, the largest town in the area for supplies, etc. Those times change based on road conditions. It’s not actually very far, but you wont’ be driving super fast. There’s a wonderful authentic Italian restaurant located close by, in the middle of no where. Their pizza is amazing and cooked in a wood fired home made earth oven, hence the restaurants name, Tierra Y Fuego (earth and fire). They are only open Thursday-Sunday and closed for most of Sept/Oct.
  • The treehouse was a fantastic place to stay, if you want somewhere truly different from the norm then this is it. The location for us was perfect, we didn't have a car so whilst it was a bit of a way out, we found a lovely Italian restaurant (a great recommendation from the welcome sheet) only a 10/15 minute walk away (take a torch the roads are dark at night out there) and Montezuma is only a 10 minute taxi ride away, so whilst there are options further afield we took back what we needed for dinner the 2nd night and just enjoyed cooking in the treetops with a great view perfect for spotting some of the wildlife.

    Matt2017-11-21T00:00:00Z
  • Love this place!!! We drove from Arenal to Punteras, where we took the car ferry across the Gulf of Nicoya to Paquera, then into Montezuma a little over an hour away. Met some great people on the ferry that were also going to Montezuma. We arrived just before dark (a little later than planned, but still enough light to get settled) and it was (URL HIDDEN) peaceful!! Awakened by the hungry goats on the farm, and also heard some monkeys, however, we did not see any until our hike on the beach. Their yell sounds like a lion's roar, but these little guys are so tiny!! Showering in the outside (but private) shower was invigorating!! The Geome Tree had all the amenities we needed, however, we were only able to stay a couple nights and we ate as much local food as we could. The sodas in town were great, good portions. Our only complaint was that the tree had nuts that fell onto the roof of the tree house. It was shocking at first, but once we figured out what it was, we tuned it out. Fortunately, bugs were not an issue, as long as you stayed beneath the netting and keep lights off as much as possible. We never once put on bug spray the entire time in CR!!! Our only venture day in town led us north on the beach. We walked for several hours through the paths that run along and parallel to the beach. We came across a very impressive cairn garden right on the beach. Very Zen and humbling to think of how many other souls helped create this. There are lots of small rivers that flow from the hills above and empty into the ocean. This is where you find the prettiest rocks!!! A couple miles up the beach, there is reportedly a waterfall, but it was not flowing too much when we were there, so wasn't much to see. Chico's was a great place to end our beach day and meet up with other travelers we met along the way. We had a rental car (4WD) but noticed that a lot of people just rented 4 wheelers from in town. The roads to the Geome Tree are pretty gnarly, but frankly a 4 wheeler would have been the way to go. (Hertz raped us at the counter....$750 for the week that was initially quoted as less than $200. That doesn't include the $1200 credit card hold deposit.) We suggest the ferry across from Puntenaras, take a bus to Montezuma and rent a 4 wheeler, if you can. All in all, Montezuma and the Geome Tree are the perfect combo for a relaxing, Bohemian-style stay. Just try to stay for more than just two nights....there was so much more to see that we missed out on, which made it really, really hard to leave. Enjoy!!! Pura Vida!!!!

    Sarah2017-05-10T00:00:00Z
  • The treehouse is an unique experience that everyone must try! My husband and I only stayed two nights but we enjoyed the quaint eco-farm where the treehouse is located as well as it's close proximity to Montezuma. Waking up to the amazing sunrises was a plus however make sure to pack bug spray since it is open to the jungle!

    Ashlyn2016-05-18T00:00:00Z
  • The most unique and unforgettable experience. The treehouse was easily located. We loved the structure of the treehouse and how it was built. Very impressive! Well equipped. Loved the hanging bed, sunsets and sunrises make it even more magical. There wasn't anyone to greet us but we are self sufficient travellers and everything was ready for our arrival. There were volunteers on the farm and they were helpful and inviting if there was anything you needed. Highly recommended for an unique experience. We really enjoyed our time.

    Melanie2016-03-24T00:00:00Z
  • Was so fun and a great experience!

  • This place is amazing!! Joseph was super fast at responding and very accommodating. The property manager Jon was so helpful, we got in late and were a little nervous about making it there but he made it super easy and was helpful the rest of the time. The treehouse itself is so amazing! Such a unique experience. Be ready to listen to all the sounds of the jungle at night, very interesting. We recommend renting ATVs once you're there. It's nice being able to drive to all the beaches around and not have to call a taxi every time. Overall no complaints and such an amazing experience!!

    Alyssa2016-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • This was a super neat experience. With it being the dry season we didn't have any problem with the bugs. Everyone on the ranch was super friendly and we felt very safe. The roads getting there aren't the best because there was a long stretch of bumpy gravel roads. Also it does not sleep more then two comfortably. But overall we were happy with our stay and would recommend staying here.

    Amanda2017-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed 2 nights in the tree house and loved every minute of it!! We got really concerned when we read the review about the beetles in the bed at 1am. We contacted Joseph and he immediately responded and told us that sometimes in CR there are waves of bugs and it is a very short period. He messaged us again after the first night to make sure everything was ok. We didn't have any problems with bugs in fact this place had less bugs than many of the other places we stayed in CR. The bed was comfortable, we cooked dinner one night and ate with the most beautiful view of the mountains. We felt super safe even though it was all open. We met Julio right when we got there and he showed us everything. We went to the volunteer house a few times to use the wi-fi and there were about 8 young ladies that were staying there and attending to the gardens. It is a very nice farm! I really felt safe knowing that they were all staying there and it wasn't just a bunch of men. You do need a vehicle if you are staying here. It is not an easy walk to Montezuma. We rented a dune buggy and had so much fun driving on all of the back roads. We ate at the Italian restaurant that is mentioned in the description and it was AMAZING! (Tierra y Fuego). We will definitely stay here again! It was our favorite place out of our 9 day trip!

This Villa is a full one-bedroom, with a lovely living room with two walls of glass with views of our tropical garden, and a kitchenette with double hot plate, small refrigerator and microwave. The bedroom has a double bed and has a wall of glass.
We are a small property of nine apartments nestled in a tropical garden overlooking the Central Valley of Costa Rica. Our property is secure, peaceful and tranquil, with hiking trails and isolated areas to hang out and sunbathe. When you are ready for more action the center of Escazu with restaurants and shopping is 15 minutes away and if you want to go into San Jose it’s only another 15 minutes or so. The best of both worlds! See more at www.villalemas.com
Our property is located in the most exclusive area of Escazu, which is the most exclusive neighborhood in Costa Rica. Our neighbors are well-known politicians, artists and business-people. While it may be the “Beverly Hills” of Costa Rica we enjoy a very peaceful and tranquil lifestyle with the advantage of being 20 minutes from the city. There are amazing hiking trails, waterfalls and natural pools above our property on Pico Blanco (one of the mountains that towers over Escazu). If you desire a relaxed vacation there are plenty of areas to relax on the property, but if you’re more adventurous there is a wide variety of activity just outside the gates of the property!
  • We had an amazing experience in this Villa. It had an amazing view every morning. We always felt safe with guards that were available 24hrs. We rented a car but for late night pub crawls we had a taxi. The best part of this place was the trusted taxi drivers they would call. It was such a pleasant experience.

  • My boyfriend and I stayed two nights at Villa Cortez Amarillo and the place was perfect. We put the address on our GPS but it took us to another location but I was so glad that Raymond had sent me more specific direction. If you would like recommendation on where to eat ask Raymond, the place he recommended for breakfast was delicious, I believed it was called Mocapan. The views from our Villa were stunning. We would definitely stay here again.

    Elba2016-12-13T00:00:00Z
  • This place is beautiful - the grounds are immaculate and lush, and the little apartment is exactly as it's shown in the photo. Our only problem was with the guards who weren't particularly helpful or friendly, so our "Welcome" wasn't that great. On the other hand, Raymond was very friendly and helpful, recommending a wonderful place for us to eat on our short stay. IF you live in the country and are used to sleeping in dark space, take a sleep mask. There are a lot of lights on the grounds - great for night time strolls, but not so good for sleeping. Even with all the drapes, there was a lot of light.

    Sheila2015-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • It's my second time there in a different Villa. Very peaceful and beautiful!

    Diana2017-06-10T00:00:00Z
  • Great place! The location is quite and the dogs are awesome. Cozy and sunny in the morning. A little chill at night. But at this price this is very nice ! Please note that the furniture is a little bit dated. But once settled who cares! Pure vida!

    Yan2017-05-08T00:00:00Z
  • Raymond was phenomenal. From the very beginning, he offered an incredible amount of resources to help us plan our trip. The listing is exactly as advertised, with lots of space and a wall of windows! Super sunny and cute roof and three friendly dogs that made it feel like home. Overall everyone at the property was very nice and made for a great vacation.

    Kevin2016-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Raymond's place is very peaceful and restful. It has a unique location and the scenery is breathtaking. The host is very helpful and nice, taking his time to offer valuable advice. I consider that choosing his place while visiting San Jose was a very good decision.

  • I decided to stay an extra day (see my previous review for that trip), and it was very easy to extend my stay through Ray. Story book property, incredibly safe, cozy - all around made everything easy in a foreign place. Thank you Ray, you're highly recommended.

Sharing the treetops with monkeys, birds & iguanas, this light, airy, 2nd floor apartment is just 50 meters from the beach, right in the heart of Sámara. Great nature views and sounds of the ocean throughout. Fully equipped kitchen, 2 bedrooms, WiFi.
Poised on a back road that ends at the beach and is shared by the local language school and other lodging units, this unique and spacious apartment (75m2) with its vaulted ceiling is shaded by mango, papaya, plantain, and cashew tres. Our fully furnished apartment has two bedrooms, one bath, and an open-plan living room and kitchen with a tiled breakfast bar, and WiFi. Netflix works perfectly in Costa Rica, we suggest bringing your account info to be able to connect on your devices when you wish. The master bedroom has a double bed while the second has two single beds sleeping a total of four comfortably, perfect for a family, two couples or traveling friends. Both rooms have bedside tables, lamps, closets and ceiling fans. Our unique furniture is handmade by local woodworkers using recycled tropical woods and driftwood. The kitchen has a convection toaster-oven, 4-burner stovetop, blender, electric water heater and Costa Rican coffee-drip, and seating for 5 at the breakfast bar. In the interest of full disclosure, as with any rentals in the heart of Sámara, the bar-restaurants can be noisy at night, and there is a bar-restaurant diagonally behind us that has live music on Wednesdays. The early morning roosters, dogs and howler monkeys present all over Sámara can also be a noise factor! To that end we have two loud floor fans that work great for drowning out outside noise, and recommend bringing earplugs. If you are sensitve to noise or a light sleeper, we recommend looking for a rental further out of town. We do not have AC at the apartment, so check average temperatures for your dates if you are not used to the tropical heat.
I love that we are so close to the beach, you don't even need to put your flipflops on, and that there is so much nature and wildlife around us. Also, being right near the language school is a plus, as guests can use the facilities and take part in activities like yoga and dance, and feel like they are part of a community if they want to. Also, absolutely everything is within very short walking distance (no more than a few blocks)!
  • I stayed at Laura's in Samara for a month and it was wonderful! So close to the beach, the space was perfect and just as described, and Laura was super nice and uber responsive when I had questions. I would love to stay at her place again and would definitely recommend!

    natalie2015-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • This location is spot on perfect! I'm thinking the 2nd story living really cut back on the amount of Costa Rica bugs we saw and the breeze at night along with the fans really helped make the inside sleeping temperature a little more pleasant. During the day though, that sun shines right on the bedrooms so best to be at the beach (and not nap). This screwed up our little nappers schedules but Pura Vida.

    Kim2015-12-03T00:00:00Z
  • Laura and her staff were really friendly and kind. Her apartment was great - and REALLY near the beach. Spacious and well equipped. You could hear the waves at night from the apartment. The beach was gorgeous! I had to laugh when I saw the outdoor circular staircase leading to the apartment when I first got there. It was a neat architectural feature, but I had a heavy piece of luggage. At least it wasn't raining. And the friendly staff carried it up for me anyway. I hate to say that nearby bars played music really loudly. One night, I was up until 2 am. But it's because of tourists (like me) that these bars are cropping up near the beach and blasting music. Laura explained that they aren't as bad during the low season. And when I used the floor fan as she suggested, it really helped drown out the noise. Laura also helped direct me to vegetarian and veggie-friendly restaurants. The tiny town has quite a few for its size. Overall, it was a really cute town with a very laid-back beach vibe.

    Allison2013-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • Everything about Laura's almost beachfront, light, airy apartment was absolutely stunning. She was excellent with communication from the beginning with setting up transportation and flexibility with dates. The apartment itself is beautiful and very clean. You are perched up top which almost makes it feel like you are staying in the treehouse. Neighbors are your daily roosters, iguanas and howler monkeys but as soon as you walk out of the apartment you are confronted with the most luscious island beach. Samara itself is such a beautiful secluded little city and the locals are so warm and welcoming. There is a local food store that we went to grab groceries and abundance of fresh fruit. There are also a ton of bars and restaurants to enjoy. The apartment's wifi made it possible to share photos with family and Laura was sweet enough to let us use her long board to surf on the beach. The noise at night during the weekends was never an issue, because we went down and joined them. This is definitely the place to be and I strongly reccomend a stay in Laura's place.

    kathy2014-05-16T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay in Samara was amazing! We didn't get to see Laura but Tyrone was extremely helpful and very nice. The apartment was just as pictures and perfect for our week there. It was just a short walk to the beach, restaurants, bars and the market. It was just right for our first trip to Costa Rica. Definitely looking forward to going again!

    Racquel2014-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • Laura's place was exactly as advertised. Close to the beautiful beach, the supermarket, and restaurants. There was everything we needed to be comfortable for our stay!

    Meredith2017-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • We are finally settled in at home and missing Samara already. I can not say enough about this town and the people who reside here. I did not have to pleasure of meeting Laura, but Virginia "Chili" and all the employees at the school were fantastic. Everyone is very friendly and more than happy to help you with anything you should need. The rental property is exactly as mentioned in Laura's post. We were a little skeptical of traveling during the rainy season, but it turned out perfect. The rain came and went throughout the day, but we planned around it. It also made the heat a little more tolerable. It rained through the night which was so relaxing and drowned out any noise. My fiance and I will definitely be back to visit Samara again in the future and have talked about potentially buying property in Samara and moving eventually. Pura Vida!

  • Laura and her family were welcoming. It was kind of her to help our family make arrangements to pick us up at the airport. When our son had a medical emergency, her husband helped provide us with options for medical care. The location of the apartment was fantastic. It was close to everything we needed and we didn't even need to rent a car. The noise from the bars nearby didn't bother us and I am a really light sleeper. We liked all the wildlife surrounding this apartment. The geckos made the cutest chirping sound at night, and the howler monkeys made the funniest grunting noises in the morning.

Feel the beat of San Jose! Industrial Style Studio in the heart of town, six minutes walk to museums, National Theater, and points of interest down town. You will also enjoy typical food restaurants and great coffee shops! The bus terminals are five to ten minute walk, just 25 to 35 minutes from the airport. My place is perfect for back packers, couples, friends traveling together or if you are more of a lonely traveler you will feel safe and comfortable. Self check in is available.
Small Industrial Style studio apartment perfect for a couple of days stay in San Jose or it can also be great if you plan a longer stay. It is in a six floor building that has been in the family for almost fifty years now, it used to be an office complex and for many years it was the home of the offices for a very prestigious international bank. After the bank Left, I decided to change the purpose of the building and remodel it for living purposes, Studio #404 is one of the twelve apartments that make up for the condominium. It is small, very cozy and it has everything you will need for a pleasent stay, it's fully equipped with all the amenities , kitchen, microwave, coffee maker, refrigerator, toaster, you will find all you need to cook, there is even a screw cork in case you are in a mood for some wine. It has a full size bunk bed and a pull over couch, which can accommodate comfortably an adult or a small child. There is a dinning table which sits three very comfortably. It has access to internet and digital television with a 24 " TV, you can count with hot water and a very nice and comfortable shower with body gel and shampoo. The apartment is Located on the fourth floor, on the Street side of the building, and there is an elevator.
The place is located close to down town hotels, parks and museums, it is in the heart of San Jose Down town. Although San José has a population of less than three hundred thousand it is a hop all provinces and more than one million people come and go everyday, in consequence it is a very busy and crowded city during the day and lonely at night. The studio is in the fourth floor of the building to the side of the street, it can get noisy in certain hours of the day, but it is quiet at night. Like any city that you are getting to know you should never be over confident.
  • Marie's flat is a great place to stay in a very good part of the city. The place is exactly as described in the photos - clean and modern throughout and with a very comfortable bed! Marie and Juan José were extremely welcoming and attentive and I would thoroughly recommend this flat to anyone!

  • This location was very clean and as listed. We felt very secure and welcomed and our host answered all questions that we had. Finding the location was a tad bit difficult and we regret not taking our hosts advice by having one of her contacts pick us up from the airport to bring us to her apartment. Over all a 10 out of 10. Thank you!!

    Heather2016-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • This was a great and easy place to stay! Marie was incredible in helping us get from the airport and offering options to see. Would absolutely stay here again!

  • Our stay here was great! Marie was more than accommodating when we had to change our schedule last minute. Her response time was fabulous, and is available if you have any questions. The place is very clean, and modern, and located in a very convenient place in San Jose. Overall had an amazing experience!

  • The place is a little tricky to find but Marie did a good job describing exactly how to get there. We had to pay for parking about a block away. The place was very nice and secure however the city is not a place I would ever care to go back to.

    Matt2017-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment was beautiful and it looked exactly like the photos (if not slightly better). Marie was always very helpful and responsive and made sure we were comfortable during the entirety of our stay. The location of the apartment is very central and convenient for experiencing downtown San José. There's a ton of stuff to do within just a few blocks. We would definitely stay here again!

  • The place was nice. When we entered the place there was a cat inside, random. It was difficult to have guests as there is a limit and the guard wasn't very understanding of our situation (half of our visitors were leaving shortly for the airport and needed somewhere to wait) Amnon was super friendly and we spoke on the phone to discuss my situation. He was fine with it. The apartment itself was super cute with a beautiful pool and common area!

  • Hi Ami. Thank you so much for making your place available during our trip. We had a great stay. Your place was very comfy and in a great location. Very close to downtown. Also, thank you for the document you sent ahead of time with additional info, places to visit and places to eat- we found it helpful. Hope to see you again very soon. We loved Jaco. +Eli&Joe

  • This is the perfect spot for your time in Jaco! Set just outside the main beach, this little gem is tucked away in a gated oasis. The pool was fabulous. It was so nice to have such a spacious area for four adults after sharing one hotel room for the week prior. I highly recommend staying here! Not to mention having access to a fridge, washer/dryer, and wifi. Do yourself a favor and just book this spot!

  • the house is amazing! such a stunning view and beautifully decorated. we felt at home instantly and had a wonderful time at tanya's place. perfect when you are looking for a remote place and close to town at the same time. highly recommended!

  • Fabulous home! Loved the private setting, the soaring ceilings, gorgeous wrap around deck with great furniture. Loved watching hummingbirds off the deck. Great place!!

    Jackie2015-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful home! Can't beat the views and location. Don't fill the hummingbird feeder unless you love bees.

  • Such an incredible place - beautiful sunsets, beautiful architecture and beautiful bird sounds all night!

    Tiffany2014-11-06T00:00:00Z
  • This place is wonderful! It is surrounded by the forest and unbelievably peaceful. There are even trails to walk to the river or a loop thru the woods. We saw lots of birds on our walks. We even saw a couple Tinamou on the trails near the house. This is the prefect place to disconnect. If you need Internet wifi you can go down the road to The Belmar hotel. Loved our stay.

    Chip2015-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • Tanya's home is beautiful and welcoming with a view of the forest, birds and sunset. The house is close to the parks and hikes in the Monteverde region. We had a great time! Thank you!

    Laurie2015-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Tanya's home is beautiful and very private. The home has beautiful wood with lots of glass and a wrap around porch with views of nothing but the Costa Rican forest. We were there 6 nights and never met Tanya (she was in Canada) or her housekeepers although they were available by phone if we needed them. The housekeepers' son met us at Hotel Belmar and we followed him to the house. Completely surrounded by the forest, you walk about 50 meters through the woods from your car to the house. Constant hummingbird activity. Howler monkey sounds in the background but never saw them. Made use of Tanya's reading books and her notebooks containing restaurant and tour recommendations. The availability of the washer was helpful. Hotel Belmar is a five minute walk up a dirt/gravel road which is a great place for food, drinks and the view. The Hotel Belmar staff was extremely helpful booking tours and answering questions. Would not hesitate to stay there again if traveling to Monteverde.

    Jim2016-04-15T00:00:00Z
  • The Cloud Forest Sanctuary was just that - a lovely sanctuary during our stay in Monteverde. The home was perfectly located and convenient to all the reserves and places we wanted to visit. The architecture of the home was beautiful and made you feel like you were part of the forest. Sitting on the deck and watching the hummingbirds and other birds was so nice. Tanya was always helpful and responsive when we had any questions. We would come back.

Enjoy waking up to the sound of ocean waves & macaws with a private pool overlooking the ocean. Our front fence gate opens to the beach. Sand & waves are at your footsteps. Walk right to the laid back beach front restaurants, bars and surf shops or head left to the desolate beaches of the Playa Hermosa - Punta Mala Wildlife National Refuge. Surf heaven!
This beachfront private beach home lies right in front of the Pacific Ocean in a corner property next to the main highway. It consists of two homes, one for your exclusive use. Your 2-story rustic wood getaway has 5 bedrooms & 3 bathrooms. Upstairs it features a lounge area with a hammock & rocking chairs, a bathroom, 2 bedrooms with queen beds, each to accomodate 2 guests plus a bedroom with 3 single beds. Downstairs is a kitchen, a living/eating area facing the pool & ocean, a common bathroom, a room with a private bathroom & queen bed plus another bedroom with 2 single beds. The house is ideal for 3 couples & 5 individuals or groups ranging from 8 to 11 people. Saturday afternoons surfers & surf fans fight for parking to witness world-class surfing at the weekly surf competitions, viewed from the privacy of your beach home. The property is located at the end of the town & the beginning of a natural reserve that preserves sea turtle nestling. It abuts the main highway known as La Costanera to the east, the Backyard hotel to the north, the Pacific Ocean to the west & an open cattle field to the south. Small restaurants, surf & a few small shops are located within walking distance. Due to the town's proximity to virgin rainforest, you will likely see Scarlet macaws on a daily basis. Iguanas roam freely all over the property. Our country is notorious for bad roads & bad signage. For most flexibility, we recommend you hire a 4x4 with low mileage and either bring or rent a GPS. Waze is very handy! If you plan to party at night in Jaco, taxis can easily be hired for pick up and will be available in town for drop off. Always be careful with your belongings, as it is the case with all of Latin America. Bring your own surfboard, rent or take surf lessons in town but be mindful of the extremely strong ocean currents. A yoga center is less than 1 km away. Local tours include bungee jumping in Jaco, sport fishing in Los Suenos Golf Resort & Marina, horseback riding through jungle trails or along the beach, hikes to waterfalls, kayaking, biking, ATV rides, canopy ziplining & whitewater rafting. On site massages can be arranged too. Other day trips include Tortuga Island, Carara National Park & Manuel Antonio National Park visits. The property ia located 1.5 hrs away from San Jose & 5 min from the bustling tiwb of Jaci, where you wilk dknd ATMs, nightlife, restaurants, supermarkets, souvenir skhops & all sorts of retail. Please note there is no air conditioning or hot water.

  • The place was perfect for us! Looks better in person than in the pictures. Host was very welcoming and answered all of our questions. Playa Hermosa is a fun little surf town...5 min drive/cab ride to Jaco and near many other beaches and national parks. My family and friends all had a great time! PURA VIDA!

  • We loved out stay in Playa Hermosa. The pool was a great perk- the kids loved it. It was wonderful to fall asleep to the sound of the waves at night. The host, Caterina, was very helpful and made us feel at home. Thanks for a great trip.

  • This location is awesome. A bit noisey but a great value. Very beautiful grounds. Great beach. I would stay here again.

  • Very welcoming host The place is On the beach really nice location Safe neighborhood

    Alex2015-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • We were welcomed by Yolanda, Catarina's mom. She gave us a quick tour and some fresh fruit as well as introduced us to the man who takes care of the grounds and was then on her way. The property is absolutely beautiful and very well taken care of. The pool is beautiful and a great way to cool off any time of the day. The beach is spectacular: clean and beautiful, the closest thing to paradise we've ever seen. We were warned prior to our trip as well as by Yolanda when we arrived that the waves can be a bit rough. We swam in the ocean every day with our kids (12, 12, 11 and 9) and we were all fine but we did stay right with them and were careful not to go out farther to where we could touch with our heads above the water. Although we didn't have the pleasure of meeting Catarina in person, she was very prompt in responding to our texts and had a wealth of knowledge to share about restaurants and things to do. There are lots of options close by and you can do as much or as little as you wish. We did our grocery shopping at he Maxi Pali and also drove into a grocery store in Herradura where there was more of a selection of produce. Catarina told us about Pizza Bocha, a restaurant a few doors down, that had awesome pizza and we ate there twice. We did note that the road was at times a bit noisy in the bedrooms that line the back of the house when we were going to bed at night but it the noise stopped around 9:30 - 10:00 pm or so and was quiet through the night. The traffic from the road cannot be heard at all by the pool on the ocean side of the house. We had a terrific time and are looking to return next year. Catarina, Yolanda and Derby were all gracious hosts.

    Skye2016-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Catarina was great from the beginning, answering all questions in a timely manner. Only once did we have a communication issue, but that was quickly resolved as she had some technical issues with her computer. Upon a late arrival, Yolanda showed us around the home quickly. There was a bag of ice in the freezer as well as three bushels of bananas and a cantaloupe. For groceries visit the Maxi Pali just before Jaco, they had the best selection or everything. The property was as described, the only thing missing from the listing is that the house is totally open air, but to be honest when would you want to close the windows since there is no air conditioning at this property anyways. Not only were their ceiling fans in every room, but there were plenty of plug in fans as well. The noise from trucks driving by was definitely an issue, bring ear plugs. It was laughable at times how loud trucks are in Costa Rica. Petty theft was an issue, uncertain how or why someone would steal flip flops or a towel that were wet from a locked property but it did happen. I would recommend locking up EVERYTHING you own during the evening inside the home and you can line dry your towels quickly in the morning by Derbys (the groundskeepers) little house on the property. Grounds were well kept. Be sure to be clear on whether or not the owners are going to be using the property or not as I was under the impression we were going to have the place to ourselves and a few days after arrival the owners brother showed up with a couple of people. They were very nice and didn't seem to mind us listening to music or being on vacation and making a reasonable amount of noise until a reasonable hour. One of the owners guests even spoke a little English and let me use her local cell phone to make a call to book a reservation one night at The Green Room in Jaco, Highly recommended by the way. The WiFi was unreliable and probably worked 50% of the time, so if you need to be available for something like work or family plan on making sure your international calling is in order prior to travel. Pool was nice and clean daily. Chlorine level was just right in my opinion. Bring flip flops you can get wet, hard rocks surround pool and can cut/hurt feet. The garbage was taken out and the beds were made up after a couple of nights at no additional cost, which was unexpected and very nice. The neighborhood was nice, there are hotels and restaurants within a couple of minutes walking. A few small markets within walking distance as well, maybe not recommended during the evening, but never did we feel unsafe here. Derby and Yolanda did not speak any English. Would recommend this property! Thanking Catarina, Yolanda and Derby for everything.

  • Fantastic location, great views. Beach was perfect, not crowded, and pretty much our backyard. The 10 of us had a great time and would definitely recommend this to any group looking for a chill time in Costa Rica.

    Lucian2015-03-21T00:00:00Z
  • The house was just what me and my friends were looking for when we booked the trip. Its a beautiful house with a pool and the beach a 2 steps away. She is really friendly and hospitable, whatever we needed she made it a point to help us out. Its only a few minutes away from Jaco by cab ($5) but far enough where you dont have to deal with a lot of people and have your space. Would totally recommend it to anyone that is looking to travel to Costa Rica!!!!

Relaxed, Quiet and Peaceful. The casita is perfect for people who want to be at peace and in harmony with nature. It is very comfortable and cozy at the same time. It is a short drive to many beautiful beaches and a bustling town of Nosara.
Relaxed, Quiet and Peaceful Yogic Forest Casita The casita is perfect for people who really want to be at peace in the jungle but comfortable at the same time. The casita offers a fully equipped kitchen and internet. It has a queen size bed and a single bed. It has a dinning table, shelves and a closet to hang your clothes. The casita also has an outside deck, which is facing the jungle, and is perfect for relaxation and yoga practice. There is access to massage, yoga classes and other therapeutic sessions. You can take yoga classes twice a day at the nearby yoga retreat, which is a 10 minute walk away. There is horse back riding at the nearby beach which can be organized for you. If you would like to make a campfire, it is also a possibility. The land is really big, 20 acres property, with paths that you can explore. We have two adorable cats and two friendly dogs living on the property. The big communal yoga platform is available throughout the day. Please note that we have a dry season during the months of January - April, so that there is less vegetation in the whole area of Guanacaste. During the months of June - November it is a rainy season, so that the nature is more lush. Although it is in a secluded area, you can take a hike through the jungle to a beautiful beach that is a 30-40 minute walk. It's a 7 minute drive to the peaceful fishermen's beaches of San Juanillo. Stunning and powerful black sand beach is about 5 min drive away. The yoga and surf mecca Nosara is 30-40 minutes away by car. You can find a variety of restaurants, shops, bars, yoga and surfing classes in Nosara. The nearby village San Juanillo also offers a couple of very good restaurants that are catering to the tourists. Halfway between San Juanillo and Nosara there is the small village of Ostional which is perfect for turtle watching. House rules - please keep music down, no alcohol, no meat (vegetarian food only) preferably no tobacco on the land.
We are located a 7 minute drive away from a fishermen's village San Juanillo, which features some stunning beaches, as well as a couple of nice restaurants. • I'd like to start by saying that my review might only apply to a certain time frame where things may have been different than they usually are due to the host being away. The first issue we experienced was with the person who greeted us - the introduction was very brief and we were a little confused about some things (the wifi didn't reach the cabin but we didn't know that, etc.) - but the host himself was unbelievably kind and helpful through text. The person replacing him also communicated to us that she'd only been there for a week so she was still getting the hang of things - overall not a big deal. The next, more prevalent issue was the state of the cabin - we understand that it's in the woods and there are only screens between us and the wilderness, but it kind of seemed like I'd hadn't been swept/mopped in quite a while. Then came the bugs. I have to clarify that I am deathly afraid of large insects, so maybe choosing a place in the woods wasn't the best idea... That being said, I wasn't expecting so many of them. There were very big spiders, giant (finger sized) grasshoppers, a tree frog and some type of scorpion/spider hybrid things, too. My friend escorted the allotment of them outside, but when we came back a few hours later, there were just as many (if not more) back in there again. There was a net around the bed, but it had a bunch of rips and stains on it. The second night was extremely windy and we were pelted with pebbles that flew through the screen, and onto the bed itself (the bed screen kept being blown away from the bed). The power also went out. The toilet wouldn't flush at one point, either, and the shower only worked if you held up the little metal thing on the faucet the whole time. I'd like to think that the sum of these events only occurred due to a combination of bad luck and the actual host being away, but I don't know if that's the case. That being said, it's a lovely property with a ton of potential, especially considering how sweet/informative the host is In terms of the location, the surrounding beaches and small town of Guiones were very nice, that's where we spent most of our time. We also ate at La Luna which was recommended by our host and the food was amazing- would definitely recommend going. We were sad to have been disappointed, because we had been looking very forward to it.

  • Shlomo was extremely welcoming and helpful. We ended up coming in late and were lost on the dirt roads at night on the way into San Juanillo (I recommend messaging Shlomo for directions rather than trying to use GPS), and he rode out to find us so we could follow him back to the house. In the morning, he greeted us smiling and provided maps and suggestions about the surrounding area. The space itself is AMAZING! It is isolated from the rest of the roads and towns and you fall asleep listening to the sounds of the jungle. You can access various beaches and explore the tourist activities in San Juanillo, Nosara and Playa Ostional. I would recommend staying with Shlomo, and I hope to return sometime.

    Bozhie2016-05-20T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying at Shlomo's casita! It is so clean, bright, and airy. There are screens on the windows to keep out the mosquitos, and it is very private. He is a great host who built 3 casitas and a large open-air house & yoga studio on his land. The property is fantastic with tons of fruit trees and I'd love to return for a yoga retreat. He was very kind and shared breakfast with us - he is a great cook and makes a mean hummus. Thanks Shlomo! Pura vida :)

    Jessica2016-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • Shlomo and his property were amazing! Shlomo was incredibly kind and generous with us and the location of his property is very secluded with lots of great jungle sounds to wake up to in the morning. We were lucky enough to see a group of howler monkeys 20 ft from our casita! We hope to see him again soon!

    Alice2017-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • My father and I spent a week in Costa Rica and decided to take a few days to relax in nature. Shlomo's place did not disappoint. He was so welcoming and hospitable. Whenever we had questions or concerns, he was always available. On our first day there, he drew us a map of his favorite idyllic beaches and food spots (take his recommendations, trust me). He's truly crafted a remarkable retreat.

    Julianka2017-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • WOW, what a gorgeous and secluded casita in BEAUTIFUL San Juanillo. This was our favorite stop on our road trip down the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. Shlomo is a fantastic host who is extremely accommodating, welcoming, and warm. We came on Sunday and the grocery store was closed, so we was kind enough to share food with us so we'd be able to cook dinner. He also makes his own falafel and hummus that he sells in town, which is a must buy if you stay with him. Delicious!! His yoga retreat is in the middle of the woods and beautiful. So relaxing, and a great getaway. If you aren't into all that nature has to offer (bugs, animals, etc.), this might not be the place for you-- we had a tree frog in our toilet, as well as spiders and geckos that visited us-- All harmless critters. But, we LOVED it. Being in nature on Shlomo's property is truly special. His property is close to the town of San Juanillo, which is arguably the most beautiful sunset the Pacific Coast has to offer. • We spent three nights at the jungle casita and had a very special experience. The jungle environment, as well as the casita itself, makes you feel one with nature. We loved staying out on the back deck, swaying on the hammock in the breeze. As the sun set each evening, the jungle came to life and the roars of howler monkeys and songs of birds surrounded us. You can sit outside all night and watch the sky light up with the most amazing stars. The casita is very clean, comfortable and private. It was great to have the rustic feel without losing any modern-day conveniences. The location is close to many beautiful, sparsely populated beaches. Shlomo was an excellent host. He provided many recommendations as far as where to eat and explore. His appreciation for his guests as well as his environment is truly refreshing. We definitely felt welcome and were inspired by his respectfulness of nature.

  • Shlomo was an absolutely delightful host! He made sure that all of our needs were taken care of and provided many useful suggestions for our stay, (such as best beaches, restaurants and driving directions). His property is pristine and is located in a stunning part of the Nicoya Peninsula. The accommodations are modest, clean and private; we felt very comfortable at Shlomo's casita and will hopefully return soon. It was a joy to spend time with him and learn more about each other. Thank you for a very memorable vacation!

Walking distance to everything from beach to banks and night life. From the house you can see parrots, green iguana, howler monkeys, humming birds and more.
  • Casa Mambo is amazing. Being in Costa Rica in the off season meant there was more rain than usual. It was great having all the space casa Mambo has to offer on those rainy afternoons. We never met Marina, but her husband Alex met us to take us to the house. He was very nice and arranged a taxi for us since we were leaving very early Sunday morning. If you're planning a trip to Tamarindo you've got to stay at Casa Mambo.

    Ben2015-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent place to stay for a couple! Very close to the night life and beaches of Tamarindo, but still secluded if you want to get away! Definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a comfortable place to stay in Tamarindo. Outstanding Hosts and the Casa Mambo Surf House looks even better in person than the pictures.

  • Marina was a great host and the location of this place was a great value. I emailed Marina on the way letting her know we might have trouble with cellphone service and she made things really easy by meeting us outside. The place was really close to a grocery store and it was very easy to walk to the beach, restaurants and into town. Marina and her brother live in houses next door but this place felt very private. I loved laying in the hammock in the courtyard area in the mornings! One of the other comments mentioned that the place was dirty and there were ants. To us this felt like an authentic beach town experience. Keep in mind that the kitchen is outdoor but that is part of the fun! We were sad to see that the neighbors were cutting down a lot of the large trees so we didn't see any monkey's from the property but there are still quite a few trees surrounding the path to the house so hopefully they will return.

    Stephanie2017-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • Marina and Alex welcomed us warmly and met us nearby since the home is nicely "hidden" from the street. They graciously showed us around the home and were very available for questions or anything we needed. They went above and beyond to make me and my daughter comfortable. The home is beautiful and very unique; having A/C was a very nice bonus, especially for sleeping. Having a nicely furnished kitchen was extremely convenient, as was the proximity to the heart of Tamarindo. But the home's location makes it feel like you're further away, up in the trees!

    Lincoln2016-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • Casa Mambo was wonderful. It's just as beautiful as the pictures and we loved spending time there. The only thing we didn't expect was the fact that Tamarindo itself was much busier and louder than we had hoped. However, the house was a great escape from the people and we loved it. Alex was wonderful and helpful throughout the process. :)

    Cori2015-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I stayed at Casa Mumbo for our honeymoon, everything was absolutely perfect! So close to all the attractions and the beach. We had an amazing time, and it's a perfect place for a tropical and relaxing getaway! Highly recommend!

  • It was a great experience staying at Casa Mambo! It is perfectly situated. It is very close to restaurants and bars, and most importantly the beach!!! 5 minutes away from everything including groceries and the twice weekly farmers market. Although your very close to everything you still feel a little secluded! It is just as describe and has everything you need. We really enjoyed cooking in the outdoor kitchen and making use of the small bbq. Alex and Marina were available when we needed them (especially when we needed a replacement wine bottle opener, Marina saved the Sangria!) The outdoor bed and hammocks we will be dreaming about for some months now, but it was very easy to feel right at home! This is a special space and great way to enjoy Tamarindo! Pura Vida!

    Stewart2016-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Martina's place was fantastico! My wife and I were especially impressed by Marina's ability to help out if we had any questions (she lives next door). Location is quiet and peaceful, while also adjacent to downtown area. We loved that the monkeys had a sweet spot for the trees right above the house. We would watch them and let the time pass by! 5/5 stars for Marina's house, would definitely stay here again in the future.

This large, vaulted-ceilinged Villa is surrounded by glass on three sides and enjoys magnificent views of Cerro Pico Blanco, the nature reserve and the rainforest. It has a king bed and waking up is like being perched in the middle of the mountains.
See (email hidden)
  • Raymond's place was perfect for our quick visit to Escazu. Nice and clean, incredible view. Easy communication. We recommend it to other travelers...

    Walt & Katrine2015-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • Raymond was beyond helpful before and after arriving at the home. The view was absolutely spectacular and we spent most of our time on the balcony. When arriving the first day we ate lunch with Raymond which is where he informed us about local dining and precautions while visiting San Jose. He got back to any of my messages promptly. The fact there was a gate and a 24 hr security guard made the stay feel very safe. The 3 dogs are the property are very cute and Sasha actually hiked Pico Blanco with us. I would definitely recommend this stay to anyone and would 100% stay here again.

  • Raymond is an excellent, communicative host with a beautiful property, making our visit very smooth and sweet. Highly recommend!

  • Raymond's place is absolutely breathtaking!! The space was gorgeous, clean, had everything we needed but the view!! The view was incredible and it was so gorgeous especially to wake up to. The bathroom was very nice & the tub was really relaxing. Ending our crazy trip in luxury was exactly what we needed. GREAT value! Highly recommend. Raymond was also really great at answering my messages very promptly. He was a very gracious host and I hope to stay here again some day.

  • Beautiful place, scenic, convenient, close to shopping, serene. My most favorite place to stay. It's home for me!

Our Paradise Condo is One of Jaco Beach's Most affordable and Fashionable two-bedroom Condos that can accommodate up to five guests. it is one of the best situated two bedroom residences within the Condominio Paradiso Community.
This is one of the best-situated two-bedroom residences within the Condominio Paradiso community, as it is adjacent to a lovely garden and close to the two pools and whirlpool. Despite the proximity to the pools and whirlpool, the condo is quiet and relaxing. The condo is equipped with A/C, two flat screen TVs, Internet, full kitchen, and lovely furnishings. The Condominio Paradiso community is in a tremendous location, just one block to the beach and a few steps from fantastic restaurants and shops. It is a gated community that has 24/7 guard service. Located on the main road in Jacó, Calle Pas Diaz, but set back behind the front gate, Paradiso is a safe, secure, lovely, and very well-maintained community. The condo is equipped with A/C, two flat screen TVs, Internet, full kitchen with stainless steel appliances, and lovely furnishings throughout.
  • Amon was very kind, and he gave the instructions to guide us in the trip. Tha partment was nice and organized.

  • Great little condo in perfect location. Awesome host too. We stuck in a little but of a tough place. Found this gem and we contacted paid and were in the property within a few hours. Great service!

    Tom2015-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • Ami was an awesome host--upon making the booking, he immediately sent a packet of information with recommendations for Costa Rica. He responded to all my questions quickly and with detailed information. The neighborhood was beautiful and came with the extra security of being a gated community. The apartment itself was very clean, and it was awesome to have access to the pool. The large bed was very comfortable. Guests who like to sleep in late should sleep in the larger bedroom because there is a skylight over the bunk beds that is more suited for early risers.

    Margette2015-05-30T00:00:00Z
  • Great place great location and very reasonable prices this is a hands down recommendation

    Jeff2016-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay at Amnon's place in Jaco, the place was clean and was very nice. He was a great host and made our stay very comfortable and we meet him and he took the time to show us other places that made it even better. I recommend staying with him and we look forward in staying again at his place, he was a great guy.

    William2015-04-24T00:00:00Z
  • Amnon was very accommodating, allowing us to check in early! The place is a two bedroom, two bathroom place (one king, one queen bed). It was very European (small) but close to the beach (5 minutes to walk there). The guards were friendly and easy going. There are a few things that need fixing.

    Randy2016-05-14T00:00:00Z
  • Great place right in the middle of town. Close to everything, safe community. Highly recommended.

    Sam2017-04-25T00:00:00Z
  • The room was clean and had modern furnishing. It looked bigger on the photos though and the guards werent too friendly.. lots of rules to abide by, kept by the park owner. and when breaking one youll pay a 10 dollar fine. Not very pura vida.

Beautifully designed open air home just steps from the beach.
Casa Troya reflects the typical home design of the Osa Peninsula with its half-height walls and natural, local building materials. It has a fully equipped kitchen and bathroom downstairs and a loft partitioned into two bedrooms upstairs. The overall aesthetic of this home evokes a sense of movement as the lines of the structure resemble a wave, ship or an animal, depending on one's perspective. The house is situated just 50 meters from the beach offering views of the water and a nice ocean breeze. Casa Troya offers a comfortable and inspired place to spend your vacation. Internet is not available at the house, however, is available in a different structure on the property that is about a 2 minute walk from the house.
Cabo Matapalo, known by the locals as simply Matapalo, is a small community located 15 km south on a bumpy dirt road from the town of Puerto Jimenez. The area consists of a scattering of eco-lodges and rental homes with one local bar. There are no banks or grocery stores, so make sure to stock up in Puerto Jimenez before heading out. Over the years, Matapalo has become a surf destination. It borders a beach along the Pacific Ocean that routinely ushers in large swells. There are several areas to surf. The waves vary in difficulty, allowing for beginner to expert surfing opportunity. The abundant wildlife also makes this area popular among travelers. Four species of monkeys, scarlet macaws, toucans, sloths, agoutis, and coatimundis are just a small sample of the wildlife that one sees on a regular basis. The Audobon Society has named Cabo Matapalo one of the premiere bird watching venues in the world. Matapalo is where travelers go to be at one with nature and find ultimate relaxation. The pristine rainforests and rugged natural beauty of the Osa Peninsula make this region one of the most beautiful areas in Costa Rica. Declared one of the most biologically intense places on Earth by National Geographic Magazine, the Osa Peninsula has become the premier eco-tourism destination in the country. The Osa Peninsula is a secluded nature wonderland, playing home to many of the country’s rare and endangered animal and bird species, including squirrel monkeys, jaguars, and other forest cats. With a large chunk of the peninsula forming the Corcovado National Park, this area has the single largest expanse of lowland tropical rainforest in Central America and is one of the tallest rainforests in the world. The area hosts more than 375 bird species, a fourth of Costa Rica's tree species and more than (phone number hidden) vascular plant species, many of which are found nowhere else on earth. The rain forest is made up of 700 tree species — the greatest diversity of tree species in all of Central America.
  • Boca Sombrero was an oasis on the Osa Peninsula. The open air house was a very unique experience right on the beach. We really enjoyed falling asleep to the sound of the waves and waking up to the sound of the howler monkeys. Even better than the pictures! We also spent our first night in one of the tent cabinas and found it very comfortable as well. Monika was an exceptional hostess who arranged our adventure to Corcovado National Park and guided us to the local spots for food. Grace prepared delicious breakfasts every morning and made us a special dinner on Christmas. Yoga on the property was rejuvenating.

  • Great Location. That's how Paradise probably looks like.

    Beat2016-04-20T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and I absolutely fell in love with the Bamboo House, Boca Sombrero, and it's lovely staff. The beauty and tranquility of this place were way beyond what we had imagined. We were warmly greeted and shown, by Grace, to our (5 day, 4 night) home. We quickly settled in to the open air architecture which allowed the connection with nature we were in Costa Rica to enjoy; the ocean sounds, countless varieties of birds (including a band of macaws), lizards, crabs, bats, frogs, etc.. We soon met Monika, who was pleasant and extremely knowledgeable about the area. She gave us great direction on nearby places to visit, which we enthusiastically followed, to our extreme enjoyment. A nice walk up the Matapalo beach one day, followed by a hike up a nearby river to multiple waterfalls, the canopy, and abundant wildlife (3 types of monkeys, iguanas, huge butterflies) the next. Since our stay was during the high season we were able to enjoy the delicious cuisine provided by Lily, Luke, and staff. Aside from them being a delight to talk with, the food was delicious! I would also suggest a massage with Flor, she was amazing. We can't say enough about our stay at Boca Sombrero. We hope to visit again soon!

  • We had found paradise!!! The experience in that house was outstanding! The house was built at the end of a big beachfront property with 4 houses. It is made of bambou in an open concept and everything you need is there. Pot and pans were of the best quality. The on site manager Monica came to us everyday to make sure we were fine or needed anything. You get a cleanup if the house everyday if you want to. We had seen the 4 different monkeys around and you get wake up by the mawkaws in the morning. You sleep at night with the sounds of the breaking waves, i always felt secure even if the house was open. I totaly felt in love with this place, we extended our stay for 5 extra nights! I have found paradise and i will come back for sure!

    Myriam2015-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • By far our favourite stay in Costa Rica! A great base to explore Corcovado. The open bamboo house is even better then the pictures! Spacious, comfy and a joy to stay in, we loved having nature all around us. We've had a very warm welcome and hosts who help out with tours, activities and much more! Thank you!

    Sharon2016-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • It was heartbreaking to have to leave Casa Troja at Boca Sombrero. We had such a wonderful time here with our 2 children. The property is (with the current state of the road) about 45 min drive from Puerto Jimenez. You definitely need 4x4, travel further south also requires crossing rivers via fords. Monika the on site manager was a delight and helped us with absolutely everything. We can thoroughly recommend a boat trip to the wild life sanctuary towards Golfito - we had a very informative tour and got to see numbers of Dolphins on the way back. Casa Troya was designed by an artist and you do live in a work of art, open to the surroundings, so expect many uninvited visitors! Insect repellent is a must. Scarlet macaws and monkeys at breakfast, all sorts of other wildlife to be spotted from the terrace. The beach is beautiful but unfortunately not suitable for children due to the rocks. However, there is a great sandy beach just a couple of km up the road (Playa Tamales) where body boarding etc is possible. We can 100% recommend this wonderful place for an unforgettable holiday.

    Ian2016-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our stay in the beachfront house. It was wonderful to wake up to the sound of the waves and the beach, cook in the open air kitchen and even drink the coconut water from the coconuts we managed to get out of the trees surrounding the house. My favorite part was seeing loads of Macaws in the Almond trees. Having a wifi modem was much needed as there is no cell reception and was even fast enough to watch a movie once. There are several things I think guests should be aware of....particularly guests who aren't fond of bats. There are LOTS of bats, both flying around at night but the most bothersome part is that there are a lot roosting in the roof and you can hear them feet from your head when you're trying to sleep. I eventually got a little used to it, but I was freaked out at first. The only other thing is that you can't really swim in the water because of the rocks. Bats aside, Monika was super nice and accommodating and even had our bed moved to the middle of the room to help minimize the sound of the bats. Grace and Miguel (the caretakers) are also SO lovely and even had us over to the Casa Grande for a Tico dinner.

  • We booked the Osa Beachfront house for 3 nights. On the pictures it looks nice but you still don't know what to expect. Upon Arrival we tought we where at the wrong place. It is so beautiful!!! In one word Amazing. You need to get used to the freedom of the open house but wauwie. The first morning we woke up because a big group of macaws (ara parrots) where sitting in the tree in front of the house. They where easy to spot. The garden around the place is wonderful, full with animals and fruits. Monika is realy helpful and takes very good care of here guests. She tels a lot about the area and suggest excursions. We visit the corcovado parc witch was nice. But the waterfall hike close to the house is beautiful! It was certenly oure best place to stay in Costa Rica.

  • What an amazing spot ... Casa Sabura is the place to stay! My girlfriend and I stayed here during the last few days of our trip and loved it. The house is located off of a dirt road in the middle of the forest, and is about a one-mile (1.6km) walk to the beach. The outside of the house is perfectly landscaped, the pool is perfect, and the poolside lounge area was perfect for day or night-time relaxing. The interior of the house is beautifully appointed (candles, authentic mirrors, antiques) and comfortable all around -- Andre and Rita have great taste! Finally, do yourself a favor and book Andre's private chef service ... it was easily the best meal we had during our entire trip! We did the dinner service and it was a really great experience. His girlfriend, Rita, set the table while we took a nap, so we were met with a very tasteful presentation when we woke up. During the dinner preparation, we were able to chill, listen to music and chat with Andre over wine -- he's a really great guy. All in all, a wonderful time at a great house with a cool host. We highly recommend Casa Sabura and most definitely hope to return. Andre, I hope you get that record player we talked about! ;)

  • This is a very beautiful mountain house. Is the perfect place for relaxing close to one of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica. The house is fully equipped, very private and very safe. The owners are very polite and are there for help in any time you need. We are definitely looking forward to get back to Casa Sabura in our next vacation. Pura vida

  • I stayed two nights at this property and will say it is a very nice eco-friendly establishment that has great access to the beach of Playa Avellanas and to the lively area of Tamarindo less than a half hour away. We had some trouble finding the home initially, but Andre worked with us to locate it which I appreciated. No issues getting around after that. Nothing crazy or out of sorts to report in terms of severe bugs or anything. The beds are most definitely comfy. Big plus there. I liked the idea that Andre is also a chef! Although I wasn't able to use his culinary services due to the particular menu item I wanted not being available (lobster, which is partly because of my late request for it), I would recommend giving it a try, which I feel would add to the experience. I would most definitely stay again, next time with a group, since there are three bedrooms and only two people stayed (including myself) at the time of this reservstion. Thanks Andre and Rita!

  • We loved our stay at Casa Subura, the property is absolutely beautiful! It is located very close to Playa Avallenas, you literally just go down to the end of the road. We love this area of Costa Rica and have visited before, Andre and Rita have taken your stay to another level. The house is so warm and inviting, they have been sure to make you feel welcome with so many aspects. From a well stocked kitchen, books to read, toiletries in the bathroom. Our stay felt more like a hotel than any other Airbnb I have been too. The pool is perfect to dip in, with a great outdoor shower to wash off when you get back from the beach. I can't say enough how comfortable our stay was. Andre and Rita have literally put their heart and soul into every feature of this house, so many beautiful design features that are beautiful to the eye and all work so well. Andre was always easy to reach if we needed anything or had any questions. So glad we stayed here, it was a highlight of our visit to Costa Rica this time.

  • We had a great family vacation with great surfing for the kids. Fishing trip on a local boat out of Tamirindo was a highlight for the boys. Beaches are beautiful. Andre was very helpful and the house is exactly like the photos. Kid enjoyed the pool (great after a day on the beach)

    Tracy2017-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • We loved Casa Sabura! The house is comfortable and beautifully decorated. The kitchen has all the necessities for cooking. The pool is lovely. AC is soooo nice, since it was very hot and humid! We heard so many amazing animal sounds at night, with the house being tucked up on the edge of the jungle. There are 2 bedrooms inside the main part of the house (on the 2nd floor), and one bedroom downstairs that you need to go outside and down the outdoor staircase to access... just something to be aware of with young kids who might want to sleep near their parents. We had such a nice stay.

    eva2017-03-31T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Casa Sabura is the definition of what a vacation should be. Beach vacation staying in a house in the wilderness. Waking up to monkeys in the trees, massive iguanas in the yard (don’t worry - they’re vegetarian), and nothing but sounds of birds and nature. I loved staying there so much, I really never wanted to leave. I stayed at Casa Sabura with two friends – three girls, all 30 years old. The house was big enough to comfortably fit 6. To get to Casa Sabura, it’s about an hour from Liberia airport. We didn’t rent a car and didn’t feel like we needed one. We used a bus in the parking lot of Lola’s to get into Tamarindo when we wanted to go into the city. The staff at Lola’s helped us get a cab as well. We were VERY happy to be staying at Avellanas over Tamarindo. It felt like an authentic experience. Tamarindo was way too touristy with too many people. This all depends on the type of vacation you’re looking for. Playa Avellanas beach is fantastic, and as everyone has said, a 10-15 minute walk from the house. The first day we thought the walk was long but in the next few days after acclimating to the pura vida/Costa Rica lifestyle, we wound up really enjoying the walk from the house to the beach. It’s peaceful and a mini-adventure. The house didn’t have beach towels or chairs, but you don’t really need them. Lola’s is located directly at the entrance to the beach – which was great for us in finding cabs, using restrooms, lunch, drinks, etc. The food was delicious and all of their drinks are made with fresh fruit – do it. They close early though, right around sunset so plan accordingly. A fruit truck came to the Lola’s parking lot every morning. Beachbox burritos were godly - right next door to Lola’s. The combination of Playa Avellanas beach, Lola’s, Beachbox, and Casa Sabura is what I would expect heaven to be like. The sunsets at the beach are other-worldly. We made it a point to stay at the beach every day until the sunset. The house isn’t very close to a market but that didn't matter. We stopped at a supermercado on the way from the airport to the house, near Tamarindo, where we stocked up on food for our stay. The kitchen had pots/pans/plates/wine glasses, with fridge/freezer/stove no dishwasher and no washer/dryer likely because water during the dry season is limited. We used the AC at night. Andre and Rita were great hosts and helped us out through the trip. I would love to stay at Casa Sabura again.

This beautiful, authentic jungle home is nestled in lush rain forest, where you can relax in a hammock on the porch, listening to parrots and howler monkeys. The beach is a short walk away, where sand and surf await.
Casa Musica is a beautiful house on a quaint rain forest road. Just a five min. walk to Cocles beach, supermarket, restaurants, bus stop, and shopping. Cocles is a tiny town between Puerto Viejo and Punta Uva. Both of those towns are just a 15 min. bike ride away. The house has two bedrooms, an open concept kitchen and living room, and a large porch with dining table and lounge area . The wood in the house is cut from the property. The bathroom is tiled, with custom made mosaic tub. Detailed and unique accents throughout the house. Monkeys, toucans, parrots, sloths, and other creatures often play in the yard. Butterflies love our front garden and are lovely to watch while sitting on the porch. There is a driveway that fits one vehicle. We have wireless internet. A cell phone is available with a security deposit. The area is safe, but house includes a security box just in case. House is fully equipped with new appliances, hot water in the shower, and fans in the bedrooms. Waterfalls, beaches, zip lining, hiking trails, kayaking, and animal rescue centers (where you can play with monkeys and sloths) are all available within a 20 minute drive of the house. Some of these attractions are only a five minute walk away! Also, please be aware that our listing is for a house, not a hotel. The house locks up completely, but we did design to be open-concept because we like to be integrated with the rain forest. Sometimes, ants come marching through, geckos like to chatter away with you while you're cooking in the kitchen, and hummingbirds sometimes try to join you at the table on the porch. We've recently learned that some people are afraid of these things, so we just want to make sure that you are rain forest friendly before you book.
Our little road (Calle Berto) is perhaps the most culturally integrated road in this part of the Caribbean. You'll see locals, expats, and tourists chatting jovially in the street, little kids waving as they pass by, and a few friendly local dogs trotting down the road.
  • We had a wonderful month long stay at the Custom Jungle House. As stated in other reviews Thomas, the property manager, was very responsive to any questions we had. The location worked well for us and is a great value for the money.

  • The hosts were great. They were extremely friendly and helped us in whatever we needed. The place looked just as the pictures showed. It was clean and all of the amenities worked well except for the hot water in the shower. The surrounding area is beautiful and we ended up extending our stay because of it. I definitely recommend checking this place out!

  • The place is in the perfect location! We were walking distance from the beach, bars, restaurants and the Jaguar Rescue! Super short cab ride or long walk to the best snorkeling location on the coast too. Definitely don't forget to pack a flashlight for your walk up the hill to the house though. The property manager Anna is the cutest human ever and very accommodating and helpful. We didn't realize til the second day that there was a switch on the shower head for warm water... never seen that before so if it's chilly don't make our mistake and look up. Also just expect to hear howler monkeys all night long but that's everywhere in Costa Rica.

  • We had a wonderful stay at Wilson and Jasmine's cabin. The house was exactly as described and it gave you the true Costa Rican jungle experience! It was about a 15-20 minute walk to several restaurants, the jaguar rescue, and the beach was right across the main road. Bike rentals were close by as well if you don't want to walk everywhere. All of the locals were incredibly friendly and helpful. Thomas, the property manager, was wonderful and was always available to answer our questions. I would highly recommend to others!

    Jamie2015-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • I had an awesome stay at Wilson and Jasmine's. The place is exactly as pictured/described and very comfortable. Thomas, the property manager was always available and very helpful. Highly recommended!

  • Wilson and Jasmine's jungle home was the ideal spot for our Costa Rican vacation. The ability to stay in the jungle but also be just a quick walk to the beach or a cheap cab ride into town allowed us to experience the best of both worlds. The property managers, Chad and Anna, were unbelievably helpful: readily available at all times and full of great recommendations! They made our trip truly memorable. 10/10 would recommend.

    Haley2017-06-12T00:00:00Z
  • Cute little house with a great deck and outdoor dining table. Enough dishes, pans and utensils to cook a quick meal. We had a rental car which made the 10 minute drive to Puerto Viejo quick and easy. Definitely recommend this place, but if you don't have a car bring a flashlight as it is a dark dirt road up to the cabin.

    Diane2017-05-24T00:00:00Z
  • Another trip to the Jungle house equals another very satisfied vacation. Much thanks to Jasmine Wilson and lovely Thomas for making this stay such a delight. xoxo Jazmin and Danny

  • Very relaxing and amazing. To wake up to howler monkeys was an experience that should be on everyone's bucket list. The apartment was clean and well laid out. The kitchen, while small functioned perfectly well. Out hosts were willing to driving us into town and pick us up as arranged daily. Overall very relaxing. Nice to be on the patio or to lay by the pool or in the shade casita and do do your e mails. An added bonus was their dogs that make you feel safe but which were so wonderful to play with. I would recommend this place for anyone who wants to chill out!!

  • BEAUTIFUL PROPERTY! Great house, perfect grounds, really fun BYO pool bar perfect for groups. They're in the process of building a new tree house with a roof deck. Take advantage of the communal wood fire grill also! We will be back for sure!

  • Awesome pool, guest house and breakfasts. Loved the seclusion but close to the beach and all the area attractions. We had a car so everything was 3-15min. away. Our girls (age 3 and 6) loved the pool. My wife and I loved the breakfast- best breakfast in Costa Rica, 5 stars. Thanks again, Dan

    Dan2014-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a fabulous time at our weekend on this beautiful property. Our kids had a blast in the pool while we floated around relaxing. The house was comfortable and clean. The owners were 100% accommodating and brought over homemade French donuts...yum!!

    Natalie2013-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • We were immediately greeted by a very friendly host. She took us through the place, which was a whole house, not an apartment! After the tour she inquired what our dinner plans were (was dinner time) and made a couple suggestions. She then got us a menu and ordered for us (our Spanish is terrible). And as this location is a few minutes out of town, she also picked up our dinner! Then she asked what our plans were while in Chahuita then helped with bus schedules and tour suggestions! The next morning she dropped us off in town at the bus station! We ended up one of our days being rained in, could not go out all day, and what an ideal location for an indoor day!! Can't say enough about how good our stay was here.

  • We arrived as this being our first trip to Costa Rica, greeted immediately and welcomed to our housing. The house was clean and easy access to surrounding beach towns. Would definitely recommend this spot and will return again one day.

  • The wonderful place of Laetitia and her family is a bit off the main road which is fantastic because you can fully enjoy the tropical sounds coming from the trees and plants on and around the property. Our house was clean, was fully equipped and pretty comfi. Laetitia was a great and communicative hosts with lots of tips and ideas for things to do. Additionally, it was a lot of fun to play with Attila, the watch dog. Would go there again for sure!

  • We really enjoyed staying at Rosalyn and Kin's apartment in Sabana. The location was excellent- very close to many great bars, restaurants and stores. The condo was beautifully decorated and the entire experience was extremely comfortable. I would definitely stay here again.

  • The apartment is very nice, and very comfortable. They were the most comfy beds we had on our two week trip! We got in to SJO quite late due to flight delays, but Rosalyn and Kindira made it quite easy to get the keys and get moved in. We liked it so much we are staying there again the last night of the trip! It is a very convenient quick trip to and from the airport.

    Caryn2015-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • The condo is in a great location in Sabana. It was perfect for us. The information in the guide book and directions for getting in and out were really helpful. Thanks Kindria!

  • The Pros: Overall The airbnb was in a great location. There were restaurants and museums and stores within walking distance. it was nicely decorated and comfortable. There were other Airbnbers in the area that we got to meet which was really cool and fun. Taxis were easily accessible right on the main street. It is conveniently located. The Cons: There wasnt hot water for us during our stay which was extremely challenging. It was not pleasant to take cold showers. We did have a few issues to resolve with the host with extra linen and it would have been nice to just get them on request versus having to go through the trouble of debating why we needed extra linen during a chillier rainy season just for them pass them over to us.

    Maria2017-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • Great space for a group of 4. We loved the apartment and it was nice to be outside the hustle and bustle of San Jose a little. A good variety of restaurants within walking distance. The Cuban B Del M was great with live music and delicious food/mojitos! The apartment was a little hard to find with our taxi from the airport but it worked out fine. Would recommend this spot! Thank you to Rosalyn & Barbara.

Just minutes to and from SJO airport (2.3 km), this cosy cabin with 3 bedrooms is perfect for families. Set in a garden with lovely mountain views, it is close to all amenities and public transport to surrounding towns. Excellent wifi. Currently we are not able to provide a served breakfast, but we do leave the fridge stocked with basics to make coffee and toast in the morning!
Stay with us on your first and last night in Costa Rica. Just 3 kms. from the airport, our guest house is the most comfortable alternative to big chain hotels and perfect for travelers who need a convenient location, close to the international airport, and to major towns in the Central Valley, such as San José, Santa Ana, Alejuela, Heredia, and Escazu. Although our guest house is in an urban setting, it has a rural feeling, surrounded by lush vegetation and with a great view of the mountains. Visitors enjoy HIGH SPEED WIRELESS INTERNET. Light housekeeping is provided for renters who stay more than 2 nights. Breakfast available upon request for an additional charge. Although we are on a main road, finding it may be challenging, since there are no road signs here in Costa Rica. The land marks you will be looking for are the La Ribera Cemetery (125 metres west of), the Mormon temple (200 metres west of), and the Montessori preschool across the road. If you have a smart phone, please download (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN), and send me your cell phone number. I will send the map link to your phone and you can open (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps or waze to get here. Please advise us the day prior to your arrival of your approximate arrival time. We will be waiting for you. And note that our doorbell is not working. We require a call or honk from the road!
The area of San Antonio de Belén and La Ribera are considered among the finest neighborhoods to live in in Costa Rica. Almost everything you´d want is close at hand, such as a variety of supermarkets, fresh fruit and veggie markets, restaurants, beauty salons, recreation centres, shopping and cinemas, artesania, churches and community centres. Our favorite local restaurants include La Riviera, Cangrejo Rojo Marisqueria, and Cerdo at the Commercial Centre La Ribera. All are just a 5 minute walk away and it is safe to walk in the evening. Visitors to Costa Rica may be surprised that it gets dark by 6 PM all year round! It is considered a safe area, so you don´t have to be overly concerned about security, although we recommend locking your doors, closing the gate securely behind you and being careful when you take money out of the ATM machine and not carrying a lot of cash on you. Because we are so close to the airport, there are many rent-a-car agencies close by. If you do decide to rent a vehicle, you can ask the agency to drop off and /or pick up your vehicle here at the guest house.
  • We had a wonderful time here. The house was perfect for us. The fresh fruit was delicious.

  • Set in a beautiful garden, this cozy place is comfortable and very convenient to the airport! Marie was extremely thorough in her hospitaility- made sure we were secure with taxi accommodations and even left us food for breakfast before our early morning flight. Very sweet. An extra note for travelers is that the place has no numbered address, so make sure you save/print the photo of the entrance. Also be prepared to call upon arrival. Marie will provide everything you need!

    lana2015-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • Marie's place is in a great location close to SJO airport (and minutes away from rental car locations). We stayed here our last night in Costa Rica and had a good experience. Accommodations are basic (no A/C, small bedrooms), but well-maintained. There was a decent amount of traffic noise, but, despite having our windows open all night, it did not bother us much. The house is in a pretty nice area. Shops and restaurants are within walking distance and we felt very safe in the house and walking around the neighborhood. This house is a great budget option, especially for families or small groups. Marie was very helpful, warm, and welcoming.

    Brandi2017-05-16T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Marie's after landing in San Jose and before departing for our final destination. It was perfect! She is so kind and welcoming, and the guest house was clean and spacious for myself, my husband and our daughter. It's a very short uber from the airport, and is located right in the city, however it is very private and beautiful. We will definitely be back on our next visit. Thank you for everything, Marie!

    Sarah2017-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • What a cute place! We were only able to stay one night, but I wish it was more. It was a really neat cabin and Marie was an excellent host. She helped us arrange transportation to the airport (4:00 am) and recommended a wonderful restaurant for dinner.

    Matt2017-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • This is the best place to stay on your first and last night in Costa Rica. The best decision I made about my trip was to rest after an exhausting flight and recharge before exploring the country. Marie is the best host. She really does genuinely care for her guests and it shows. My flight came in very early and not only did she pick me up from the airport, she allowed me to check in very early so I could sleep. She even picked up my friend, who arrived later in the evening, up from the airport as well. Visiting Costa Rica for the first time can be very intimidating given that there are no addresses and it's very difficult to get lost but Marie helped every step along the way. Marie is also a great cook and prepared some very tasty meals for us, including fresh homemade banana cake. There was an endless supply of coconut water, which is very refreshing in the hot temperatures. The cabin itself is just that...a cabin. It's a bit rustic but has everything you need. The beds were comfortable and the shower had plenty of hot water. The internet worked great and everything was just wonderful.

    Courtney2014-04-17T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed it. It was very close to the airport. It was really easy to find even at night. Fam is super cute and nice. Cleopatra (dog) is scary at first glance but is a teddy bear. Place is very cozy and perfect if in a quick airport rush. Very flexible in accommodating extra days/check in, check out times. Provided fresh eggs and other extras.

    Ralph2015-11-28T00:00:00Z
  • Super cute and wonderful. Marie is also very nice and accommodating. Make sure you have (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) on your phone if you're taking a taxi from the airport so you can communicate with Maria much easier to find the house. It's very quiet and super comfortable.

The Balinese-style villa called The Pavilion at the Manu Reserve is hidden among 30 acres of lush tropical Rain Forest in Hatillo, just 10 minutes from Dominical on Costa Rica's Central Pacific Coast.
The main Pavilion features a simplistic but elegant design and houses the kitchen the main living and dining area and a separate master bedroom under one iron wood shingled roof. Right next to it is a separate sleeping pavilion with its two symmetrical bedrooms and two bathrooms. The whole compound is rented always together and is furnished with woven rattan ceilings, cream colored coralina stone floors, louvered windows and carved Batavia furniture. Facilities & Services: Private infinity edge pool lava stone pool (chemical free) Unbelievable sunsets from the large iron wood sun deck Lounge Chairs and cushions Black volcanic stone bar with massive hardwood table with three bar Antique carved daybed with an ancient weaver table 3 seater rattan bench with two arm chairs Wireless high speed fiber internet connection with 6M/sec upload and download speed 25 inch Flat screen TV with SKY satellite system for many international news, sports and movie channels DVD player with CD/MP3 sound system Coral stone bathrooms with carved sandstone sinks and outdoor shower Three king size beds with orthopedic mattresses Two sets of Sheets and two large, medium and small towels for each bedroom Split system air condition in all 3 bed rooms Massive teak dining table for 10 persons Fully equipped kitchen 36 bottle built in wine cooler Full size stainless steel Fridge 36 inch gas cook top Dishwasher Toaster Industrial strength Blender coffee maker
The incredible balance of sand, sea and mountains makes Dominical a destination worth traveling to. It has clockwork sunsets with a fiery glaze, and dark volcanic sands that warm the ocean to balmy temperatures. Moments away from the beach are pools of fresh water and natural waterfalls that cascade down the mountainside. Dominical lays on the Southern Pacific Ocean and is bordered to the north by the Río Barú, a freshwater river that runs from the mountains into the ocean. creating a rushing current that you can find and track as you walk along the beach. To the east 3000-foot mountains create a cloud forest, and to the south dark volcanic ash creates coffee colored beaches and coves. Since the main part of the town of Dominical is set slightly back from the beach, it seems to magically disappear as you drift into the water, leaving only the tall beach palms and mangroves surrounded by fertile green hills to guide you along the coastline. The international surfing community has known Dominical Costa Rica for many years. It became a destination in the early seventies by a group of spirited and dedicated surfers, and because of its consistently good waves Dominical has steadily gained in popularity over the last 30 years. The town has become a haven for surfers, with local restaurants offering “Starving Surfer” specials and nonstop surf videos. The unusual conditions of the beach give the surf its size, dependability and the gentle run off and white water splash that also make it perfect for learning. The wave is a beach break with a twist that originates from the mouth of the Río Barú to the north. The river empties out of the mountains to the east and deposits sediments that form into a sand bar that spreads like a pair of sleepy rabbit ears north and south of the mouth. Only recently have people discovered and been attracted by its natural beauty. Not more than fifteen years ago the only buildings to be found were a few dilapidated fishing huts built by local fishermen. Since then the town has grown to over 700 permanent residents with a number of small beachfront restaurants, bars and cabins. Even with the emergence and growth of the town, it is possible to walk from one end of Dominical to the other in less than ten minutes. The area surrounding Dominical, especially to the south, is almost completely unpopulated. Because of this, the area is full of hundreds of different species of exotic animals including; three different types of toucans, giant green and red iguanas, all four types of native monkeys, parrots of all sizes and hues, three toed sloths and various small cats such as jaguarondis and montegordos. There are two national reserves (Hacienda Baru) in the immediate area, and three more only an additional hour and a half away (Manuel Antonio National Park, Corcovado National Park and Caño Island National Preserve) . To the south is the country’s underwater national park, Marino Ballena. Here it is possible to see a pristine underwater world with scores of multi-colorful marine creatures, coral reefs and jagged, ash black, volcanic rocks and tide pools. In a country full of beautiful views, lush landscapes, tropical attractions, and cloud forests, Dominical has the perfect balance between walking on soft sand or hiking along fresh water streams.
  • Bali Pavilion was such a pleasant place to be! We wish we could have been there longer but we will definitely be back! It was a perfect location for a getaway with the best views you could have! Truly a dream!

    Zoila2017-05-04T00:00:00Z
  • The house is a work of art finely designed in an authentic Bali style complete with beautifully landscaped grounds. It has the most stunning views of sunsets over the ocean from the back deck and swimming pool, I could have spent 4 days just watching the changing scenery and cloudscapes. The house is beautifully fitted-out with everything you could wish, and the free WiFi worked very well for the duration. The bedrooms were very comfortable, and the living space is ample.

    Ade2015-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at the Bali Pavilion was adventurous and enchanting. Alexander was very helpful and responsive prior to our trip. I called him to ask for additional directions when we arrived. We met up with Rodney who guided us to the house and showed us around. The house is exquisite! Looks just like the pictures. Everything was very neat and clean for our arrival. I highly recommend both the massage and the dinner cooked by Rodney and his beautiful wife. The spa was very affordable and peaceful and the dinner was delectable. The Pavilion during the day is magical. Although we didn't see any monkeys, we were able to enjoy the pool and relax in the sunshine. Just a few words of advice if you do decide to stay at the Pavilion: Be mindful that you are in the jungle so the Pavilion at night gets very dark. They have a flash light available, but I would bring a few extra. One obvious factor, that we weren't really prepared for was the amount of insects. If you're a nature person, this will be exciting for you. If you are not a nature person you might want to mentally prepare yourself to see every insect you could ever imagine. The jungle is also very noisy at night, so if you are a light sleeper I would use ear plugs. Next, as Alexander mentioned in his post (which I strongly recommend you read), it rains pretty much on schedule every evening around 4:30-5pm so I would try not to drive up or down the hill at that time. Lastly, everyone's comments about the hill are accurate, so mentally prepare yourself for this as well and rent the 4x4!! It's scary the first time, but we (a group of 4 young ladies) took our time (stopped about 20 times) and made it up. It gets better the more times you go up it. Overall it's definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity and the town of Dominical is very relaxing and beautiful. I highly recommend for couples.

    Tiffany2016-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • This is a breathtaking villa on top of a hill that looks like it could be somewhere in Bali. It had everything one needs with many thoughtful details. It is ideal for couples, groups and adult families. We stayed as a couple and enjoyed our complete privacy, the functionality of the space, the outdoor shower, large glass windows throughout the house, an amazing infinity pool that we loved just as much on rainy days as we did when it was sunny. We stayed for 6 days in October during the rainy season which meant it rained almost every day but we got sun every morning and waking up to that view was a one of a kind experience. Rodney is a great communicator and a good source of information about the area. National Parks, waterfalls, beaches, restaurants, markets with all kinds of tropical fruits I have never tried before - everything is just a car ride away. We returned to the villa every day before sunset to cook, watch movies and fall asleep to the sounds of the rainforest. I would recommend bringing a laptop or a tablet to stream movies in the evening. There was an abundance of TV channels but most of them were in Spanish, obviously, so my iPad was definitely nice to have. To make the last night of our stay memorable - we had Rodney make dinner for us. That way we didn't have to worry about getting groceries, cooking and cleaning up. So worth it! Make sure to tell him how you like your food done and how big you want your portions to be. For the two of us it was a lot and we couldn't finish our food the next day since we were checking out early. Very grateful for this special experience. Costa Rica is a magical place!

  • We had the most amazing experience at Alex's Bali Pavilion. The home was exquisite, luxurious, and inviting. Rodney, the caretaker, was an amazing host. He set us up with backdoor access to a Corcovado NP tour which was otherwise booked out. The infinity pool was an absolutely perfect way to relax at the end of the day, with the most exceptional view of the pacific sunset. The property was frequently visited by toucans, macaws, tree frogs, and even the beautiful poison arrow frogs. Unfortunately, we didn't see any monkeys visit the house, but we were assured that is rather uncommon. I'd say Alex's Bali Pavilion is one of a kind, except there are several other homes just like this on his property available for rent! Even a honeymoon villa, which we were kindly given a brief tour of by Rodney. Everything about our stay was amazing. We will most certainly be back. Thank you Alex for making our first stay in Costa Rica the most memorable. Pura Vida! Bryce.

  • The pictures do not do this place justice. It is amazing, the pool and the view are second to none. We were well taken care of. Lots of wildlife and early rising with the sun. I would suggest the option of dark blinds for those that want to sleep in

  • Absolutely loved it. Rodney was great, kind, helpful, accommodating! Very prompt in meeting us to show us the home! Beautiful sunsets, great infinity pool, spacious. Being among the rainforest: toucans, green parrots, monkeys, hummingbirds, and monkeys was an out of this world experience! We stayed here with our young family and it was absolutely perfect!

  • This was by far one of the most incredible places I've ever stayed. My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon and were blown away by this property. The architecture and views are stunning, the pictures really don't do it justice. We had an amazing time swimming in the pool watching the toucans fly in and out of the trees, truly a one of a kind experience. The drive up to the property is definitely very uphill and rocky, would certainly recommend 4 wheel drive. We however loved it and felt like we were driving through Jurassic Park everyday!! Highly recommend!
