[House Story] This house was inspired by a childhood dream of living in a Nordic home.It all started with my longing for a cosy cabin like the ones you see in stories, surrounded by the tranquillity of nature. After living in Sweden and New Zealand, I returned to Japan and, together with my husband Andy, took over a cottage that was due to be demolished just one month later. This is the private rental of an old house, [Kokoro]. This is a private house that is exclusively rented to one group per day, where you can feel close to the rich nature of Shiga Prefecture and enjoy rural life. It is a calm, old-fashioned space that can accommodate up to 10 guests. Please relax and enjoy your stay with family and friends. It is about an hour by car from the city of Kyoto, and if you are coming by train, it is about 20 minutes by bus from Adogawa Station on the JR Kosai Line, or about 10 minutes by taxi. It is popular with overseas guests, families, and groups. We also rent out BBQ sets (equipment) for a fee, so please feel free to ask. There is free parking on the premises. Up to 3 standard cars can be parked. For large vehicles, it may be difficult to park 3, so please contact us in advance. If you consult with us in advance, we can also rent out space for a fee. We also offer free bike rentals. There are also plenty of outdoor facilities in the surrounding area, so please use it as a base for your activities. Haruya Guesthouse

Our guesthouse is in a beautiful mountain village, near to it are pristine forests with beech trees and an ancient mountain path that was used to carry sea products from Japan sea to Kyoto in old days. In front of the guesthouse runs a stream that is a source of Lake Biwa and its water is crystal clear ; in early summer nights many fireflies fly over the stream. In winter, we have a lot of snow ; sometimes it reaches 2 meters from the ground! On clear nights you can enjoy the sky full of stars.

To ensure you enjoy the stay to the fullest, I set check-in and check-out time to both 12:00 Noon. So you can stay up for 24 hours with one night booking. YAMANOTE HOUSE is accessible from major Kansai stations with 37min from Kyoto Sta. or 65min from Osaka Sta. If you come by car from Kyoto it takes less than 1 hour. The area aournd the house is once small castle town. The house is located next to the Shrine, Hiyoshi-Jinja, where the Omizo Festival is held on May 3 and 4 every year.
