Comfy detached rural cottage Devon -hot tub, views

JaneRating, 5 stars1 week ago
We had a lovely relaxing stay, the bedrooms were cosy, all rooms were clean and tidy, and Gill was a friendly and helpful host. The steps between different levels wouldn’t suit everyone, but sitting in the hot tub overlooking the fields listening to the birdsong was sublime!

Such a lovely stay at Lake Villa Cottages, Sarah has thought of everything that might be needed on a break away and nothing too much trouble. We appreciated the added touches and had the best big family Christmas time away!

Tranquil rural retreat.

We had a lovely stay at Kirsten’s place. It is a very nice lodge/cottage with plenty of space for four, although there was only the two of us. It’s conveniently located to explore north Devon. We really enjoyed cycling the Tarka Trail which is traffic free. Kirsten was very responsive and provided all the information required for our stay.

What a brilliant stay we had! Cosy caravan in a lovely secluded location with secure garden which was perfect for our doggie! Lovely and clean, perfect for what we needed. Lisa kept in touch with directions on how to get to them if needed and also provided a travel cot which was a super bonus for us not having to bring one with us! Would highly recommend and we would stay again! Thank you Lisa and Sam for a great stay!

Your guide to Woolacombe

All About Woolacombe

Located on the North Devon coast, Woolacombe is a nature haven and a popular destination boasting miles of uninterrupted sand and sea, where visitors come to surf, paddleboard, kitesurf, swim, and observe sea life. Woolacombe is steeped in history, with a museum devoted to shipwrecks and coastal village stories. The town is replete with breathtaking villa-style houses constructed during the Victorian and Edwardian eras and that now serve as holiday lets in Woolacombe.

Visitors come to the area to immerse themselves in the great outdoors, relax on golden sands, and take advantage of Woolacombe’s wide range of activities, including coastal walks, horse riding, and plenty of beach fun, including rockpool rambles.

You can also enjoy the region’s abundance of fresh seafood and farmers’ markets during annual foodie events, including the yearly Devon Street Food Festival in nearby Ilfracombe. Explore popular eateries year round and get a real taste for local delicacies, including fresh seafood, award-winning cheeses, and ales and ciders.

The best time to stay in a holiday rental in Woolacombe

You’ll always discover something to do in Woolacombe, but summer is an excellent time to visit the area if you want bright blue skies and balmy beach days. Temperatures are at their coolest between November and February, so you may want to bring along your hats and gloves. It’s also an excellent time to explore local hiking trails and admire the spectacular coastal scenery without having to dodge the heat of the midday sun. Woolacombe in spring is a delight, with pleasant temperatures and fewer visitors than in the warmer months. If you’re a budding surfer, then you may want to get your hands on an apartment in Woolacombe from May to June, when waves are at their height and temperatures are a little less chilly than in spring.

Top things to do in Woolacombe

Woolacombe Beach

Even if you aren’t a keen surfer or bodyboarder, a trip to Woolacombe’s main beach is something to experience. Stretching from Croyde to Ilfracombe, its three miles of golden sand make it one of the best beaches in the UK. Throughout the summer, lifeguards are on hand to ensure safe swimming, and other facilities, including beach hut rentals, are available.

Morte Point Trail

If you want to dive into nature, then the Morte Point Trail, which leaves from nearby Mortehoe Village, makes for a great half-day activity. As you ramble through the rare coastal heathland covered in wildflowers, you may just catch a glimpse of a dolphin or a seal in the waters below. In autumn, you’re likely to observe flocks of migrant seabirds passing by just offshore, a great time to bring binoculars.

Marwood Hill Garden

The North Devon Coast is home to a wide variety of wildflower species, and the Marwood Hill Garden is no exception. Just 20 minutes from Woolacombe, its 20 acres are home to three beautiful lakes and an impressive variety of plants, shrubs, and trees. The traditional tea rooms boast beautiful views of the gardens with homemade and locally sourced produce served up daily.
