Comfortable, luxury shepherds hut with hot tub

JaneRating, 5 stars1 month ago
We had the most wonderful couple of days staying at Honey Bee relaxing in the peace and quiet. The views are outstanding, the Shepherds hut is beautifully made, with gorgeous interior and very well equipped. It is an ideal location with great local pubs in the surrounding villages also Bridport and West bay only 10 minutes down the road. We really wished we could have stayed longer, we can’t wait to return as soon as time allows!

Ganders Cottage at Highway Farm, Bridport

MarkRating, 5 stars9 months ago
We had a lovely stay in Ganders Cottage, with two young children. The cottage was spotlessly clean, pleasant to stay in and we put the patio to good use by having breakfast there every day. We even spotted a pheasant from the garden. The kids enjoyed the cottage and it was very family friendly. We only regret not taking the time to explore the farm and walk the area. The cottage was ideally situated to explore the Jurassic Coast, and we had many lovely outings to the nearby beaches. Charlotte and Robin were great hosts, attentive yet unintrusive, kind and thoughtful. They gave us good tips before and during the stay.

Heated Pool, Hot Tub, Sauna, Games - Upton Bourn

NeilRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
This place covers all the bases for a great stay for a big family get together! Excellent communications, nice welcome and then all the things to keep three families from ages 3-16 entertained. Private pool great, Games Room great, Hot Tub was spot on and actually hot (unlike so many that aren't)! Sauna probably needs some renovation love. Bedrooms great, enough space. Devonshire Arms nice food, Halfway House nice beer and vibes. All the ingredients for a place to kick back and have some much needed family time. Highly recommend!

Great Coombe - panoramic views & lake

KatherineRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
We stayed as a family group of 6 adults and 3 kids over Easter. The location and view were beautiful as was the local area. We saw a woodpecker visiting the bird feeder several times which was a nice treat! Our trip was geared towards children’s activities and we had lots of choice of things to do in the local area within a 30-45 minute drive. The games room was a great bonus and provided hours of enjoyment for kids and adults alike. The house was very clean, tastefully decorated and well presented with a very well equipped kitchen. The downstairs living area was spacious and had ample seating so there was always somewhere to flop at the end of the day. Nicola was pro active and helpful and responded very quickly to any questions we had. Overall we had a lovely time at Great Coombe :-)

The Byre lovely traditional stone barn

TracyRating, 5 stars1 week ago
We stayed for three and a half weeks after a water leak left our home uninhabitable. Unfortunately the property was not available for the whole time we required alternative accommodation but we are returning in a weeks time for a further two weeks. The property is well equipped and extremely comfortable even for our extended stay. Lovely quite rural setting but close enough to the local town not to feel isolated. Tanya and Chris are very friendly and helpful but not intrusive as can be the case with some hosts that live on site.

Stourhead Charming Cottage in idyllic location

LizaRating, 5 stars4 days ago
We had a wonderful stay! My brother got married at the Temple of Apollo and the cottage was the perfect base for various members of my family over the weekend. We had everything we needed in the bedrooms and kitchen and felt right at home. The cottage is thoughtfully decorated and very well equipped, and of course, access to the beautiful Stourhead gardens is a fantastic bonus (even if wedding prep and clear up meant we didn't get to take full advantage :D!)

Your guide to Swanage

Introduction

The Isle of Purbeck, on which Swanage sits, is one of the gems of the Dorset coastline. It isn’t actually an island, but its relative inaccessibility — it used to be cut off by marshland — has preserved its sparkling countryside and white-sand beaches from too much modernity. The town, whose stunning pier was built in 1895, retains an air of Victorian civility. But much of Swanage’s appeal lies in what surrounds it, from the gently rolling Purbeck Hills to the fossil-rich shores of its coast. Cliff walks offer much to explore, like the iconic chalk stacks of Old Harry Rocks and the 320-acre Durlston Country Park. There are other ways to see the sights too. A heritage steam railway chugs inland through Purbeck’s delightful countryside and villages, while an absorbing ferry ride delivers you across Poole Harbor to Sandbanks, home to the most exclusive beachside property in the UK.

The best time to stay in a holiday rental in Swanage

The South Coast of England enjoys some of its sunniest weather, and Swanage beach in particular is well sheltered from the more blustery winds that tend to batter the clifftops. In summer, average temperature highs are around 68 degrees Fahrenheit; in the winter, the average low drops to 39 degrees. But it can be a very pleasant place to book a holiday cottage at any time of year, so long as you’ve come prepared with waterproof layers and something warm to shield you from the winds. The maritime climate means that the weather is unpredictable and rain is never far away, so remember to pack your umbrella.

Top things to do in Swanage

Corfe Castle

Standing imposingly atop a green hill, the ruins of Corfe Castle look down on the village below, even though it has been 400 years since their stone walls last saw combat. Built after the Norman Conquest, the fortress was besieged during the English Civil War, and today is a popular site for historical re-enactments. It’s only a 15-minute drive — or, even better, a short steam-train ride — from Swanage.

Studland Bay

With acres of sand dunes, wooded heath, and thriving wetlands, this nature reserve is a stunning mixture of wilderness, wildlife, and sandy beaches. There’s all sorts to look out for, from the World War II pillboxes to the UK’s most famous stretch of nude beach. The cliffs offer views of Old Harry Rocks and even the Isle of Wight, 20 miles offshore.

Durdle Door

Stretching into the waters of the English Channel like a rocky bridge to nowhere, Durdle Door is a spectacular sight. Located 20 miles along the coast from Swanage, the limestone archway is created by natural erosion, and can be accessed across the shingle beach at Lulworth Cove or from a cliff-top car park. Neighboring Lulworth Castle, an impressive Jacobean hunting lodge, is worth a look while you’re nearby.
