The Red Train Carriage

The Red Train Carriage is a special place to stay next to the train tracks of The Swanage Railway. We believe it was built in about 1858 for GER as a 2nd class passenger carriage. It was just a shell when we got it, with it's original walls, doors, ceiling and floor, but the seating had been removed. There was only a few clues about its history in some of the doors and windows. We have saved as much of the original carriage as possible whilst making it a comfortable place to stay for a week.

Only a 5 minute walk to the sandy beach, Victorian Pier, harbour and is ideally located to walk to the Purbeck Hills and stunning Jurassic Coast with so many great walks to explore. The Coach House is situated in a peaceful area of Swanage within a few minutes walk of the beach and a 10 minute walk to the town centre and the iconic steam train. A purpose built, fully equipped home from home, providing all you need for a relaxing holiday or short break. It’s a great base to explore Swanage and Purbeck and perfectly placed for cliff walks or leisurely days on the beach The bus stop at the bottom of the road (2 mins walk) connects you to Bournemouth and the surrounding area.

Beautiful rural retreat, outskirts of Swanage

Ideal for walkers, bird-watchers and nature lovers, this quiet bolt-hole is in the garden of one of the oldest houses in Swanage. The Purbeck stone building in the southern outskirts of the town is separate from the main house, has it's own entrance and off-road parking. A five minute walk brings you to the Durlston National Nature Reserve looking out over the Jurassic coast. Durlston Castle, the Lighthouse and the Southwest Coast Path are 15 minutes away on foot. All without crossing a road.

Enjoy panoramic views of the countryside from the windows, watch the sunrise from your double bed or cabin bunk bed. Heating and a wood-burner will keep you warm and snug, whilst the kitchen area provides plenty of space to cook up a delicious meal. There is a shower downstairs and a loo and basin upstairs.

Walk & explore the Isle of Purbeck: just 30 mins drive to Durdle Door & Lulworth Cove. Swanage town centre & beach are a 20 min (2km) walk from Deal Cottage.
